Worth it! I had a lot of fun playing the game. It's simple and quirky. The best part is the style: the music, the humor, and the graphics all working together to create what I think might be best described as an Anti-Earthbound. Pineview is a gross place. The people are weird. It's full of homeless vagrants and humor that goes far, but I never felt like it went too far. I'm looking forward to a sequel! I felt like there were some balancing issues with some of the abilities: solar slap only felt useful in the beginning, the tentacle attack felt really expensive for what it does, the defense boosting ability that one of your party members gets felt really weak for how expensive it was, and I never used the big heal you get at the end because the first heal you get does plenty of healing (it works really well) and your characters just don't have enough HP to warrant a bigger heal for such a high cost. I'd have liked to have seen a larger variety of equipment, but what's there works; the game is only about 10 hours long, and I felt like the rewards and the equipment you could buy were well balanced. I just like the option to customize my characters, and there's very little of that in the game. Which is fine. The game leans more into story and art than mechanics, and it was a really fun little story that I'd love to see expanded. There are no random encounters. The game is very railroaded; I don't think that's a bad thing because it delivers on what it sets out to do: tell a funny story with some emotional pull. It's simple in a good way. The game is pretty easy once you get the hang of it: most of your damage is going to be dealt by causing status ailments: bleed, gross, and burn. Bleed is the big one, but you could rely more on burn and gross if you wanted to buy the items that cause those (they're all different kinds of bombs). I didn't use the "bombs" until the end of the game, and they weren't necessary; since the game is so railroaded, you're always at the right level to take on a enemies, so levels are more about changing the way your characters work than overpowering weaker enemies. I just used the bombs to add some burn damage to speed up some of the later fights. Fights are long in this game, but there aren't a ton of them. I'd say there's just the right amount. Overall, a great project especially for the price. Remember to save. Learn the economy. Enjoy the ride!
Game is fun, the dialogue is funny, overall fun game. Would recommend
Very solid earthbound/mother 3 inspired RPG. Great soundtrack too, highly recommended to all RPG fans.
clogsworthe my beloved
This is definitely an earthbound like game, which is why it is great. I hope it gets a sequel.
I had initially purchased this game because it looked like a great little homage to Earthbound and was available at a very fair asking price. There is a lot of charm to what I experienced, but as an RPG it really fell flat on some critical areas which were enough for me to warrant a refund. You play as an alien on a mission to conquer the planet by defeating humans and mind controlling them to serve your boss. I enjoyed the art, music, story, and dialogue. There are a few big glaring issues for a game like this: - You get zero experience from the things you defeat, and have no way to level up your characters to get stronger. This is likely a bug, but the developers are unresponsive and the games nearly been out a year, so I don't think a fix is planned. - There are no random encounters or generated enemies in the overworld to fight. There are only pre-scripted, one-and-done fights that offer very little resources and again, zero experience, when defeating. - The boss fights have an insane amount of health, and due to the lack of equipment (EVERY STORE IS CLOSED THAT SHOULD SELL GEAR) and the lack of increased stats from leveling up (again, due to ZERO EXPERIENCE when defeating enemies) you are forced to engage in a battle of slowly whittling down the enemy health in between spamming healing items you got from a vending machine, which is not sustainable given the limited amount of resources you get from the limited, pre-scripted encounters. Don't support this game until the developers start supporting it too.
