The game calls itself a "goomba simulator" because you don't control your character horizontal movement, but only its jumping and various abilities. It's amazing how such a seemingly simple concept can be made very interesting with clever level design and tight, pleasant gameplay. Big recommend!
Wunderling DX is a puzzle platfromer akin to something like super meat boy, but with the movement of an enemy- a goomba-esque creature whose movements are forced left/right walking. You gain the ability to jump, and later on, do more technical movement things. The design of the levels, and the gameplay was good, as new mechanics were introduced at a good rate- Enough that you understand how they work, but levels sometimes find new interactions with them. You get a lot of mileage out of a game where you walk left and right automatically. There is also some fun little player customization you get to change up your appearance. A nice QoL. I held off on playing this game for a long time due to it’s appearance, thinking it was some silly kids game, but I was wrong. It’s a decent-length game with the perfect level of challenge. Just going though the levels on their own is more on the easy side- the game is super forgiving with collectibles and checkpoints, so I highly recommend 100%ing every level before moving onto the next one to make more of a challenge. The hidden treasures have just enough clues that no walkthroughs or guides are needed to 100% the game, and it brings the game to around 7-9 hours to beat the game, and more hours with additional bonus levels for more content.(at the time of this review, I have unlocked the map to find the bonus levels but have not tried them yet) Only criticism is that all boss fights (except for one) are more cutscene than anything, and you just press a button and you just win the 'fight'. While I understand that the boss fights are more satirical in the theme of the story, it would have been nice if there was some- or more player agency involved with it. Overall, this game exceed my expectations on what it is about and I can recommend it to those looking into this, if they’re someone who enjoys puzzle platfromers.
KittaLing DX.
as good as i remember the original being on switch, with more content if you like thinky platformers which still require execution this is impossible to hate
Got hooked after one level.
