This game has a great concept and a lot of fun ideas that implement learning a new language into an RPG. However, the game in it's current state is quite buggy and broken in many ways and there are a lot of problems even with the mechanics that function as intended. Some examples of this are; - The hitboxes of NPCs and certain objects in the world are huge for no reason and can block entire paths/stairs until you find the perfect invisible gap to squeeze through. This occurs quite often in the game and is very frustrating, often leading to reloading a save because you get outright stuck sometimes. - The combat is frustratingly repetitive and a lot of enemies have far too much health, making most random encounters boring slogs that don't really add much to the game. If the combat was more balanced or better yet, revamped completely this would be a far better game. Once I realized I could turn off random encounters. I began to enjoy the game a lot more. - Audio from one line of dialogue overlaps with the next when you skip through dialogue. - Inconsistencies with what words a character will ask you to translate vs what words the game actually prompts you to enter. - The 'speak' function to enter words using a microphone does not work well at all. - Sometimes the text will suddenly change to French for a sentence or two mid-conversation, before switching back to Spanish. - A lot of spelling errors. These are just the problems I can think of from the top of my head I'm sure there are more I am forgetting. All of that aside the game does have potential and some charm. I would love to see these problems fixed and for the game to continue to be improved upon by the devs. But as it stands now, I wouldn't recommend this game, certainly not for €25.
obviously i haven't played much. and the game seems okay at teaching spanish, BUT this uses a majority ai art, which is pretty disappointing and doesn't look very good.
I have really enjoyed this game, this is exactly what Ive been waiting for in a language learning game and Ive gotten more from this than anywhere else, I’m on my second play-through and still not bored, Im excited to see part 2 of the story and also where the community goes! 5/5
Honestly, WonderLang is such a clever idea! I’ve always strugled with sticking to language apps (tried dualinguo, babbel, etc...), but this game makes learning Spanish so much more fun. It’s like playing an RPG where you’re also picking up vocabulary and phrases without even realizing it. The story is cute and I actually feel like I’m making progress. If you love games and want to learn something new, give it a try!
I'm still playing, but am really enjoying the game. There are a few bugs here and there, but overall I'm really excited for the future of this game. I think more learning games should be like this, it's addictive.
I got wonderlang spanish for the summer steam sale. I had heard about it on reddit, but I did not try it earlier because it is not very famous, very few reviews. also some reviews were complaining about bugs. I did not face any. I see many updates so the devs have probably solved them. although it sometimes feels bit clunky, but nothing that is a real issue for me. It can be expected from this type of small indie games. Actually, I find it very good so far. I tried duolinguo before, and this is completly different. You play an rpg but the gameplay is focused on teaching you words and grammar. Almost all dialogues with npcs are in spanish, and you get introduced to new words like this. The quests require you to learn new words or think in spanish to solve them. I played around 6 hours and I did not see the time pass by but I feel I improved a bit for sure. although I already know a bit of spanish, I took 1 year in school, but it was a long time ago. It is gratifying to use spanish and realize you understand dialogues and quests. You can practice writing and also speaking. I like that you get explanations on the sentences you see and some grammar rules. Duolinguo don't explain anything, I know I need to understand a bit how the language works or it frustrates me. I recommend it if duolinguo got too boring for you and want to practice and learn spanish.
I’ve been playing WonderLang Spanish for around 5 hours, and it’s a fun way to practice. The game is fun and feels like a real rpg, but you are actually learning as you play. There are lots of challenges to keep you engaged. It’s not just about memorizing words. There’s a mix of quests and dialogues that really help you think in Spanish. I especially like how the vocabulary is introduced in context, so it sticks better. If you want a creative way to improve your Spanish, try this game!
This game is woke, it has pronouns in it. I was a bit hesitant to get this game because of the lack of reviews, but I'm really glad I did. I'm only a few hours in and I've already learned and retained quite a bit. It does have some bugs (worst being that speech input doesn't really work currently) but I haven't found any to be game breaking so far. My biggest issue with the game is the artist(s) using AI pictures as references but at least it doesn't include them directly in the game.
¡El español es el idioma del futuro!
I got the spanish version of wonderlang cause my girlfriend’s family speaks spanish and i wanted to actually follow what’s going on at dinner. it's been a really good way to practice. you learn words during npc convos and then use them in quests, so it feels like you're picking stuff up naturally. the spaced repetition battles help too, they drill stuff in without feeling like flashcards. i like how the game doesn't throw too much at you at once. things show up when you need them and it sticks better that way. feels more like playing a game than studying. i’ve been doing a little every night and it’s actually working. after that i ended up buying the polyglot version during a sale. now my gf and i are learning japanese together since we both watch a lot of anime and we want to go to japan someday. it's been fun, and a cool way to study together without just sitting in front of a textbook. honestly, if you like games and want to learn a language, this just works.
