3.5/5 404Sight isn’t a very fun game, it’s not very engaging at all. The only reason I’d play it is to boost your Steam account with perfect games. It does that well, but beyond that, there’s not much to enjoy.
A decent puzzle / parkour / platformer style game. Does it break down the door and change the industry? No. But the game is free, the achievements are easy, and it can be a decent time killer. Overall there is nothing inherently bad, but nothing mind-blowing. Kind of gave me "higher quality mobile app" vibes.
Played this a while back. I think I liked it.

The story is small but significant as a vehicle to support net neutrality. It serves by introducing people to the concepts of it and then attempts to show the player what it would look like if ISPs could slow you at will via parkour gameplay. Both story and gameplay are great.

TECHNICALS: Includes game stability, presence of accessibility options, how intuitive the controls are, etc. User interface should be fluid. You're getting a great experience at the price of free. My first play took about 3 hours to complete and I've come back over the years to replay it for the joy of it.
404Sight is a free-to-play action platformer developed and published by Retro Yeti Games that combines high-speed parkour-inspired movement with an unusual science-fiction concept centered around internet freedom. Rather than presenting its message through lengthy story sequences or direct political discussions, the game builds its core mechanics around the idea of unrestricted access to information. The result is a compact but creative experience that uses gameplay itself to communicate its themes while delivering an enjoyable blend of running, jumping, and environmental navigation. Set within a stylized digital world, players take control of a runner navigating a virtual environment filled with obstacles, alternate routes, and hidden pathways. The objective seems simple at first: move forward as quickly as possible while avoiding hazards. However, the game gradually introduces systems that make each level more strategic than a typical runner. Progress depends not only on reflexes but also on understanding the environment and discovering the most efficient routes through increasingly complex sections. The defining feature of 404Sight is its unique ping ability. This mechanic allows players to scan their surroundings and reveal information that would otherwise remain hidden. Certain routes can dramatically increase movement speed, while others slow the player down and make progress more difficult. Using the ping system effectively becomes essential because success often depends on identifying the best path before committing to it. This simple idea adds a layer of tactical decision-making that separates the game from many other parkour-focused platformers. What makes the mechanic particularly effective is how naturally it ties into the game's overall theme. The hidden pathways and throttled routes act as metaphors for internet accessibility, transforming a real-world issue into an interactive gameplay system. Instead of simply telling players about the concept, the game encourages them to experience it directly through the challenges presented in each level. This approach gives the project a distinctive identity and helps it stand out from countless other indie platformers. Movement is smooth and responsive, emphasizing momentum and continuous forward motion. Players are encouraged to chain jumps together, maintain speed, and react quickly to changing conditions. The sense of flow becomes one of the most satisfying aspects of the experience, especially when players successfully navigate difficult sequences without losing momentum. While the movement system is not as mechanically deep as those found in larger parkour-focused titles, it remains enjoyable and accessible throughout the game. The level design supports the core mechanics effectively. Each environment is built around encouraging exploration and experimentation. Hidden shortcuts, alternate pathways, and strategic opportunities reward players who take the time to observe their surroundings. Rather than simply racing toward a finish line, players are constantly evaluating risk and reward while searching for routes that maximize efficiency. This structure helps maintain engagement despite the game's relatively straightforward objectives. Visually, 404Sight embraces a futuristic digital aesthetic that fits its premise perfectly. Neon colors, geometric structures, and glowing environments create the impression of moving through a virtual network rather than a traditional physical location. The clean visual design also serves a practical purpose by ensuring that important gameplay elements remain easy to identify. The contrast between hidden pathways and normal terrain becomes immediately recognizable once revealed through the ping mechanic, making navigation intuitive even during fast-paced segments. The audio presentation complements the cyber-themed setting well. Electronic music accompanies the action and helps reinforce the feeling of speed and momentum. The soundtrack contributes significantly to the atmosphere, making successful runs feel energetic and exciting. Combined with the futuristic visuals, the music helps create a cohesive identity that remains memorable despite the game's relatively short duration. One of the most impressive aspects of 404Sight is how focused its design feels. Rather than attempting to include numerous unrelated mechanics, the game builds everything around a handful of interconnected ideas and executes them effectively. Every major feature contributes to the central concept, resulting in an experience that feels cohesive from beginning to end. This level of focus is particularly admirable for a free title developed by a small independent team. The game's brevity may disappoint players looking for a lengthy campaign. Its mechanics are engaging enough that many players will wish there were additional levels or expanded modes to explore. Once the core systems have been mastered, the content can be completed relatively quickly. The simplicity that makes the game accessible also limits its long-term replay value compared to larger platforming experiences. There are also moments where the gameplay feels somewhat constrained by its modest scope. While the movement mechanics work well, they never evolve into the level of complexity seen in more ambitious parkour games. Players seeking extensive customization, progression systems, or deep narrative elements may find the experience somewhat limited. However, these shortcomings are largely the result of the project's intentionally focused design rather than poor execution. Ultimately, 404Sight succeeds because it transforms an abstract concept into a fun and interactive experience. Its combination of speed-based platforming, route optimization, environmental awareness, and thematic storytelling creates a game that feels genuinely original. The creative use of the ping mechanic, strong visual identity, and enjoyable movement system make it a memorable indie release that accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do. Even years after its release, it remains an interesting example of how gameplay can be used to communicate ideas while still providing an entertaining challenge. Rating: 8/10
Veramente un bel gioco di parkour con delle belle musiche di accompagnamento. Per ovvi motivi lo stile mi ha ricordato Mirrors Edge. Congratulazioni per il fatto che sia stato sviluppato da dei ragazzi dell'università. Veramente complimenti. Lo consiglio assolutamente per passarci una mezzoretta.
