Was initially very excited, despite the crashes and technical issues, because this game copied World of Warcraft's arena PvP system. I was excited at the concept of a free version. After several matches with a toxic player who did nothing but complain and rage in general chat about other players and game mechanics(while not understanding them themselves), I asked if they "intended to be a **** all night?". To be fair, i did try nicely. I was immediately kicked from the server. When i logged back in the most pompous response triggers on my character along the lines of "I intended to insult someone in chat, and was kicked from the server. The next time I do it I will be banned." So i quit on the spot. This is clearly a game intended for children, by children. With all due respect, there are many ways to filter mature content from chat. That was nothing but an asinine power trip. I don't think gamers need a holier than thou SJW being pious over their chat, as it clearly doesn't absolve the chat of toxicity anyways. I was instantly reminded of a negative review from a former friend of the developer, where he called him a "megalomaniac". Makes perfect sense now. Good luck with your game Lycanic. UPDATE 9/29/2018 Shortly after receiving several upvotes, the development team tried to repeatedly flag this review for being "off topic" and "abusive", in order to erase valid criticisms about game mechanics. At no point did they reach out to me. I find this behavior to be highly unprofessional and dishonest. UPDATE 10/1/2018 A developer from the team finally reached out to me and explained that he spoke with the other developers and they agreed that it wasn't okay to abuse the review flagging system to remove criticism. While i was responding, the developer changed his comments to be ambiguous and suggest that the developers had flagged my review out of a misunderstanding. I found this to be incredibly frustrating and underhanded. When I confronted the developer about this he claimed it was because he didn't know the developer banner would be by his name. When i explained that he along with the other devs had been deceptive and I felt it was best to keep my review up to reflect that, he resorted to try to paint me as an unreasonable bully. We were unable to reach a resolution. I left the comments for you to make your own mind up about. Final update 10/7/2018 Despite claiming they would no longer monitor this thread, The Zeal development team showed up to this review nearly daily to modify their comments. At one point they tried to label this review the "Official Zeal Hate Thread". They lied repeatedly in an attempt to discredit me and smokescreen players about the poor interaction between me and the development team. They even went as far as to repeatedly suggest i was deleting their comments and attacking them in other forums, at times i wasn't even online. I deleted ONE comment from the developers that was a personal attack AFTER we failed to reach a resolution, where they tackily advertised their discord. After that, i asked players and they told me to just let the developers dig their own hole and I've left their comments alone. Nothing has been altered in a way that would make anything on this thread look irrelevant. It's clear from the context of the comments that the only person to change their comments was the developer. I had a feeling they would try and take this route. Fortunately I screenshotted their responses. Feel free to look them up on my profile under "art", as far as I'm concerned this team is a real piece of work. For me, this was a big red flag. Multiple members of the team had shown compromised integrity. They are asking for your money and your trust that they will deliver on their word. Scolding players like children, abusing the review system to remove criticism, lying and acting like the victim afterwards aren't actions that suggest they will keep their promises. Players should not have to worry about libel from a development team for voicing an opinion on game mechanics and valid concerns over interactions with their developers. These actions are not comforting from a team that is asking for crowdfunding. For me the answer is no. Please be careful with your money

I found this game randomly while digging through what I call the crates of steam. I'm a newly single dad with a four month old daughter I work 60-hour weeks I don't have much time for games like World of Warcraft and their PDP that I love so much, so when I came across as Zeal I was pleasantly surprised I've always missed PVP in World of Warcraft but I don't miss world Warcraft fact I kind of hate that game but the Battlegrounds the 2v2 3 B 3 S I miss I always kind of wish there was a game I could just log in and battle and I have to worry about leveling up a character doing quest to get the gear stuff like that Zeal is everything I miss about doing Battleground PVP and nothing of the ♥♥♥♥ I hate about wow. If you like PVP battlegrounds with wizards warriors Paladin's clerics stuff like that gives you a chance guaranteed you're going to like it and if you don't it's just because you suck at it practicing you might like it
This game can be great. Imagine Arena in WoW without the grind and only the fun. Looking forward to whats to come.
This game is very early in development. Most assets are planned to be swapped out after the Kickstarter. As of now there is not much room for balanced matches. You will quickly get queued with other players despite any difference in rating. Most new players get discouraged and blame balance when they're just playing against someone who has played for months and may even be top in the ladder. If you can look past that and are willing to learn the game it easily becomes very enjoyable to play especially with friends. You can avoid playing against seasoned players by playing against bots in 1v1, 2v2, or 3v3 ( Which have their own ratings and scale in difficulty the more you climb against them) or you can challenge a specific player to a duel to practice that way. The Official Zeal Discord is inviting and most people are pretty helpful when it comes to questions. The game is constantly updating and the devs interact with the community more than any other game I've seen. The game is not perfect. It has bugs, most of which the devs fix within the day when they're notified. Some 1v1 matchups can be frustrating depending the classes but nothing is impossible to win. The most active server is Dallas which may lead to problems finding matches if you prefer to play in another region at certain times. Concerning the negative reviews it seems nearly every negative review is from a player that has sub 2 hours of gameplay and is complaining about balance instead of learning about counterplay. The game is free to play with zero pay to win aspects. Try it for yourself if you're interested in competitive arena games.
This is pre-alpha guys. This is like a small demo of what’s to come.

game gets patched constantly.
Game is fun & free for pre-alpha
game is pvp focus, no leveling required.
a few classes already out

witch, mage, ranger, warrior, paladin, cleric

game modes are -- 1v1, 2v2. 3v3

special event modes: 1v1v1v1v1 & a pve boss game mode.

My thoughts: I will be 100 percent blunt. There are things I do not like. The balance can always be improved, but it slowly gets better with all the constant patching they do. Sometimes some classes will get F'ed up for a bit, it happens when everything is limited in a demo. Some classes need better work with their theme, animation, and graphics...yes. But for a pre-alpha game, it’s in an incredible state. Do I get frustrated at times? Hell yes, there are a lot of things I just don’t like, but there are even more things I love about the game that makes me stay. I see potential and I believe they can do it if we give them the chance. Right now, the game is in pre-alpha, it is free, and straight out from loading my char I get to customize it and pvp. What more can you want from a small demo version of a game? Currently we have a Kickstarter up, join discord and participate. if we reach 100 pledges, we will get a new class. Here is the link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/558841808/zeal-first-action-rpg-without-grinding/description What’s to come?

battlegrounds, world pvp
deep intense customization -- from more masteries, primes, stats, abilities, and weapons.
more classes

shaman, occultist, shapeshifter, monk, Beastmaster, brute, exile, dark lancer, dragon knight

cosmetic customization -- pure looks no stats
some more pve stuff (not a pvp player so i don't care about this)
again, still no leveling
buy to play on release, no monthly sub!
Alpha stage, Beta stage, release
Pre-alpha pros and cons:

very fun
no leveling any chars! switch, set up your char, and go straight into pvp
many classes to choose from
free atm so why not?
not many bugs for a pre-alpha game. Runs very nicely imo!
decent amount of customization already for a pre-alpha game
patches a lot!
Cons:

some classes might have theme issues
balance issues, but its due to most of the game not being out yet
it’s not bug free guys, its pre-alpha
lots of customization missing because it’s not a full release game --- pre-alpha
graphics not the greatest atm
animation not the greatest atm
TLDR: Try out the game and have fun. Give useful feedback. Pledge / support their Kickstarter so that we may see the full game be released. Join discord to get involved. Don't expect the game to be a full experience because it is in pre-alpha stage. If you think that in trying it out this game in it's current stage might push you away, then you can back away and not play, but please pledge / support so the developers might have a chance to release the full game in alpha. That way you can try it out then. if we never support organizations like these, then we will never be able to obtain a decent game that we all deserve!
This game is for sure an amalgamation of previous concepts and ideas, that in my opinion, were improved upon by this dev team. The commitment they have to their game and community is insane, and easily gained my respect, with daily patches and responding to the community every step of the way. The combat in this game is my favorite, with my PvP background being that of a 2k MMR Warlock player back in Burning Crusade, and almost 100 hours of platinum tier Battlerite experience. Simply put, this game is easily comparable to any other arena style, like WoW or Battlerite, but isn't so easily labeled a copy or parody, it is a seperate identity with different core mechanics. The introduction of direcional abilities helps seperate this game from other arena genre games, and has a fluid progression to every match. Each class is seperate and unique, with different builds and playstyles. Obviously the same can be said for most games, but its different from a game based off of instantly unlockable characters and builds. Immediately you can customize your class, make any build you want, and no builds are so awfully unbalanced that other builds are unplayable. The game released right now as a pre-alpha early acess demo doesn't even have half the classes that it will on launch, and I personally am very excited to see the progression of this community and follow along for the ride.
Zeal is a well made made Action MMORPG without tab targetting. It requires extreme skill and timing and is like all the best arenas of all the best games without the gear or lvl grind. Im looking forward to BGs and Dungeons and more classes to be released. This could definitely be one of the next greats, underrated and under the radar <3
Dont waste time here, it is dead and developer randomly decide to hype it every half year to generate some money or something.
Dead game its terrible compared to what it used to be, everything is extremely slow now, used to be faster paced before now its just garbage. Was excited to see it come back but now its complete trash.
