Zen: A Gay Sequel

It's a good game but frustratingly difficult to get all the character routes even on standard difficuly. There are no walk through guides for this second installment which really sucks! The writing is good/solid - the characters likable it's just trying to romance them is problematic. I can't get Malik or Dan amd to unlock easy mode you have to get all 4 routes completed to do that. Challenging - Too much for me now. I NEED a walk through to see what I'm missing.

I would say I overall like it. As a sequel it's a little disappointing that 3 of the 4 romancable characters are all from the last game. I would have thought it would have been an expansion on the limited options or at least all new options. I guess it was nice to see my character from the first game as an actual person. But with cute guys like mark and mike added it's a little meh that it's just the same ol people. I just felt less compelled to be interested in dating them as I kinda already got to know them the first game. The gameplay is improved for me as I enjoy the planner system and having more control over the week to week activities. All and all it's a decent sequel. I would like to see more from them in this vein of gameplay.. Even better with all new characters.

Fun and addictive

It's a screen by screen based sort of choose your own adventure of US college for a gay (or possibly bi) man. The graphics, though unanimated, are of a beautiful style and the gameplay is fairly realistic and rather deep as your character and the others go through the various dramas that are not uncommon for that age. A lot of unlockables. As such it hits well above what I would normally give a screen by screen type of game. Well worth it.

Such a great game... or gay-me! It touches on topics that are very real but in a (mostly) non-triggering way and allows you the option of looking at situations from different perspectives. The LGBT community have man "universal experiences" that actually play out differently for each person and this game highlights that. That aside, the options of how to execute your schedule are fun and I love seeing the way my semester plays out. HIGH REPLAY-ABILITY and I will be doing my 2nd run though very soon. I need to know how all these different stories play out!

If you are going to play this game, go play Yearning: A Gay Story. YAGS will introduce you to most of the characters in this game. Also, it will setup the style of the game (game play is a little different). There are a few new things in this game like the schedule and the mini-games. I was confused by the schedule at first, but I liked it after I figured it out. And the mini-games are cute. I like little additions to visual novels. I loved YAGS so much. The characters made me fall in love with them, so I enjoyed this game as well. James is my favorite, so I was a little sad he wasn't romanceable, but it makes sense. Playing as Carlos was different, but it was fun to see things from his point of view. His interactions with all the characters would be very different from my player character in YAGS. Overall, if you know the characters and the universe, you will enjoy this game. I liked it, and I bought the coloring book too. I can't wait to color the characters. If you haven't, seriously play YAGS first. Bob also has some really good companion fics on his website.
