What an amazing game. I have nothing bad to say about it, absolutely amazing.

This prequel taking place in the 1980s is an incredible setup to this world of Yakuza and its leading characters. This was personally my first game of the series so I entered this world with fresh eyes. I loved the dual stories of Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima. I certainly did not expect to care for both characters as equally as I did. This game is full of heart, action, humor, ridiculousness, and suspense. As my version was sub only, I thoroughly enjoyed the acting in this game. There was even a scene where I had to mute my microphone because I was sobbing on stream. I mostly focused on the story but I would highly suggest exploring every inch of this world and its substories and activities. Yakuza 0 has a lot to offer you.

龍が如くシリーズを代表する一本。 個人的にはシリーズ最高傑作だと思っている。 何が凄いかと言えば、ただ過去編を作っただけではなく、桐生一馬と真島吾朗という二人の伝説が生まれる瞬間を描いているところだ。 シリーズを追ってきたファンなら、この二人がまだ「伝説になる前」の姿を見るだけで興奮を抑えられないと思う。 ストーリーは非常に重厚。 欲望や金が渦巻く1988年の神室町を舞台に、誰もが何かを求めて争っている。 その中で描かれる物語は、決して綺麗なだけのものではない。 真島編は「愛」、桐生編は「友情」。 それぞれ違うテーマを持ちながら、欲望にまみれた世界の中で、人とのつながりがどれだけ大きな意味を持つのかを描いている。 特に主人公を取り巻くキャラクターたちが素晴らしい。 味方も敵も一人ひとりに存在感があり、単なるイベントキャラクターでは終わらない。 この人は何を考えているのか。 この先どうなるのか。 気づけばゲームを遊んでいるというより、一本のドラマを見ているような感覚で物語に引き込まれていた。 そして何より、最後に無印版「龍が如く」へつながっていくことを考えると、この作品の重みがさらに増す。 あの桐生一馬が、あの真島吾朗が、ここから始まったのかと思うと感慨深い。 龍が如くを初めて遊ぶ人にも、シリーズファンにもおすすめできる一本。 これほどまでに過去編として成功した作品は珍しいと思う。 龍が如くというシリーズがなぜ長く愛されているのか、その理由が詰まった作品。 龍が如くの開発とともに自分が大人になっていけたことに感謝の気持ちが芽生えた作品だった。
