This Australian Indie studio is committed to converting the old Infocom text adventures to 3d first person adventures. 3D Text Adventure is the first of these to be developed. These infocom remakes are practically exactly the same as the originals.

I love the concept: a 3D, open world remake of Zork, a classic text adventure. Unfortunately, this game isn't a faithful recreation of Zork nor is it a quality game in it's own right. This appears to be heavily based on plopped down assets. Not necessarily a bad thing, but when you have lots of assets and seemingly no attempt at optimization, you end up with frame rates worse than a 3D title on the SNES. Dropping below 10 FPS was common, making the game play more like Myst than a proper 3D game. Delay in controls became worse over time, making it turn into quite the unplayable mess after 15 minutes. I see there's a 3D Text Adventure 2 in the works. I'd advise the developer to optimize this game and flesh out the world a bit more before releasing a sequel. This game is just too broken and unfinished to recommend.
please learn what occlusion culling and lods are and update the game to use them

It's free and there's a novelty in seeing Zork 1 recreated in a 3D engine. But it runs terribly, even on the lowest settings; It seems zero optimization was done. Also, once you leave the starting area (the iconic white house), the visuals degrade instantly and everything looks like it's from an early pre-alpha build; There's simplistic and flickering world geometry, flat and overstretched textures everywhere. What I saw underground looked like the result of bare-minimum effort. It *might* be fully playable (Not sure since I didn't get far), but it's so ugly that I'd rather just use my imagination.
Very excited when I saw this! But in its current state it is almost unplayable. The camera freezes in places then jumps ahead. It seems that you are unable to use items that are equipped, this could be user error at the moment. It had a lot of potential for Zork fans, I would not call it a exact remake, but hey it was a text adventure so each persons imagination is different. If they can fix the glitchy controls then it seems it will be a lot of fun! I am hoping for a fix to the controls so I did not waste 17 bucks. Please fix as I want to give this game a thumbs up! Happy to say the developer has fixed the controls! I was able to move around plus use my equipped item. I am not sure if the overall game is good yet as I have not put much time into it, but since the developer did make the fix I am changing my review to a thumbs up. I will continue to update the review as I progress in the game! Thanks for making the game playable.

The love hate Kinda hate
♥♥♥♥. What do I do about this? So how do I begin? First, there are some suspicious reviews for this game. However, cross-referencing the update notes, it appears that the suspicious comments do not in fact line up with the developer notes. So this is a good thing, why? Because it shows that the developer (although taking long gaps in between) is actually updating the game. If the suspicious comments are true, there is a way to log notes for the developer, which I'm going to try and do, because this game has potential and, I'm biased towards Zork. There are a few things missing, including the ability to type. Meaning, this game is not yet complete, but an update this year, shows us it may one day.
Differential summation
As follows are some improvements to bridge the gap of the game in it's first person viewpoint. Of which (if the suspicious comments are true) I will be sending to the developer in hopes that they are improved upon.

Due to the lack of direction being expounded upon, one of 2 things need to occur, either a chat-box needs to update us on description, because visual does not directly translate from text. Or we need to have a compass, whether it's a uniquely original item found in the mailbox, or a HUD update, I don't care, one or the other way.
There are a lot of object fixes that need to occur, as well as updating object sizes
The engine needs a processing update so that the game doesn't run at -20 fps.
I would also suggest either updating the Cyclops puzzle by giving the player character the name Odysseus in the first paper in the mailbox allowing the name of the character to be an item in the inventory, or to allow typing to speak,.
Finish the game you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ spaz, before promising to make the rest of the series.
If you update this more, I'll change the not recommended to a recommended.
