Zebulon: A Lost Cat

작지만 있을 건 다 있는, 야옹이가 주인공인 메트로배니아입니다. 여섯 개의 스킬을 얻고, 일곱 개의 열쇠를 모으면 엔딩을 볼 수 있습니다. 몇 구간은 혈압이 조금 오르는 느낌이었고, 마지막 한 구간에서는 내리 30분을 소모했을 정도로 피지컬을 좀 요구합니다. 힘에 부치는 순간도 있었지만, 적당히 재미를 주는 맵기라고 생각합니다. 12분 안에 클리어 하는 도전 과제와 30초 혹은 1분마다 사망하는 모드가 있을 정도로 규모는 아주 작습니다. 스킬은 지도와 보물 위치를 알려주는 등의 기능도 포함 되어 있기 때문에, 사실상 대시와 더블 점프와 수속성 고양이가 되는 세 가지 뿐이고요. 하지만 옹골찬 맵 구성부터 스킬 해금 순서의 자연스러움, 쫄깃한 플랫폼의 설계 등 나무랄 데가 없이 꼼꼼하고 짜임새가 좋습니다. 아쉬운 점을 굳이 꼽자면 매달리기의 조작이 너무 민감해서 가끔 벽에 붙기 어려울 때가 있다는 것과 한 곡으로 무한 반복되는 배경 음악이 크게 나쁘진 않지만 그렇다고 듣기에도 그리 좋진 않다는 것 정도입니다. 물론 조작감은 이내 익숙해지는 부분이고, 음악은 취향의 영역인 데다 음량을 줄이면 딱히 거슬리진 않았기에 큰 문제는 아닙니다. 고양이스럽게 앙증맞은 규모로 야무지게 압축되어 있으니, 메트로배니아를 속성으로 맛보고 싶은 분들에게 추천합니다. Zebulon? You said Zebulon? Really good game with interesting and captivating retro vibes. This little project reminds me of some old games which I played on my Sega Master System - even my ZX Spectrum. There is something we lost in this game because of modern platformers - a fresh taste, the pure gameplay which requires skills and many attempts so as to reach the goal. The aesthetic under Pico is not bad at all and the controls work well as expected for similar games. The keys are imposed, but why not? Zebulon is cute, addictive and really well done. Ce petit projet me rappelle certains vieux jeux auxquels je jouais sur ma Sega Master System et mon mémorable ZX Spectrum. Il y a quelque chose que l'on a perdu dans ce jeu à cause des jeux de plateforme modernes - une fraîcheur, un pur gameplay qui nécessite des compétences et de nombreuses tentatives pour atteindre le but. L'esthétique sous Pico n'est pas mal du tout et les commandes fonctionnent bien comme on l'attend pour des jeux similaires. Les touches sont imposées, mais pourquoi pas ? Zebulon est mignon, addictif et vraiment bien fait. Pour quelques euros, un bon jeu de plateforme que je vous recommande. 5/5 ++ Зебулон? Ты говорил о Завулоне? Действительно, очень хорошая видеоигра с интересной и захватывающей ретро-атмосферой. Этот маленький проект напоминает мне старые игры, которые я играл на своей игровой приставке Sega Master System и на своем ZX Sinclair. Эта видеоигра отличается от современных платформеров по своему чистому геймплею, который требует умения и множества попыток, чтобы достичь цели. Эстетика совсем неплохая, а контроль хорош, как и ожидалось от подобных видеоигр. Зебулон милен, захватывающ и действительно хорошо создан. Хороший платформер за несколько монеток, рекомендую. 5/5++

lovely and cute, pico8 for the win!

very cute and short game. the game itself is anywhere between 15-60 minutes depending on how good you are at platformers, but it makes up for this in replayablity and speedrun-ability.

A good Pico-8 metroidvania platformer that makes you think and plan ahead. Widescreen support pushes it one step above vanilla Pico games. Colour-blindess options are definitely a plus. You don't often get them in small indie games and you especially tend to not get them in Pico-8 games. There's a plenty of challenge even in the normal game mode, and if that's not hard enough - there are 6 more modes, each one adding its own twist. Zebulon may be a bit too hard for platforming casuals like me, so I'll need to train quite a bit to beat it. And then, who knows? Perhaps, one day I'll try one of those challenges. It would be nice to have an achievement or two.
