Headache inducing
1000 deaths feels like you're a kid watching TV past your bedtime and finding a cartoon that maybe you shouldn't be watching. Despite the psychadelic visuals and levels, 1000 deaths feels strangely grounded with it's story and characters, The small cast finds themselves in situations that are both familliar and otherworldly, Deciding wether to move town with your friend, wether you reciprocate someone's feelings or wether you should close your superfood factory due to unintended side effects... The game's main gameplay focus is some harcore 3D platforming as TeeVee, a TV with legs that enters the mindspaces of our cast in order to help them make life decisions. Levels can range from quite easy to challenging, however, the real challenge starts when you go on arcade mode and try to get the best times on all levels. A playthrough of this game can be quite short (about 2 hours) if you want all endings that will be more like 4 hours, however, if you enjoy platforming challenges the arcade mode can keep you entertained for a lot longer. If you enjoy 3D puzzle platformers and game with strange and psychadelic artstyles I really reccomend 1000 Deaths, It's definitely a bargain for it's price!
Very weird game that has Psychonaut vibes. Wish it had voice acting. https://www.youtube.com/live/NCgZ0NOcdxc Steam Recommendations YouTube TikTok Twitch
The art style is so cool. Reminds me of Mario galaxy with the gravity game play. Overall great platformer with awesome design.
A visually striking indie platformer that makes a pretty strong first impression. There's something to be said for blending a branching narrative structure with platforming challenges taking place inside of the characters' heads. The surrealist art direction helps sell an off-kilter world while the platforming portion of the game does a good job of encouraging mastery and ramping up the challenge. It might take a few tries to get used to the movement tech and gravity-twisting aspects of the game, but with a game like 1000 Deaths you should probably expect a challenge. It's a weird game in the best possible way -- and that's something gaming always needs.
While the narrative doesn't push as far as I would have liked and it's rather short if you're not high on replaying levels. The concept is still unique with the non-linear stories 1000 Deaths has, combined with challenging levels and trippy presentation. 1000 Deaths is a delightful and creative indie title that blends vibes, decision-making, and platforming well. The availability of a main, story-driven mode and arcade mode was a smart choice, allowing the game to cater to both the casual player and the speed running sickos. There’s truly nothing like 1000 Deaths, and I give credit to such creative characters and world. Despite the games’ whacky nature, the decisions characters face in their Headspace are ones we face with often in real life. It is worth noting that the game is not for everyone (is any game really for everyone though?). The graphics and gravity-defying twist and turns, while unique and colorful, may give some with sensory sensitivity pause. Others may be turned off with some of the tougher challenges. Furthermore, some don’t go for arcade-style game play. But again, these are just caveats because the world is full of diverse gaming preferences! I recommend 1000 Deaths to anyone that seeks games with unique art styles, appreciate a good 3D platformer--but don’t mind a twist, and is patient enough to live through many lives to see the fruits of their labor. Because if you are, this game is very rewarding.
Funky graphics, overall fun gameplay with cool gravity effects. If you like platformers, check this one out
1000 Deaths is a weird game, and I say that with the most loving tone imaginable. It jumps from a 3D platformer to a decision-based narrative heavy game. It follows the “what if” dilemma where the character asks themself how their life would have been if they decided to leave with their best friend for Hollywood or if they stayed to improve their hometown. In fact, we get to play these outcomes. It’s all presented in super wonky surreal tones that span from uncanny to amazing. It doesn’t go very in depth with each scenario, but it’s interesting to play these “what-ifs” throughout 4 different characters and branching choices. Curious about more indie games?
