I'm playing Steam games in alphabetical order and you can watch my review here: https://youtu.be/0rRPJF431b8 Prefer to read? 100-Level Dungeon is an RPGMaker game about climbing a tower full of monsters with a generic party of heroes, with one literally called "hero". Even ignoring issues like the clunky dialogue (which could just be due to English not being their native language), the game suffers from a reliance on stock assets for art and music, poor programming and poor balancing. The premise is simple enough: a party of four heroes enter a tower and on each floor they fight monsters. In a rest area between floors you can sell monster parts for money and buy new items before attempting the next floor. Every tenth floor is a boss fight. The problem is that enemies health and damage scale too quickly, and the stat buffs that equipment provide are so low they barely make a difference - and that's if you can afford any after spending all your gold on recovery items to simply stay alive. Equipment doesn't always provide the buffs that are shown, skills and spells don't show their effects in the menu screens, and one class selection doesn't even work correctly. After 8 hours I could only make it to the 31st floor. If this game was playtested, it was done by a RPGMaker prodigy - or more likely by the devs themselves who knew the optimal party setup and didn't bother balancing for anything else.
As much as I'll give props to anybody who has created a full game this is probably one of the most imbalanced RPG's I've ever played. Finished with: Fighter, Archer, Magician, Magician + their upgraded forms at level 50. You'll select your classes at floor 10, but then won't really know if your team is viable till floor 31 due to overpowered enemies. Stunlock is the play of the game here, any class that can't stop an enemy from attacking is useless or needs extreme luck to be viable. The 30's were such a wall to beat, that everything after was a cakewalk. Level 80-100 is a boss gauntlet, but by this time you'll have so much money and healing items, it's basically like playing against the Elite Four in a Pokemon game. Equipment was also so pitiful, I still had a majority of Floor 10/20 armor when I finished.
I can't remember what floor I'm on(it is either in late 70's or early 80's of floor level due to the battle room being completely pink color), and after I win the Crimson Paladin battle, the rock doesn't disappear from the exit of that room, causing you to be stuck in the room with no way out. I can't find a way to get in touch with the developer of the game to inform him of this, and hope he will see this review of mine about his game and will respond back very soon. No other floor did I encounter this incident on. I was going to recommend this game after I beat the game, but I won't be able to beat the game until there is an update that causes this issue to get resolved. Until such time, I will have to skip playing the game since there's no way around the rock/boulder blocking the exit that I can see.
I think I got 2 dollars of enjoyment out of this game. With that said, I don't think you should buy it. I bought this to try my hand (badly) at the $100 bounty and gave up at about level 22 because I got tired. Massive GG to the winner. As many of the other reviews have said, this game is super unbalanced and I've heard the mid 30s are awful and are basically a brick wall. But if you're a masochist and you want to torture yourself, this game is not a bad way to do that.
This was was slightly fun. The game consists of the player getting 4 pre-made fighter heroes and is tasked to fight 1 battle on each level of the 100 floor tower. The player can save the game after each battle with limited access to any gear upgrades. At level 10 the player has to fight a boss monster and after that, the player is given the option to switch classes with no information about what each class can do. At level 11, the player is given a access to NPCs that are selling new weapons and armors to choose from but the player cannot afford anything and the battles are getting longer and longer. After each battle the player is forced to buy consumable items to heal because no class has any healing magic which is frustrating. There is no way to grind or repeat any battle in order to get stronger for the next battle as the game is designed with 1 fight per floor, this feels bad. I only got to about level 13 or so before I gave up. The monsters you fight at each floor may be pre-determined, but the monsters randomly hit too hard, they can hit multiple times, and multiple heroes per attack while the player can only hit one enemy at a time and has very limited access to supplies. Magic is not available enough and the one class that can cast spells runs out of MP after a couple spells, and is required to buy supplies to refill MP, and the player need to choose between healing items of MP items. With the player having to sell what ever small loot that drops from the last level's monsters for a little gold just to turn around and spend that on healing items just to be able to fight the next level is very frustrating and begins to loose its charm very quickly. The fights are not balanced, and there needs to be a way for the players to build up their characters to fight the next level in the dungeon. In the current state the game is not fun to play after a certain point.
This game has no replay ability. If you could grind certain floors this would be fine to have higher floor mobs be stronger but you just keep going up without being able to do anything else like you can't even return to lower floors you can only go to next floor. When you get to next floor the door locks behind you so you can't even go back and grind lower floor mobs. Didn't get far into the game but once I switched my characters classes without knowing what would happen or what abilities they would get I decided that was enough. Each floor: Kill mobs gain loot. Sell loot. Use money you just got to buy potions to recover back hp & or mp back & have no cash left. Go to next floor repeat. If you just used the "recover all event" that comes with the game engine after battles this game would be a lot better since you only fight 1 mob per floor anyways. Using all the gold you just earned to recover you're party after each battle just makes you feel like your making no progress as even when you level up you don't recover hp or mp. The other thing that bugs me is that none of the characters starts with a ability to heal, or at least deal elemental damage. When I finally got a healing ability for a character "after 10 floors" it costed 100 mp to cast it and characters at that level could only have around 300mp max so its just as expensive as just buying a potion from the store and that is insane!
dev didnt really think his game (fully) through , examples: -no skill desc almost anywhere ,how much does this 1 healing spell in the whole game do for me? ,the cost is 100 mp ,reading that i suspected that spell to do wonders ,whelp so much for that. -monsters drop crap items that sell for way more then they should ,this dirt? who would buy this? huh? 400 G for it?? ok???? -the sort of progression you're required to achieve in this game should consist of more then the guaranteed exp & drops from the enemies on each floor unfortunately :c ,im NOT saying i should have access to a grinding area though ,just that the setup so far aint justified a whole lot ,maybe add some mini games before the class upgrade room to load on more funds for the road ,im just spit-balling. THAT BEING SAID THOUGH ,this game has soul to it ,i could see an alternate reality version of younger me very excited to create this game & super proud of themselves for getting it looking like it does on here ,there for im recommending it despite my complaints wholeheartedly.
Game is very unbalanced, don't recommend it
This game took my family hostage
