Great Game! Getting better every year.
65 hours and I feel like I'm just getting started.
@320'isj hours, I have defeatet my first Xenon destroyer I. A massive attack from my defence stations subs and it melted like butter in the sun. This game gives many challanges, as you chose them. Military, exploration, construction, logistics and trade, a key to success I imagine.
I am an avid space game nerd, so a pure space sandbox like X4 is right up my ally. Like most games of it's size, it has bugs and glitches, little oddities, but if you like to be left to do whatever you want when you want, you can't beat the X franchise.
Great sandbox Space management game but weak endgame content
If you're looking for a game to give you a sense of scale, and a living space universe, this hits all the right notes. The things that impressed me from the small amount of the game I have explored so far have all been related to the world. The music is incredible. It really places you in the world, very atmospheric, and honestly pretty catchy. The sense of scale is amazing. Docking in space stations, walking around the docks, boarding larger ships, looking out on an Observation Deck, it all feels so huge. You are a tiny little speck amongst gargantuan creations. The skyboxes are really well done. Exploring new systems just to see its environment is always a treat, The overall atmosphere is what captured me, and has kept me playing so far. The living world is really what is unique about this game, and lends itself well to the sense of immersion. Seeing ships come and go, the organic battles and situations. The entire game running apart from you, again gives you the sense you are just a small part of this universe. The actual minute to minute gameplay is pretty slow paced, and methodical. Its less simulation like Elite: Dangerous, but it still has good physics and controls. But there is auto pilot, captains, auto docking, and many other things that make it so actually controlling your ship is less important. The graphics are really nice from afar, but kind of show its limitations up close. But it does the job well enough, especially considering all the other aspects of the game. The narrative missions are intriguing, I really enjoy the actual missions as a whole, but the writing for the dialogue and voice acting is something that could be far better. It isn't terrible, but it does show itself, especially with the janky animations of the characters. I am still playing this as of writing this, as there is so much more to the game that I haven't explored. I just started building stations, have gotten ships to start working for my stations, and starting to delve into the entire economy a bit more. But up until now, the exploration and smaller missions are worth the money alone. BONUS: native linux support is a massive W. Keep up the good work
The guidance/mission systems in this game are horrible. I went through all of the tutorials thought I had an okay grasp of the game and started one of the guided story lines. It was genuinely painful to progress. The voice "acting" was annoying and the missions were not well explained. I often didn't understand what the mission wanted me to do. But I know there are good systems in the game so I tried again this time with a assisted start. One the first real part of the mission I had three much better ships absolutely smoke me. Reload the save and successfully run away this time. Go on to the next part of the mission. I needed to plant a bomb, once again I get to the station and get 4 shot by a better ship. The assisted story line should give me some kind of indication that I need to come with better stuff. The game is complicated, that is a good thing, but the game needs much better in game guidance and starter missions for the player to get its footing. This game just makes me want to go back and play more Elite Dangerous.
One of the best space sims, and must have for fans of: 1) Spaceship combat. 2) Mining sims. 3) Trading sims. 4) Sandbox games. 5) RTS/Management games. I cannot recommend this game enough. Be the hero of the galaxy, or the worst thing to happen to it.
