Sometimes i like remembering the good old C64 and AMIGA500 Times. Small and simple Games with simple Graphics and Musics. Just for having Fun without any DLC´s or Patches. Just start and play. Like here. Welcome to YUMPR! I fear that will be my shortest Review ever. Well, because there is not much to write about it. Let´s see. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3171176311 It feels that the Legendary SUPER MEAT BOY has a little Brother: YUMPR. YUMPR is a really challenging but fair 2D Platformer. No killing enemys, just avoiding Monsters and mastering obstacles of all kind. Just try to reach the End of a Level. It is amazing how smooth and on point the Controlls are. The DEV did a very good job. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3171176469 If you think you are a very skilled Controller Master, then try to beat YUMPR. A Controller is highly recommended not only by me, also from the DEV itself. The Graphics are nice done and that goes also for the Music. Simple but straight. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3171176751 Oh i forgot. You have unlimited Lives. Instead of losing lives you have a dead Counter, how many times you died. There is an Achievement you get if you master the Game without losing a Life. As i said: Chaaaaaaaaaaaallenging but fair. A big thanks to the Developer for the nice Journey into some nice Memories. So if you want a little but challening Game for just 0,99 Cent, then this is for you. Thank you for reading.
YUMPR Review

Warning! Challenging Platformer Ahead!

Don’t be fooled by the graphics, YUMPR is a very challenging platformer! Can you beat the 30 levels? Should you? Keep reading to find out!
About This Game

Storyline
YUMPR is more about the gameplay than the story itself. The game does not tell you the story and you jump into the levels right away! By their page, I gathered that your name is Yumpr and you are an astronaut who crashed in a hostile environment. Your goal is to survive and escape!
Gameplay mechanics
The gameplay is where YUMPR shines. It’s a precision platformer that plays as a long stage, but with 29 flags that mark the save points, and the 30th being where you get to the end. For this review, we will consider each flag as a level. The platforming is challenging, but fair and rewarding. The more you play, the better you get. It’s a very well developed precision platformer! Not only that, but the flags (save points) are placed exactly where they should be. You may die as many times as you need, and you can choose to teleport to any flag you have already been to. Your performance is measured by the number of deaths you needed to get to each flag. Every section adds some new features and variety for you to test your skills! It’s fun and challenging. The achievements are nice, but very hard, like finishing everything without dying. For you to have an idea, my final death count was 518! And I am a seasoned platformer! The music is also very solid, which adds a nice touch since you will be listening to it for a while. It keeps changing every now and then, and the transitions cannot be noticed. YUMPR would be a very fun game to stream!
Pros

• Very fun game! • Controls are precise. • No cheap deaths. • Very well placed save points. • Nice music.
Cons

• Only 1 save file. If you want to play again to hunt for achievements, you have to delete your save file. • No records section. The game could show how many deaths you needed per flag. Both from the beginning up to the flag, and from flag to flag. • No online ranking. It would be nice to have an online ranking overall and per flag. • The user interface for the menu and pause sections could look a bit better. • You cannot choose to change the music playing if you want to. • No in-game story.
Conclusion

As you could see, all the cons are improvement suggestions to foster replayability. This is a great precision platformer that you can recommend to anyone that likes a challenge It’s hard to strike the balance between hard and unfair, but YUMPR does it extremely well. The more you play, the better you get, there are no cheap deaths and the save points are placed exactly where they should be. Highly recommended! Time to beat: 2.5h Rating: 9.5/10 Played on SteamDeck Reviewer: green I'm green 🍀 Please follow United Critics for more quality reviews.
Captivating precision platform with good difficulty curve.
This is the kind of game that reminds us that good gameplay combined with creative level design generates so much fun that it makes irrelevant eventual simplicity of the graphics. There are some details that can be improved (soundtrack and menu aesthetics, for example), but the essential surely was done right: the responsive controls and the fair challenge of the levels are 10/10. YUMPR is Super Meat Boy's less-famous younger cousin. I'm looking forward to new games from this promising developer. If you like platforms, give it a try! EDIT AFTER PLAYING MORE: the variety of challenges is impressive. Really great game!
games like skull and bones exist to take your money, games like this exist to bring joy. great game for the price. gold find
I have 1000 deaths on a single checkpoint and I love it

YUMPR is a challenging 2D pixel-art platformer developed and published by DybotoGames that embraces the philosophy of classic arcade-style gaming. It is a game built around persistence, precision, and gradual improvement, offering an experience that rewards determination more than anything else. Rather than relying on elaborate storytelling, extensive progression systems, or modern conveniences, YUMPR focuses almost entirely on platforming fundamentals. The result is a straightforward but engaging adventure that constantly pushes players to improve their timing, reactions, and mastery of movement. The premise is intentionally simple. Players take control of Yumpr, a small character who has crash-landed in a hostile environment populated by dangerous creatures and deadly obstacles. The objective is survival. From the opening moments, the game establishes a world where every mistake can be costly and every successful jump feels meaningful. There is little emphasis on narrative exposition, allowing the gameplay itself to become the primary source of engagement. This old-school approach keeps the pace moving and places all attention on overcoming the challenges ahead. Movement is the core of the entire experience. The controls are easy to understand, but true mastery requires practice. Running, jumping, and navigating hazards form the foundation of every level, and the game quickly demonstrates that success depends on precise execution rather than luck. Players must develop a strong understanding of momentum, spacing, and timing if they hope to survive the increasingly difficult stages. The controls remain responsive throughout, which is essential for a game that demands such accuracy from its players. One of YUMPR's most notable strengths is its commitment to difficulty progression. The early portions of the game act as a gentle introduction, familiarizing players with the basic mechanics and enemy behaviors. However, this sense of comfort does not last long. As new hazards are introduced and level layouts become more complicated, players are forced to adapt continuously. The game steadily increases the challenge without feeling unfair, encouraging skill development through repeated attempts and careful observation. The level design reflects this philosophy well. Stages are built around a variety of platforming scenarios that test different aspects of player ability. Some sections emphasize precise jumping, while others focus on avoiding hazards or reacting to enemy movement patterns. The gradual introduction of new obstacles keeps the experience from becoming repetitive and ensures that players remain engaged throughout the adventure. Every level feels like another lesson in mastering the game's mechanics. Enemy encounters add additional pressure to the platforming. Rather than simply serving as background obstacles, enemies often force players to rethink their approach and carefully time their movements. Learning how each threat behaves becomes an important part of progression. Combined with environmental dangers such as spikes and traps, these encounters create a constant sense of tension that keeps players alert and invested in every stage. The game's structure is built around repetition and improvement. Failure is frequent, particularly during later sections, but the design encourages players to treat each defeat as a learning opportunity. Overcoming a difficult obstacle after numerous failed attempts creates a strong sense of accomplishment that lies at the heart of the experience. YUMPR understands that challenge can be rewarding when paired with responsive controls and fair level design, and it successfully builds much of its appeal around that principle. Visually, the game embraces a colorful pixel-art presentation that evokes classic platformers from earlier gaming generations. The graphics are simple but effective, prioritizing readability and clarity over visual complexity. Hazards are easy to identify, environments are distinct enough to remain interesting, and the overall aesthetic complements the retro gameplay. While it may not be visually groundbreaking, the art style suits the game's design goals perfectly. The soundtrack also contributes positively to the experience. Rather than relying on a small collection of looping tracks, the game features a large number of short musical pieces that rotate frequently. This prevents the audio from becoming repetitive during extended play sessions and helps maintain a sense of freshness even when players spend considerable time attempting difficult sections. The music remains energetic and supportive without distracting from the gameplay. Another welcome feature is the inclusion of achievements that reward both progression and mastery. These challenges encourage players to improve their performance, complete difficult tasks, and revisit stages with greater confidence. For completionists, they provide additional goals beyond simply reaching the end of the adventure and add extra replay value to the package. The game's primary weakness is its limited scope. Players searching for deep storytelling, extensive exploration, or innovative gameplay mechanics may find YUMPR somewhat simplistic. Its focus remains firmly fixed on platforming challenges, and it rarely deviates from that formula. However, this narrow focus is also part of what makes the game effective. It knows exactly what it wants to accomplish and commits fully to delivering that experience. Ultimately, YUMPR is a solid retro platformer that succeeds through strong fundamentals and a clear understanding of its audience. The combination of responsive controls, steadily escalating challenges, varied obstacles, and satisfying progression creates a rewarding adventure for players who enjoy testing their skills. While it does not attempt to reinvent the genre, it delivers a polished and enjoyable platforming experience that captures the spirit of classic challenge-driven games. Those willing to embrace its difficulty and learn from their mistakes will find a surprisingly satisfying journey hidden beneath its simple presentation. Rating: 6/10
I raged. I platformed. Cute little platformer worth its $0.99 price tag. Can be completed in a couple hours. A couple complaints: - Please PLEASE let me use the dpad to move - Air control feels a bit too slippery
