Xenonauts is a strategy game in which you control a multi-national military organisation defending a Cold War-era Earth from alien invasion, using small squads of persistent soldiers to eliminate the extraterrestrials and recover their technology in turn-based ground combat.

Not sure how to feel about this game, obviously inspired from XCOM: UFO Defense (1994), but it feels like someone chucked in UFO: Alien Invasion in for some reason. It is still unforgiving, it improves the UI and graphics (not a high bar to clear tbh), it has made air combat actually exciting... it just feels like it is missing something. There is little things like the damage and hitting enemies feeling less impactful - you have no idea in UFOD (or OpenXcom if you prefer) if you just shot pixie dust or it will kill the enemy in one hit. What mattered is each shot is visually clear and meaningful when they hit. Many guns in this game are automatic fire with a spray of damage numbers or misses in a split second, it is losing the impact and importance behind every single action you take. These settings are adjustable in OpenXcom, you want fast then you get fast, if you want immersive then the camera pans and follows the shot - you are praying the whole time you haven't just lost your experienced captain. It appeals to many types of players through the customisation it offers. Your units are expendable in both games but each conditions you to emotionally react in very different ways when you lose a unit. This is where I move onto Alien Invasion, came out in 2003 and has a very similar vibe to Xenonauts. Another game that has updated graphics but the exact same feeling of incorrectness and clunkiness, incomplete even since it doesn't have an ending, it just doesn't feel quite right. It also has the pounded into dust difficulty but it still suffers from the small things... the way the camera pans to show a flurry of rapid shots... it's a stunted feeling more than anything and neither compare to the original. Fan mods within OpenXcom do a really good job at taking the original base game and transforming it with new mechanics, reworks, interesting guns, refreshing gameplay and generally being really fun. This game is good but it's not going to scratch that itch for me.

Jogo sensacional, repito!

♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game
Scratches the XCOM itch for anyone who isn't happy with the original graphics of XCOM UFO Defense from 1994. I still prefer the original XCOM or the Firaxis reimagining - XCOM Enemy Within. I recommend buying if you want a tactics game to play
The only thing I really feel the game is missing is the ability to dump, like, two companies of soldiers onto an alien base or terror mission. The financial aspect is a bit weird, too. I know it's just another voice in the choir, but I feel like an existential threat on the scale of a global alien invasion deserves less penny-pinching and more "how many National Guard and Internal Security and People's Militia and so on and so forth soldiers can we reassign to this unit?" Overall though it's quite fun.
i want to be an x-com game, but i can barely follow the trail . unfortunatly not as good as i hoped for :(
Amazing game. A must have to the ones that like the original XCOM games.
