It pains me to say the following about Zolaris because you can tell its heart was in the right place, but it just so happens to be held back by inexperience and tech problems galore. Story begins rather intriguingly as you assume control over Valeria, resident gunslinging spirit-dealer, and her chatty incorporeal companion Pike on a mission to, well, "forcefully visit" a local cultist temple with goal in mind to find out what happened to Valeria's sister. Not to mention you're tasked to do so by your village elder because said cultists are clearly up to no good. Entire setup also benefits from game's humble origins in that there are no long preambles on how or why, rather you're left to immediately get into the thick of it. Upon reaching the temple you find out two local spirits, one of Owl and one of Bear, don't much like being usurped and these cultists are trying to summon... something into existence. Each offering their own way to power - stealth or action - and Valeria decides some cleaning up is in order. But what is Zolaris? A FPS combining guns, magic and stealth executed with all the finesse you'd expect from a free indie title that decided to bite more than it could possibly chew. Maybe it's just my nostalgia for Clive Barker's Undying that paints what's attempted here as charming, though. To game's credit it does have a tutorial section for using each of your powers, ranging from close range shocking attack, directional shield protecting for ranged attacks, etc, but these powers for the most part only work when they feel like it. Whispers meant to distract the enemy was absolute bust for me and aforementioned shield was a 50/50 toss up, for example. Not that enemies can really do much to you beyond swarming, even taking into account you have a pretty pissy eight-round revolver with extremely dodgy rate of fire. Something that pleasantly surprised me was how two spirits offer their own paths to progressing throughout the game. Do you want to sneak around to get tomes of power or straight up destroy obelisks? Considering game is jank incarnate I went with destruction and even than I experienced my share off problems. Surprisingly, there are bosses. You guess how that went down. I lost count just how many times I had to restart from checkpoints because scripts wouldn't load or level geometry decided it has had enough leaving me stuck in the void. The worst thing was when I had to restart the game altogether because Zolars HAS save support and does, in fact, let you load. Problem being save slots are session-based so they disappear upon quitting.

Birinci şahıs gizli nişancı oyununda Zolaris, Valeria ve ruh arkadaşı Pike, küçük kız kardeşi Velvet'i kurtarmak için Sonun Kültü olarak bilinen bir gruptan antik eser Zolaris'i çalmaya koyulur.
I Can't do this
I wanna give this game a thumbs up out of the nature of being kind. But to anyone else who knows how I write reviews, that's not what is about to happen. What is Zolaris? A love project where you play as an unsuspecting Siren from Bioshock. Tricked out only with a Jakobs Pistol, and the left-hand side skill tree. You're tasked with fighting cultists who can't seem to figure out how to move through walls like you can, but do know the infinite ammo glitch and are more than happy to use it on you. Later you are given a series of choices between a Bear and an Owl, who represent insanity and kindness. However, this is a trick of the developer. Really if you choose the Bear, even once, the game sends a horrifying Keter Class Cognitohazard at you: Stairs. And they will disappear on you, or become illusions, at which point the real horror begins. You'll have to fight the Omni class Mutant, and Dangerous Cognitohazard: Gravity. It's all over from there, no way to stop it, you'll just fall forever. Luckily this game does have some sort of like checkpoint thing, but it's not guaranteed, and sometimes you'll have to restart the whole game. If you do choose the Owl, you'll have to fight things like giant fire-breathing dogs that get stuck on every rock and summon an unending wave of cultists. Which is less entertaining than just falling forever and fighting the God of spacetime
TL;DR
The developer stretched themselves way too thin, they made a great horror simulator, but not a good shooter, action, 3D, stealth, or FPS game. In fact, in all of those aspects, this game is trash.
Me hubiera gustado poder recomendarlo.
Before I played Zolaris, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
So dissapointing. Everything about the idea and concept of the game sounds so extremely good. Some sort of Bioshock/Dishonored game with cultists and stuff. We instead play a game where you begin with no tutorial, where you have all powers, and where the controls of the game in the layout settings and tips are only for console. On top of that it also had horrible fps, no adjustable graphics settings and bad map design. I am incredibly dissapointed. I expected so much from this game, but instead got what seems like a completly unfinished game. I would be so happy to change this review to a positive one if the devs would fix this game. Add a progressive story, even if it's a horrible story just have some sort of progression instead of just dropping us in a cultist temple with all powers, dashes/blinks and God knows what else. Allow us to unlock powers and weapons and get used to them. I highly recommend playing Dishonored or re-playing Bioshock to understand how to execute this well. You are clearly fans of Bioshock and I have respect for that, so please get back to work on this game and turn it around. I would be happy to pay for a game like this. I have faith in you, Owl Path.
