This is a fun VR game with a lot of content, and is best in class for the type of game-play it offers. If you're looking for an immersive, VR game based off of side-scrolling, bullet-hell type game-play, then this is the game for you.
The game is quite charming but it simply doesn't play well. The overall design is convoluted and tries too many things at once while doing all of them poorly. The good ideas are held back by bad execution and amateurish design choices, especially when it comes to a shmup. The constant attempt of introducing new mechanics to every boss is exhausting and the game gets interrupted way to frequently by an avalanche of gimmicks in every level to justify the use of the second hand with puzzles that often fail to work as intended. This game needed a lot more time in development and it's quite clear they skipped any playtesting and feedback.
PROS: Funny story with lots of movies references + Different perspectives + Bosses fight + Great musics, sound and explotions + A bunch of stages with different thematic + Interaction with the enviroment CONS: Sometimes it's a bit mess with all the shoots and ships, the scroll that doesn't stop and at the same time controling the sphere + The 2D side perspective is a bit close in some levels + The final boss is very dissaponiting Played on Oculus Quest 2 with Virtual Desktop
My favourite Ivanovich game yet. It's effectively a sci-fi side-scrolling (mostly) sequel to 1976, and evokes old school shooters like Gradius/Nemesis (complete with bolder spewing volcanoes). I wasn't a fan of the "immersive zone" first person sections in 1976, but the feeling of the controls have been improved this times around, and I enjoyed those sections way more. If you still don't like those parts, there's also an arcade mode that takes you through the same levels, but omits the cockpit sequences, though you still get some behind view sections (mainly for boss battles). Definitely give this a shot if you're a fan of retro shooters - there's also a free demo, so there's no reason not to!
Retro Gaming In A VR World 2076 Midway Multiverse is yet another hit from Ivanovich Games. They took another classic retro arcade game and made it into an amazing VR experience. This time its the classic side scrolling shooter game, like Super R-Type. With Ivanovich Games special VR immersions, making it a must play VR experience. 2076 Midway Multiverse continues where 1976 - Back to Midway leaves off. New story, new mode of play, new experience. Like their other games, this one does not disappoint. You will have those wow moments all over again. The story is good, the gameplay is spot on, and the VR world is mind blowing. Like 1976 - Back to Midway, the game offers multiple VR immersion modes, and the workshop to upgrade your ship. The side scrolling aspect of this game is just brilliant. You will have all the classic fun of the retro games, but feel like you are inside the arcade machine. The world and effects will take your breath away. With three different difficulty levels, you can play a nice relaxing game, or go for the hardcore retro gameplay. Which ever you pick, you are in for a blast from the past in some of the best VR gameplay I have played. If you are a fan of the retro side scrolling space shooters, looking for next level VR experiences, this game is a must play. There are plenty of levels, achievements, and upgrades to keep you playing over and over again. The action feels great, and the worlds will just blow you away. Looks really good on the reverb g2. Also REALLY appreciate that it actually does things unique to VR like using your other hand to move objects or collect coins.
The story is a ridiculous, extra-dimensional Nazis joke. Get past that, though, and you have a very satisfying VR shooter. I'm not usually big on side scrolling shooters or flight simulation shooters, but this one was nicely done and very playable. I also liked the VR graphics.
This would probably be really fun if it weren't for the dev's pathological and likely unhealthy obsession with Hitler. I'm not even kidding, he's basically the entire premise of the game's story. It is really, REALLY off-putting when all you're looking to do is shoot some spaceships in VR.
