A niche game that not many people know about. A different change of scenery, which I like
I'm a sucker for music driven games and somehow enjoy bullet hell shooters, so A City Sleeps is right up my alley. It's by far not perfect but I enjoyed playing it, and regularly come back to it once or twice a year. My only big complaint: It's way too hard for my taste/skills. ^^
I got A City Sleeps as part of a bundle; I probably wouldn't have otherwise. It's not really my thing, so some of my dislike is simply due to that. Still, as a representative of bullet hell it's not exactly selling itself. The art style is nice, the music pretty good but I found the game play ultimately tedious. With only three longish levels, the expectation is to replay them at successively harder difficulties to unlock more stuff. But I just didn't find this interesting enough to bother doing.
Good thiung it's short. Gameplay it's really standard bullet hell. The twist is that the attacks of both parts are synchonized to the beat of the music. And also you could use some spirits to help you battle the hell. One spirit heals, one attacks and other stops time. It looks like a comic. And the plot is revelealed whire reading the descriptions of the levels and the differend dificulties. The trut is that this game feels like a experimental version, unpolished and with only three levels with 5 different difficulties. It feels l ike one of those games they develop during the Game Jams: "Oh how about we make a bullet hell, but using music". And they made it quickly and all. Try to get it if you like electronic music, bullet hell or rythmic games. But buy it during a steam sale.
Twin-stick bullet-hell shooter with a unique style. I found the difficulty to be pretty brutal, and not worth the trouble needed to take in everything the game has to offer. If you're extremely into this sort of game, and pretty good at it, you might find something really unique. But only recommended for serious hard-core fans.
I got this game in a humble bundle so didn't pay full price. A side-scrolling shooter is the easiest way to sum up this game but it has a couple of unique twists. You have multiple power-ups but only one can be used at a time so in order to succeed in what i thought were some rather difficult levels you do have to be rather attuned to what's going on. Another feature that keeps this game in a state of uniquity is its soundtrack. The music ties in perfectly with the gameplay to produce an nice arty mix. All the art is very well done in-game and everything runs smoothly. Not much to say that goes against me recommending this game.
I dont know its bed game
The game looks great - the music is wonderful, and the aesthetic is near-perfect. But I can't get past the boss on the second level. As soon as it gets to the bit where he's basically filling the screen with bullets, and I need to dodge up+down in the middle of the screen to avoid the waves, I keep getting hit by the little bullets being fired across the middle of the screen. Also, having to CONSTANTLY hold down the right-stick while playing makes the game uncomfortable to play. (I can let go, but that stops my firing - and stops the music, which is part of what made the game enjoyable to play.) If you like bullet-hell games... No. If you're really good at playing bullet-hell games, then you'll probably love this. But as much as I want to enjoy this, I just can't. I die far too easily, recover health far too slowly, and casually develop carpal-tunnel syndrome in order to not be dead. I'm giving it a thumbs-up, because the game looks like it's gonna be amazing. A pity I won't get to see it. Edit: Apparently I'm dying on the second difficulty of the first level. Also, it seems there are only three levels... so I'm slightly *less* inclined towards thumbs-up, having learnt that. If you don't enjoy bullet-hell games, probably avoid this one.
I don't know for how long this game has been in my library. I was holding back playing it because I thought it wouldn't work with controller... but it's working without any problems. And I just noticed that this game is by Harmonix, my favorite game studio. This might take a stage to get used to but at the end of the first stage you will understand that this game is actually a very cool and unique combination of music based gameplay and shoot em up.
This is a shoot-em-up game made by the original Guitar Hero studio in which enemies spawn and bullets fire all in time to the background music. It has a very interesting concept that looks and feels as great as you'd expect. The visual style is very appealing and as you'd hope for in a music game, the OST is amazing. As someone who hasn't played bullet hell games, the difficulty felt a little challenging but fair. Really my only complaint is that there are only 3 levels, and so the game can be finished in about half an hour. There are multiple difficulties to work through and things to unlock, but I still wish there was more of this world to explore and more music to listen to. Regardless of this, I would recommend trying out what is there for yourself.
