About
An eclipse has blocked out the sun and in the perpetual darkness monsters have risen from the shadows.
A small tribe of people have traveled to a ancient dungeon where legend tells of a permanent source of light.
You must make your way through the winding and crumbling ruins, your only weapon a torch. However, when your torch eventually burns out the shadow will take you. Before that happens you must find a way to help those who will come after you.
A Flame in the Dark is played 1 torch at a time. You must explore the dungeon and unlock ways and passages before your torch runs out, so the next torch bearer can get even deeper; and closer to their salvation.
The dungeon is dark and you only have a single torch to light your way. Explore, solve puzzles, and use your time wisely because time is always running out...

Fun little hidden gem. Not super short and not super long, took me around an hour and a half to beat, and I apparently completely missed some collectables and an optional room judging by the achievements. Very atmospheric, and the progress I gained was genuinely satisfying enough to keep me trying to get further and further and finish it in the one sitting. Some form of a hint system would have been nice for those times where you get really stuck or miss a key part of the puzzle - I missed that last lever in the
underground
area and kept trying to solve the final puzzle without the final shortcut for about 20 minutes until I did fifth search of the area to quintuple check I hadn't missed anything. The puzzle before that I couldn't figure out what you were supposed to do so instead I
purposefully killed my guys over and over again in the rising water to make a mound I could eventually clamber up to get enough height to jump onto the cube in that alcove and into the next area.
Now I want to gift my friends this game and see how long it takes for them to beat it.
Good Puzzle/Maze style game. Great concept with the torch being a player timer. Fun to get some of the later challenges figured out. Change of villagers as your playing and dying is a fun addition. Not a long game, but for this type of game and price point it is really good. I can see some replay ability to beat a score for a bit.
was short but was enjoyable. EDIT- Restoring light to the world is the easy part. Getting to the treasure room! now thats the real game.
Great puzzle game with a cool atmosphere!
Such a fun concept behind this game! You're trying to find your way through the dungeon but you only have so much time while your torch is still lit. One villager at a time, you solve puzzles and find shortcuts to make your next run easier. It's short and sweet, fun, and well-executed. It's got a good balance of challenge that doesn't frustrate too much and gives you that satisfying feeling when the solution clicks. Plays well with controller and on Steam Deck.
Great little puzzler. Good ambience and a simple, well executed mechanic. Can recommend for anyone looking for an enjoyable challenge for a few hours!
