Its good, very Turok-like. Only "negative" is, that it runs locked in 60fps and it has no FOV slider. edit: ignore the negatives, these options are in the settings, I was just blind :D
the quality/price ratio is as insane as a fake holiday scheme
Cute little tongue-in-cheek shooter, with good movement, gunplay and quite an enemy variety. $5 is kind of a steal to be honest.
Not really sure why it’s reviewed so positively, I found it very underwhelming. Frustrating janky weapon switching that locks you into animations, long mazey levels that are confusing to navigate, annoying and spongy enemies with homing attacks. Its biggest sin is that it just isn’t very interesting. Nothing surprising, no fun bosses, no unique level ideas, boring repetitive music. It’s just a fundamentally derivative and unappealing game.
Zortch (Maxinum Against The Brainsuckers) is a charming game through and through. Every weapon feels like it's worth using (except the wrench, sadly). The pistol is good for turtling one's self and at a height advantage. The Shotgun excels at protecting you while exploring. The SMG is also a sniper and pops heads better than anything else you have. Dynamite, the Grenade Launcher, and the Flamethrower are all useful for various forms of crowd control, and the Brain is your BFG. While I never really found a reason to use Trip Mines, the fact they are a selectable weapon means you can pick up mines already placed as traps, thereby granting more options for movement in combat. Movement is fast. While you can't shoot while sprinting, the sheer speed you get from it is invaluable for repositioning. Even when the game is actively trying to trap you I never felt cornered, out of movement options, or otherwise without recourse to avoid death. The sound is good, on average. The music and environmental sound effects aren't bad by any means, but there's something about the sound quality that made them a bit grating for my sensitive wittle ears. The gun sound effects aren't as impactful as I'd like, but they did grow on me. All of the reload sounds more than make up for the somewhat weak firing and explosion sounds. It's difficult to put into words, they all sound so very satisfying and tactile, like every mechanism on any given gun is identifiable by sound alone. For $5 Freedom Units, or $6.49 Maple Fun Bucks, Zortch is an incredible and worthwhile purchase. P.S. mutantleg if you read this can I check your grammar and give feedback? I love Zortch's story, the fine details of how it's conveyed could use some work.
zork review +basketball & hoop +bourgar +you can ride a train +vending machines +crunchy, satisfying SFX -can be slightly stuttery depending on your system -a few secrets could be better -e3 as a whole was quite weak
i played this game quite a bit ago, but i felt the need to give it a review, since it deserves it in spades. i cannot even describe how much i adore and cherish this game. it is everything i want out of an indie game, plain and simple. this game is just a pure labor of love, the passion the dev has for the genre is almost unmatched nowadays. ever since the boomer shooter renaissance, we have had people try to cash in on it, and make these games that don’t even understand the spirit of what they’re trying to emulate. this is where zortch excels, it goes above and beyond. i cannot sing enough praise for this game. made by one dev, on its own engine, its just incredible especially considering how it is one of the smoothest games ive ever played. everything just feels so right. you’ll first notice that in the baked in tutorial, where it teaches you the basics without being handholdy. it essentially really gives you the room to experiment and play around with your basic mechanics. a lot of games don’t do tutorials right, and it seems like a minor thing, so why even bother talking about it? well, it’s bc it is essentially indicative of this game as a whole, it wants you to have fun, it wants you to enjoy this ride. it’s not there just to be there, it really cares about you, as a player. the whole game will show you this, the details, the landscapes, the combat, it all just comes together so perfectly, wrapped in a tight little bow. the amount of care put into this game is something rarely seen, it’s what happens when the developer is truly passionate and loves and understands the genre they’re working with. it’s not a cash grab, it’s not a half baked attempt from someone unfamiliar. it knows what it wants to be, and it does it perfectly. there’s so much to be said, but at the end of it all, all i need to say is if you love the genre like the dev loves the genre, pick this up, you won’t regret it. it is one of my favorite shooters, period. highly, HIGHLY recommend.
Quite literally a perfect Boomer Shooter. For less than a meal at McDonald's you are getting so much fun and supporting an awesome dev. I'm not sure what kinda crack they put into this games weapons and levels but my god it unironically rivals all time boom shoot weapon rosters like Dusk, Blood, or Doom II. IT IS THAT GOOD. Can't wait for Zortch 2!
Pure ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mayhem, straight out of the ´90th .Dev did a super Job catching the aesthetics of Quake and N64 era without those sad console limitations , much fluid gameplay and a not taking him self too serious kind of humor. Especialy the nice Engine makes the cham out of it, probatly nightdive should take a look and maybe pay for usage , would help them a lot to get better retro style in their catalog. The lightening ,the Dust effects and glow on explosions are delicious. Together with the little sick master piece Carnal top notch when it comes to last 20 years tasty Quake alikes Not just pink on the inside , but Well Done
its good
