About
Xenonauts 2 is a strategy game that puts you in charge of a multinational military organization tasked with eliminating an extraterrestrial threat. Working from the shadows, you must seek out and engage the growing alien presence wherever it appears. Expand and manage a covert network of bases across the globe. Pursue research and development to bridge the technological gap with the alien invaders. Train, arm, and command your ground troops wherever the alien threat emerges.

It is 2009 - the Cold War continues, and the Berlin Wall still stands. In the shadows, a secret organization works beyond arbitrary political boundaries to gather information about a greater threat to humanity. Mysterious sightings of unidentified flying objects and unknown beings have grown more common, coinciding with escalating international tensions and panic. Those who report such sightings frequently disappear without a trace, and it is clear that the aliens grow bolder with each passing day. Time is of the essence.

Knowledge is power - unfortunately, little is known about the alien menace when you take charge. You will need to engage in combat operations around the globe to learn what you're up against. Eliminate extraterrestrial forces in deadly tactical battles to recover research samples, allowing your scientists to improve your equipment and slowly uncover the truth about the alien invasion.
A massive variety of enemy types will keep you on your toes as you fight against a multitude of species, each with their own strengths, weaknesses, and fighting styles. Securing alien bodies to perform autopsies on will give you insights into their potential weaknesses, allowing you to prepare accordingly.
Aliens aren't all you'll be fighting - human agents known as Cleaners work in tandem with the extraterrestrial threat, bringing with them added varieties of troops, combat locations, and mission objectives. The Cleaners work to further alien goals and objectives, operating directly under their influence - any strike against the Cleaners is an indirect strike against their alien overlords. You will have the opportunity to gather intel by infiltrating their bases, securing data, and seeing how far the conspiracy goes.
Every combat engagement is an opportunity to learn more about the enemy force and how it fights - if you're willing to take the risk. Will you look to quickly eliminate active threats using explosives, grenades, and missiles, or will you take a more tempered approach to secure bodies and alien technology that can be taken back to HQ for autopsies and reverse-engineering? Will you focus on the development of airpower to bring down UFOs and investigate their crash sites for additional intel? Your adversary has the advantage in both technology and equipment – any choice you make will involve tradeoffs.

The war against the alien force takes on a global scale - as they attack indiscriminately, your troops must be prepared to operate across the globe using multiple bases, taking time between operations to rest, recuperate, rearm, research, and eventually reengage the enemy. No two campaigns are the same as complex simulations ensure even the smallest variances in decisions will have far-reaching impacts across the entire game.
A small radar station in Alaska detects an anomaly over the Bering Strait. Air Bases in Kamchatka and Yukon scramble jets to investigate, chasing multiple bogeys each, bringing them down over the water. Thousands of miles away, a radar station in Italy works in tandem with response teams stationed at a base in Algeria and an air base in France to take down alien operations on the Iberian Peninsula. Meanwhile, a new base is being built in Southeast Asia where the invaders have slipped through the cracks multiple times, inciting panic. Build, design, and manage multiple bases, each with its own squadrons of fighter jets and transports, radar arrays, research teams, operatives, and more. Consider the limitations of fuel ranges when you place them and use a grid-based construction system to optimally lay each of your bases out. Specialize your bases for detection, rapid response teams, research, manufacturing, and defenses as you see fit.
Pursue multiple avenues of research to acquire a vast variety of aircraft, vehicles, weapons, armor, and other battlefield equipment to experiment with. Your approach on the battlefield will be determined by a combination of the terrain you're engaging in and what equipment you've chosen to bring to the field. The presence of mechanized combat platforms and vehicles can tilt many situations in your favor as they break through cover and deliver particularly devastating ordnance, though their use can come at the cost of the ability to procure valuable resources from intact alien bodies and equipment. The research tree is vast, with over one hundred projects to unlock, allowing you to take on the alien threat with your own personal strategic and tactical touches.
Infuse alien technology across all manner of equipment, and even develop autonomous battlefield combat platforms and sentry guns to assist with your forward operations as well as the defense of your bases. If you give your engineering teams enough time, money, and resources, you'll find yourself well equipped for the threat - unfortunately, all three are perpetually scarce. Will you rush to produce automated combat platforms to minimize the threat to your operatives? Or produce additional dropships to respond to more threats at a time? Or will you seek improved armaments for your fighters to strengthen their ability to intercept and take down alien squadrons?
Training centers you build at your bases allow soldiers to improve their combat capabilities during downtime, but actual combat experience is of course of unparalleled value. Each mission gives your operatives an opportunity to improve their abilities according to the actual actions they take in combat, and even earn medals for their deeds.

Whether fighting in the air or on the ground, your tactical prowess is put to the test when engaging alien attackers. Battles are extremely dangerous affairs, asking you to manage positioning, ammunition, lines of sight, cover, and much more besides - many of your operatives will get wounded, and many of them will die, but those that survive grow more experienced and are more capable of taking on future dangers.
Scramble jets to respond to UFO sightings, engaging them in real-time tactical battles that put you in command of your fighter wings. Tell your pilots how to maneuver and who to target, ensuring their victory while also keeping an eye on their fuel gauge and the proximity of your nearby hangars. No forced 1-1 duels here – if the aliens bring a technologically advanced and heavily armed space craft to the fight, gang up and send a whole squadron of your best planes to bring it down. The strategic layer and air battles are closely intertwined, and careful planning of your global network of bases is of the utmost importance.
Put boots on the ground by sending in your operatives for a variety of mission types, pursuing a range of objectives, but beware – your adversaries will not passively wait for you to discover them. Aliens will actively maneuver and seek you out from across the map, moving intelligently to strike at you from beyond visual range, hiding behind cover and taking advantage of the high ground. Maximize your chance of success through effective reconnaissance and lay ambush to eliminate the enemy.
The battlefield is a dangerous place, and with an alien threat that will not stand idly by as you try to hunt them down, losses are inevitable. This isn’t the story of an elite squad of heroes winning battle after battle without loss – war is hell, and many of your troops will give their lives to resist the alien invasion. Your veteran troops will be invaluable, but even your basic recruits are skilled soldiers ready for combat. It is up to you to enable them to become the veterans of tomorrow.
Xenonauts 2 is a standalone title that does not need any experience playing the original Xenonauts to follow the story or enjoy the gameplay experience. The punishing battles, in-depth strategic layer, and complex simulations will take fans of the series and newcomers alike through a dark and deadly story about the defense of Earth and all humankind.

If you've played Xenonauts 1, you'll feel right at home. The Xenonauts formula is practically similar, almost exact interface, almost exact gameplay loop, almost exact storyline. You'll still find the detailed lore following every discovery, the same-ish tech-tree progression, the same base-building, and so on. Fundamentally, it is Xenonauts 1 2.0 with upgraded graphics. If you haven't, you'll get to appreciate a simple, albeit fun, short turn-based game. There's no bells and whistles, it's a very utilitarian kind of game, down to the story which follows a straightforward beat by beat rebellion against an alien invasion. It lacks some of that "impending doom" mystique of the 1st, where the early hours felt like the invaders could discover you and stop your efforts any time, thus dominating humanity. But to be honest, that game was released in 2014 which was a COMPLETELY different time. So it could just be that my psychology changed.

Love this latest iteration of Xenonauts. It feels and plays like OG XCom. I especially like micromanaging my troops, loading them up individually with gear, and being able to create custom roles with specific loadouts for each one. I truly hope they are successful and maybe we will get an updated XCom 2 and 3.
A great, challenging, turn based tactical combat game. It's a pretty faithful reproduction of the classic X-Com series, with enough new elements and quality of life improvements to make it an enjoyable updated experience. So how does it play? There is a strategic layer, where you manage your base, research and build new tech, recruit soldiers and so on. There is a fun air tactical mini game where you shoot down alien UFOs. And then there is the heart of the game, the turn based tactical game. You move your soldiers into position to shoot the aliens, they shoot back, and you take it in turns until you are hopefully victorious. Suppression fire and overwatch fire add to the tactics, and pretty much all terrain is destructible with explosives, giving you options for removing enemy cover if you need to. Snipers, heavy weapons, shotguns, all have their roles, even guys with a shield and a pistol can be very helpful in finding the enemy! Upgrading armour and weapons help keep things interesting, and there is a bit of an arms race between your researchers and the more deadly aliens who appear later in the game. It is a challenging game, you will definitely lose soldiers on some of the harder missions. Unless you are playing on Ironman there is an autosave running every turn though, so it shouldn't be impossible to recover from a stupid mistake. I had to reload a couple of times, once when I'd fallen behind on the research curve due to missing a couple of UFO interceptions, and once when I messed up on an alien Terror mission and was looking at a squad wipe of my best soldiers. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys strategy games.
If you like turn based tactical combat, this is a fun game.
Старое доброе UFO, надеюсь появится X-COM.
Excellent game! Everything - geoscape, base building, research, production, air combat, tatical battles - comes together perfectly. My personal favorite is tactical level - so many ways to beat a mission.
Xenonauts 2 takes everything that worked in 1 and improves it. Whether you played the first game, or are a fan of the original X-com or similar games I highly recommend Xenonauts 2. I especially appreciated the diverse mission types against the cleaners in the early game, I wish those unique mission continued as the campaign progressed. I liked how streamlined this was compared tot he first game as well and the quality of life improvements included as well. While this was undoubtedly an improvement over the first game, it is hard to refute claims that it feels like Xenonauts 1.5. That being said, I loved the first game and having even more was great! I just wish there was less overlap with the first game. I'm interested in seeing what the future holds for Xenonauts and whether we'll see a Terror From The Deep like sequel or Apocalypse-like sequel, or something original. Thank you so much to the developers and everyone involved in bringing us another great game!
Following the XCOM formula, this is probably the best tactical-RPG-comedy game on the market. PROS: -Maps: The presentation stands out immediately. It's simple but it has its own aesthetic, and each prop conveys all the information you need from cover to doors and explosives, etc etc... And most of everything is destructible from cars to walls to even collapsing floors from underneath enemies that can lead to a knockout or death (this goes both ways). Later game with vehicles and explosives it is a joy seeing the map blowing apart and give you opportunities or nasty surprises. -Basebuilding: Great, with a lot of options and some leeway to allow for learning. You start with one base that you can build anywhere continental, and from there you conduct your defensive operations. As things escalate you can build more bases with more capabilities to allow for more deployments of aircrafts or troops in order to get resources and run offensive operations. The over map basically allow you to spend Operation Points to do different things like garner fundings, reduce panic, increase research... To things like elimination of alien infiltrators to wean off negative effects. Overworld is more or less a numbers game but it carry the illusion well.. -Gameplay pros: It's pretty straightforward but incredibly addictive. You control individuals and/or robot in a squad and you have a ton of customizable options like picking troops' roles and weapons carried down to the magazine or smoke grenade. Then you deploy them into combat zones, each of which depends on the current scenario or escalation phase. You also deploy aircrafts to intercept UFOs, and most of the ones you shot down anywhere in the world you can actually send troops to capture and extract resources. Generally there's a great organic and "planned spontaneity" quality to the game. And the gameplay can be difficult and tense and deaths can be sudden so you need to keep up with the tech arms race. Sometimes the game will throw difficulty spikes at you to remind you that this is a war, you never had the upperhand, but I think it keeps you engaged and thinking about what move is good and what to prioritize and what to let go. In the end it the day meat is cheap and you can always recruit more, the main goal is to win the war. And yes it's XCOM, the RNG is built in but usually a good mix of talents, alien knowledge and positioning worth far more than relying praying to RNGus. -No more overwatch mechanic: good riddance. Overwatch was a bloated legacy mechanic that was used mainly to make staying still engaging. Overwatch is the equivalence of standing still with your head poking out waiting for something to pass; tactically you're just begging to get shot. Instead, if you still have AP saved at the end of the round, you will spend that AP automatically returning fire against enemies firing at you. CONS: -Gameplay cons: It's basically still XCOM, so if you found the percentage rolls infuriating this might not fully change your mind, that means you WILL miss 95% shots, sometimes in a row. Though unlike XCOM, this game will not lie to you where the misses go. So you will have instances where the game registers an 80% chance to hit for each bullet out of a 3x burst volleys, but if one bullet rolls bad it can literally veer in a direction that isn't anywhere forward and CAN kill your teammate. In pitch combat or close quarters you can have situations like your machine gunner inexplicably whipping his arms and shooting his LASER machine gun off the wall and suppressing himself, or your grenade launcher round leaving the barrel sideway like a ripened fruit and killed 3 of your own troops. It's a glorious slapstick of a combat roll system, it sometimes is pure laugh-out-loud comedy masquerading as a tactical game, and because it is so funny to fail, you learn to love the game exactly because of the silly RNG even if you hate the substance of it. Push comes to shove, remember that meat is extremely cheap in this game to just let you buff out 2-3 deaths per each larger ops, and you are encouraged to save scum anyway since the game knows death is sudden and warm bodies are plenty, so enjoy the ride. However, one grievance is that the game uses a top-down 2D line of sight system for percentage of hit, so even if there's a small pair of shoes (literally) between you aiming your gun and your target, that's automatically a -10% accuracy. Also as I mentioned before due to how the each shot are simulated independently, you tend to more likely shoot and destroy your own cover if you miss the shot. Seeing your sniper shot with a 90% chance to hit the enemy, but instead inexplicably decided to aim downward, destroy her own solid cover... Funny at first but that joke can get old after the 80th times telling it.
