Was looking forward to trying this, thinking it was a type of game dev tycoon'ish game, but with an new and interesting theme... I didn't expect it to be "super" realistic.. but come on.. 23 weeks to write a weather article, and then having to "sleep" 11 weeks to get my energy back... and getting paid 90 dollars for 6 months work to try and save up for a new typewriter that gives a whopping +5% writing speed... all to win a popularity contest that cares nothing for quality, just how many jobs you complete...
In a room full of rivals with pens set ablaze, Writer’s Rush pulls you in with its literary maze. You tap out your tales in a frantic parade, Where each mini‑game is a duel you’ve just made. The charm is undeniable—quirky, absurd, A carnival built on the power of word. Its stories are many, its humor offbeat, A playground where deadlines and daydreams compete. Yet the balance wobbles, the pacing can tire, Some tasks feel more chore than creative fire. Bugs lurk in corners, the grind can repeat, And the Battle Royale stumbles over its feet. And truly, amid all this frantic ambition, A calm, cozy mode would have been a fine addition— A space to write slowly, without all the rush, Letting ideas unfold in a gentler hush. But when it works well, it’s a writer’s delight— A scrappy, chaotic, typewriter fight. Not perfect, not polished, but earnest in tone, A messy love letter to crafting your own. So if you crave chaos with literary flair, Writer’s Rush is a gamble—but one worth the dare.
My review of this game is very mixed, but overall, it averages out to a negative. Pros: The art is nice The mechanics are simple and, before the update, quite fun, if a bit repetitive. Cons: Feedback is lacking. There are sliders which dictate the quality of your book. But it truly feels random as to what sliders matter and how they will affect your book. This is especially true in Battle Royale mode. I was trying to 100% this game, but it just feels like banging my head against a wall. There is so little tangible feedback that it feels entirely random. One review criticised my fantasy pirate book, which was aimed at children, for it's lack of dialogue. How are you to know that dialogue is important for that book? And why is it important for that book? Do kids books need more dialogue? Or is it the fantasy genre that needs that? Or the pirates? How are you to know that it's more important than the plot or the setting? Especially when all those three aspects are at 33% each. How important is editing a book? What dictates when you do and don't get a focus point? In career mode, why does it take 20+ weeks to write a funny article about animals or gardening? Honestly, I have a lot of criticisms about the new career mode. It's pacing is atrocious, but real life editing is a fun addition. Writing articles, fanfiction and screenplays is a great concept too, but it all feels like busy work. I really want to like this. But now, especially after the last update, I don't think it's worth more than a couple of quid in a sale. There are better trial and error style games, like Potioncraft Simulator or Balatro. There are better job simulators, like Gave Dev Tycoon or Storyteller. 4/10

The price is not high, so I do not feel ripped off. But still I have to give this game a negative review after my experience. Even though I admire the devs bravery to come up with such an innovative topic for a game. It took me 11h to get to 85% of the achievements. 3 last hrs were for the battle royale achievement and that's the only time I had to do a restart as I got kicked out in round 5 the first try. You have to be aware that what you do in this game is very much constrained by the game itself. I can only speak for Career mode and battle royale mode, sandbox mode may feel different, but I do not see me playing it. I feel that I saw enough of the game. The game loop is seperated by levels/rounds in which the game exactly tells you what you have to do, what you can or cannot do. So in order to become a proficient writer you have to start texting ads, articles etc. The time mechanic feels especially off in this one as you have half a year or so to write a weather article. By doing tasks you will gain skills and if you do it right, well... you become unstoppable. My last 9 books were all a 10/10... I don't think that any choice I made about the plot could have potentially changed this. So in a way you never get enough feedback by the game, what works and what does not work... what effects did a choice about the plot, the plot/dialogue/setting-slider have at all. And at least I did not have the feeling at all to do something creative. It ends up to be very much repetitive. I was expecting something more creative, something that made me identify more with my character. Basically all the game you can see it in the screenshots. That's all you see... and this does not give me the vibes that I am an aspiring writer. Could I do it any than the devs or would I have better ideas to transport the topic? Maybe not... but it was not my choice to make this game. Still a compliment to the devs to at least try out this topic. I just felt that there would be better ways/games to spend my time during my whole playthrough. I would rate this game overall a 3/10
