First I need to address the elephant in the room: This is the second time in 4 months these devs have released this game into early access, the first one is still up for sale here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/989050/Greylaw_Season_1/ and is cheaper than on this store page. People who bought the original have to buy this version now if they want to keep receiving updates after the dev lied about giving them keys for this version. ***Now removed from steam at the developers request *** You can see the original store page by googling Steam Greylaw On the forums of the original store page you can clearly read the dev talking about creating a new page to help get rid of the negative reviews and mixed rating. - On creating a second store page for the same game - "our view: the game got all its reviews in the first week of launch pretty much. Every issue from then is now fixed, and it was our first experience with early access. Or releasing a game on steam. And people don't seem to change reviews once they're made, even if the game changes. Its eye opening" "Every issue from then is now fixed" - This is completely false! all of the original bugs from the original release still exist, most of which have existed since the day of original release back in February, such as players falling through the world upon loading a save game or entering a building and loading save games not working properly as it often wipes your inventory. All enemies and loot also reset. Literally the only change from the original version is the new starting FMV that incorporates the new game name. The devs have said they are also trying to get the original permanently removed from the store, but as soon as it is this new store page becomes a breach of steams rules, as they clearly state they will not allow a game that is closed/removed in early access to be re-released on Steam. Once Steam notice what is going on here I wouldn't be surprised if both games were removed by Steam for good. *** Seems like steam are fine with developers re-releasing their games multiple times into early access and using shady tactics like replacing the original games dev team name with a fake on etc *** The dev is claiming he wanted a new game name so made a new store page, but after choosing a similar name for the new store page (Wytchsun: Elleros Origins), he went and changed the game name on the original store page anyway (from Elleros Origins: Season 1 to Greylaw: Season 1) to hide it from search results, as he himself has stated in the forums. This clearly shows that if all the dev wanted was a new name there was never a need to make a new page. He also decided to change the developer name on the original store page to something random too, so if you click on the developer name on this store page you can't see that they have already released this game once before. Now he claims the first release wasn't actually a release and was a limited copy trial to attract investors etc. All of this was added to the original store page after he created this new page, months after the original released, plus Steam don't sell "limited copy releases" of any game, ever. Anyone can see the public change history of any games store page on Steam, just go and search for Greylaw and Wytchsun on steamdb and click on the histories tab in the bottom left, you can see what was changed and/or added to each page and when, like adding the lies about the original being a limited test to the original store page months after it was initially released. SidAlpha gets this information across quite well in his dirty devs video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3nF5CBGghc&t=5s All in all the dev has tried to dodge his negative reviews and mixed rating by creating a new store page and then tried to backtrack, lie and cover his tracks, not realising all of the changes he's made to the original to try and pull the wool over peoples eyes is public knowledge and easily viewable. Now the game itself: You know if it wasn't for the dev's shady behaviour in trying to bury the original store page and making a new one I would be on the fence about recommending this or not. There is a sizeable world with half decent graphics, looks like there could be a good few hours of gameplay to be had. There is still A LOT of work to be done for it to be an enjoyable experience however, the sound design is awful, from the message globe things to almost silent wolves attacking you from behind. The AI is very basic and doesn't provide any kind of fun engagement, combat is just as bad with attacks going straight through enemies without damage, attacks feeling weightless etc, the spells looked quite good, however they seem overly cumbersome to set up. Talking to people/things can end up leaving the dialogue on the screen and allowing to walk away, only way to get rid of the dialogue is to walk back to the npc and talk to them again, you can even accidentally attack the people you try and talk to as combat doesn't always get properly disabled. Lockpicking made my gamepad vibrate even though the gamepad doesn't work at all for the game. Starting the game loads SteamVR but it doesn't have VR capabilities at all. It needs serious optimisation as even with an 8core i7 and a 2080ti there was frequent major stuttering and pop in. It is literally the exact same game as the original release with nothing more than a new FMV at the start to incorporate the name change, all the same bugs from when it was first released back in February etc all still exist, next to nothing has been done on this since February. Overall its basically a poor Skyrim clone that needs a lot of work to make it fun, and i'm not sure a 2 man team can come close to pulling off what they describe on the store page. A bit too pricey for the quality at the moment, and the devs shenanigans with multiple store pages, changing names to hide from search results and this being this games second release I would have to say this is a hard no.
An Unpolished Game from Shady Devs
Would you rather watch than read? Me too. Check out the highlights of the gameplay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MECauOkBvSM You need to be aware right away of what the devs did in their previous title: The game was ORIGINALLY named "Greylaw: Season 1" until they got a bunch of mixed / negative reviews on the game. They then decided that in order to launch with a clean slate they would say that the "Greylaw" game was a trial run, and that it was being merged with the NEW title "WYTCHSUN" which is now this game. Both games were the same. They SAY that this game has all of the bugs fixed and everything is good, but that's not the case as you can see in my video review. Oh and the main title music is stolen from a Youtube video. **Edit, the dev claims that he knows the people in the Youtube video so it's totally fine that he takes their music. Onto the game itself: The game is fairly unpolished with combat that is jenky, blocks that don't seem to actually do anything, a spellbook that is awful to attempt to use and a system for opening your inventory and switching weapons that makes me want to eat glass. There is just so much here that needs a SIGNIFICANT coat of polish before it's EVER ready to be released that I absolutely in good faith cannot recommend that anyone pick up this game. Oh and one of my favorite "features" is that when you get to low health your character starts having seizures which make doing ANYTHING at that point an absolute chore, if you don't throw up from screenshake first.
Wytchsun: Elleros Origins
Even though Wytchsun is clouded in controversy it’s still a lot of fun to play, with plenty of content to satisfy the Elder Scrolls itch.
Pros:
👍Impressive graphics 👍 Quite a lot of existing content for an EA game.
Cons:
👎There seems to be some controversy over how the game was marketed which could influence future development. 👎it’s in an early development stage meaning there are a few bugs present and features still need to be added. 👎No controller support yet. 👎Map needs major improvements https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAG4hCgroyE
Short Analysis
First, I would recommend reading the discussion threads before you purchase. Please make up your own mind up about the marketing of this title. My review will solely be based on the game. If you are a fan of The Elder Scrolls series, then you’ll know what to expect with this title. Obviously, it is a long way away from being that polished, but it follows the same guidelines. The game has only just entered early access and already boasts a perfectly playable game with a surprising amount of content. I have played 15 hours and I estimate there’s another 15+ hours at least to complete my existing quests and explore the remaining areas. Combat needs improvement and is being examined by the developer. It is workable at present but feels unfinished and there are a few bugs here and there. Magic use is especially problematic and cumbersome to use. Initially combat is very difficult, and you feel overwhelmed with spawning skeletons and magic users. You will die a lot to begin with, so the manual save option is incredibly useful if you remember to use it! Successful combat relies on acquiring skill points. You gain skill points by defeating enemies, finding special books and completing quests. Once you gain points you can spend them on the skill tree and develop your character as you see fit. The game is open world, although you do start in a claustrophobic maze of tunnels, and you’ll freely be able to roam the different biomes within the beautiful land of Wytchsun. The area is quite vast with more development in process. There are a few different planes I have discovered through teleportation gates and the areas have lots of interesting ruins and buildings to explore. Your character walks quite fast and runs even faster so you will travel the areas quickly. There is a map, along with a compass system at the top of your screen showing you places of interest. The map is hand drawn and doesn’t really help you navigate. There is an option to toggle the map to fast travel where you can travel instantly to certain places you have already visited. You can also mark a waypoint on the map and use your compass to find it. I wasn’t convinced that any active quests were highlighted on the map resulting on them being difficult to find. I would have also like to have seen rumours of events, heard through character discussions, to be mapped. The crafting side needs developing completely. I haven’t been able to craft anything so far even though I have spent a couple of skill points on it. Trading is problematic until you get stronger and can carry more items. Initially you will find that you won’t have enough strength to carry items for trading and crafting. When you do find a trader at a village, he often doesn’t have enough gold to buy all your items anyway. Overall, I’m quite impressed with Wytchsun: Elleros Origins and I hope it can get its full development run. There is a 12-month development plan in place and hopefully this will be realized. There are a few minor irritations which you would expect in an EA game, but it has enough content and playability for you to jump in currently. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1780180344
Further analysis

Story
The story is a bit confusing and doesn’t really get developed in the game. Supposedly there is an extinction level event on the way, and you have a year to stop it from happening. From discussions with townsfolk nobody mentioned this event which you would have thought would have been playing on their minds! Apart from this there are quests to follow and a great deal of lore involved from reading books and parchments lying around within buildings and chests. I was impressed with the amount of reading you can do if you wish. The books often give you hints on how to handle future events or instructions on guilds etc.… but you must pick them up before you can read them which was annoying.
Gameplay:
🕹️ This mainly involves exploring, fighting, trading and crafting and is the same as you would find in similar games like The Elder Scrolls. Each enemy has a health bar which depletes as damage is inflicted but there are no damage points displayed as you attack so it is often difficult to know which weapon is best to use. Each weapon does display its hit points and other information in a very crude informational box, but this does not get upgraded when skill points are used, or weapons are upgraded. Magic requires a certain skill level and bizarrely uses a menu system to pick your spells during the fight. There are a variety of spells you can use but they are sometimes hard to inflict on enemies due to some of them moving so fast. Magic users move at breathtaking speeds and the only way to catch them is to run after them. You can trade at villages where you will find merchants of all varieties. There will be plenty of characters to converse with who can reveal rumours, quests and give you work. You’ll also be able to craft items like potions, improve weapons or buy better equipment. There is a menu system which tells you what ingredients you will need. There is a night and day cycle. There usually is no warning that nighttime is about to come. It just goes black. I haven’t yet found a means to light my way, but you can use a bedroll or stay at a tavern to wake up in the morning. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1772416137
Sound:
🎵 The music is pleasant to listen to, but it cuts in and out at awkward times and doesn’t fit well. Sometimes when you engage in conversation you can hear them speaking but other times, they are silent. Scattered throughout the lands are sound globes containing messages from fallen characters. Sometimes they are hard to understand over the hissing noises presumably trying to mimic white noise.
Graphics:
📺 Very beautiful landscapes which are reasonably varied and detailed. Cottages are quite similar in design and character’s faces need more detail.
Optimisation and bugs
The game is not optimized at all and therefore you will need a high spec PC to play this trouble free. All the settings are currently defaulted to ultra. I did experience a couple of game breaking bugs mostly involving touching orbs which sent me to weird places where I got stuck. There are numerous little bugs which the developer has asked us to report.
Conclusion
It’s an early access title so there are bound to be a lot of negatives in this review. That certainly doesn’t mean the game is bad at all. In fact, it’s quite enjoyable in its present state. I am hoping that the controversy behind the games marketing and its relationship with its previous game Greylaw Season 1 does not affect development. It's a nice game which with improvements could be great. Game seems kinda okay, has potential to be something great if the devs are willing to put the work in, but there's definitely a long way to go. Combat doesn't have any real weight to the hits, the UI gets pretty irritating quickly. The lore seems interesting at the very least, and the idea of character's corruption levels increasing as they interact with more otherworldly and dark objects is definitely something that seems interesting. I just hope the dev's don't just drop this after 6 months like so many other games in early access : ) ) ) ) ) ) But please, for the love of God change the sound for whenever you interact with the Sound Crystals, it's so jarring and breaks any sense of immersion.
Mark you asked for honest feedback. The game needs work. In fact you state that in the intro as you load up the game. I'll go down my list Pros: There is new content and a lot of hidden content if you take more than an hour before you decide to refund it. Combat is challenging (one con mitigation from shields don't seem to work maybe its a skill level) If your machine can handle the un optimization in graphics and models its actually quite good. Lots of quests, puzzles, crafting options, shops and NPCs to interact with. The open world is nice and does have a story and plot with side quests for coin. The V key gives you an option toggle between weapons. Many seemed to have missed that Nice special FX for spells. Cons -Motion blur needs to be turned off or an option -Some of the geometry mesh is missing collision. But at least that removed the "getting stuck" -Menu's between the journal, map, inventory need an escape option rather than hitting the same key to open them. -Reading through books is incorrectly marked for turning pages. -It appears to have a memory leak after playing for a period of time, the game does'nt crash but it definitely slows down rendering. -need an ability to turn down the sound for music -fast travel does'nt always appear on the map -the UI needs a bit of work as its not scaling correctly for every resolution. -NPC's need some path work, and combat should be disabled during dialog. I killed some nice folks trying to have a chat :) Overall for an early access game its a good starting point. I think if people are interested in a successful game its worth the $20 bucks to help support further development and the game has potential!
Oh sh.t here we go again, or how to add your game to steam early access twice. So first of all i strongly recomend you to visit this page on steam (Greylaw Season 1). So as you can see they are the same. So far, what i can say about this "game" trough 3+ hours in? Lets summarise. Positive: 1) Game is cheap (in my country its about 5$) 2) Game has pretty good visual quallity 3) Seems like some magic is okay 4) Lockpicking seems good 5) You can spawn your own skelleton army (press "o" to spawn) Negative: 1) Game look like they just bought some assets and put it randomly in the game 2) Fight system doesn't work 3) GUI - all interfaces isn't usable (look like someone made it in 2 mins) 4) You aren't able to ajust sound or music volume (HAHAHAHA it is 2019 baby!!) 5) Enemy's/NPC's spawn in 50 meters or even less and you practicly can see it 6) Penguins everywhere (WHAAAT???) 7) You can run like a FLASH 8) Enemy can run like a FLASH 9) You have not enough time to solve puzzles 10) This game has no atmosphere at all 11) Gravity - WTF? You can jump like you are on moon surface 12) You can spawn million skeletons using "O" button ( They are ready to conquier the world!) 13) You opened you inventory = mute/unmute sound 14) And tons other thing that need to be reworked (not sure if it could be. it could be better to create new game IMHO) 15) Glitching animations ( HEY ANDROMEDA!!!) 16) Well 5$ not great not terrible....actually terrible. 1$ not more! Its not ready at all even for early access. Strongly not recomend to buy it.
I can't understand all the negative reviews on this game. It's an indie game and it looks and plays like Skyrim. The graphics are AMAZING. I have seen a lot of indie games with arty farty s.k. hand drawn graphics and 2d pixelated games that get a lot of good reviews. I hate those games. For once, an indie developer makes a real 3d game with the best graphics and you are all negative. Why is that? I need games to play while waiting for Elder Scrolls VI and this is a REALLY GOOD indie gem. It's in early access so there are bugs, but I'm fine with that. I highly recommend this game!!!
While there is the basis for an okay game in there, the story is extremely generic and delivered in a telling not showing kind of way. The gameplay is straightforward hack and slash, but it is worse to play than Skyrim which is very old by now. The sound effects are all messed up and even though the game is voiced, the things people say in the game make very little sense. In addition to ALL of that, the developers released this game previously under a different name and only re-released it recently to get away from wholly justified criticism. That is not that way to do business, people. Polish your game...THEN release it...THEN make changes based on feedback. You never get a second chance at your release (even if you try to) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVVt6RtrSEw
I asked for a refund. I havent been able to get out of the intro. First time I fell off the world when i came to the cave. Was no reset/restart option. Second time I clicked [E] on the guard opening a dialogue menu. I couldnt get out of it, it was stuck on my screen. Not only that, they misspelled so much in the dialogue, for a game that costs this amount, not OK. The NPCs just stand there, gesturing. Makes no sense. There dialogue is so bad it actually made me sad. There is no life. I had no chance seeing the open world because i cant get past the intro. I would not recommend anyone buying this until its complete. It prolly has potential. But these small errors take away the ingame feel. The characters looks horrible aswell.
"At the request of the publisher, Wytchsun: Elleros Origins is unlisted on the Steam store and will not appear in search." That says it all folks. These guys are shady as he11. They'll rename it, repackage it, and resell it until it starts getting good ratings. It was a good idea, but the implementation is criminal. Wish I had refunded while I still could
