The only negative i have about this game is IT'S NOT FINISHED, but i must be patient. I really love the moving sprites, the way they move and breath, everyone is beautiful and i'm so enamored with this world. everything is beautiful, it really has a a cool feel. uhh i'm really bad a reviews, but i love this game.
A really intriguing game so far. I am excited at the idea of having only one romantic interest in an Otome. As much as I love choice, this gives the game much better opportunity to fully flesh out this relationship. Also, it'll be interesting to see how player choice effects the story, possibly in ways outside of the main romantic plotline. This is very short as of yet. I was disappointed when it ended! The themes are dark and heavy and the setting immediately leaves an impression. I think a lot of players will be able to sympathize with some of what Jeong is going through right away, setting her aside from the common shallow player-insert or overly pure otome protagonist. Art and music help set the stage quite nicely and this early chapter is well paced. I was engrossed, and usually VNs take some time to catch my full attention. So far my only concern is the text being difficult to read in some areas. During the scene in the "Megamart", the background image is very bright, behind a neon aqua text box with skinny white text. Perhaps I am showing my age a little, but I squinted to read the text during this scene. I didn't have a problem beyond this part as the backgrounds were much darker everywhere else, creating more contrast. I would appreciate if the dev added some options for the text size, font, or text box color.
This - Yakuza Kiss - is a hidden little gem. The story has good pacing. The art grows on you. You can tell the dedication the dev put into this with FX, every scenes feel carefully crafted, it either make you feel guilty, damned or fluffly. The protagonist is relatable if you are more into the dark side, no more naive, cheerful female lead, no more miracle girl. But don't let that dissuade you from buying this game, my fellow otome fans. It's sad, it's dark, it's depressing but the warmth you find through illusions and your "boss" makes it worth fighting for a little longer after all. For now, it's still Early access so there is little to read and lacking some basic functions in a visual novel game (Text speed etc...)
I will start off by saying that I'm of two minds about this game in its current state. On one hand, I do like supporting devs whose games I enjoy, especially indie devs because the road can be really tough. On the other hand, there is not enough content (an hour at my reading speed) to justify its current price to me. The art style is unique and really gorgeous. The sound effects are very atmospheric. The backgrounds have a lot of little details that give them depth and vibrancy. What you see in the preview images is what you get – you have no save function, you cannot hide the text window, the amount of text window space seems disproportionate to the amount of text. What you don’t see – you cannot adjust text speed, there is no text history or going backwards if you click too quickly, switching between scenes (ie, when the auto-save function kicks in) can leave you with a black screen that requires reloading to progress (happened quite often for me for some reason but no one else seems to have mentioned it), so you end up replaying portions carefully when you finally realize that no amount of waiting is going to start a new scene. I know this is Early Access so these are not recommendation killers for me. I am glad to support Pink Potion in this endeavour and I hope to see it become really successful; the game looks wonderful visually, the writing is intriguing and immersive such that I can identify with Jeong. However, and this is why I’m not 100% comfortable in recommending the game in its current state, there isn’t much content for the price that you pay. I feel like the current release is more suited as a demo, and even then, I’ve played demos longer than this current released episode. I also haven’t felt the non-immediate effects of my choices, so I look forward to seeing them come back to bite my shiny bum. If content is not the main criteria that you look for, like me, this game is very much worth a try. Or maybe you'd simply like to support a budding dev. :) I will, of course, be updating this review when I have the chance to experience more content (along with the new price point), which sounds like it will be soon. \o/
So far so good! I bought this game for $9 as a "risky investment" (not that risky), with only four reviews and only one chapter out. This is a one of a kind game (so far) and I'm excited to see where it goes. I don't review a lot, but I really think people should give this story a chance and fund the devs. There's obviously a lot of care and creativity and I highly appreciate it. I can't wait for the next chapter release! Edit: I'm pretty disappointed in the lack of updates. It's been nearly six months since the last chapter (2) and it was multiple months before that. I completely understood that it was early access, I had no qualms about the game, but I'm really left hanging about the future of this game. I wouldn't recommend people get it right NOW just because I don't see any progress and it would be frustrating to get two chapters of this great game and have to wait a year or more to see anything else. Edit 2: Over a year of no updates, DO NOT PURCHASE Edit 3: It took two years, but chapter 3 has arrived! If things return to a normal enough schedule, I would wholeheartedly recommend this VN.
With the second chapter released today, i can finally say- that i really do enjoy this game. Like im just so eager for chapter 3!!!. Who does not want more Jeong or Yuki ;-) But neverless, great work pink potion, keep up the good work! I will be rooting for you <3
Great graphics, sound effects/tracks. Setting is unusual (at least, for western), pretty dark. It's low on content (playtime is ~1-3h depending on your reading speed and if you want to see different decisions), some regular VN features are missing.Updates are taking quite a bit of time, but I cannot say, that they're not worth it. If you're wondering if it's abandoned because last update was X months ago, it's not. Devs are just prefer to tell news on their patreon. I can recommend this game but keep in mind that this is a long term investment, as I already said, there's not enough content right now. Edit: Updated for second chapter
This game is so good. I am in love and I can't wait for it to update.
I've been hesitating about buying or not this title... And honestly I'm SO GLAD I did. I just finished the whole 3 chapters (almost 4h) and I just bought this today, I just couldn't stop playing, the story absolutely gets you. The wordbuilding, scenaries, the characters... I've also laughed a lot, for christ sake, I LOVE this heroine. I just wish they could change the font type... It's too light and my eyes are literally crying for help. Even if I must wait 1 year or more for the next chapters I will, HONESTLY good game, worth the support and the waiting.
