Developer asked me to retry, and I still come to the same conclusion. They seem to have removed the introduction to each character, there's one line of dialog of generic "oh hi character, kbai" and that's that I guess, They added a map and way to see where each character is on the map as they move around. Which is an improvement. You seem to move quicker than I remember, certainly fast enough to catch up to NPCs. However, the world is still laid out really big and empty still and feels like there's no real reason for it early on. I'd rather it start small and build bigger later so you don't have to roam around to each NPC across this big map. I just don't see them revamping the game's entire structure. Given they couldn't update the intro. They didn't change the dumb intro. You still are inside your house when you start, then escorted out and told "this is your house and this is your yard!" Well yeah, you were INSIDE IT. That just boggles my mind. Just have the NPC lead your character from outside your fenced in yard to your yard and then into the house. That makes more sense. I don't get why they left that like that. It's just bizarre to me. Maybe your character has short term memory loss. I did do a bit more crafting. You do quests and tasks (pick up trash, harvest, etc) to get different types of points that are used to unlock more options. It has improved in a few ways, but it's still not for me. I'd say if you're curious enough at least try it yourself, it's not as frustrating as it was the first go around 2 years ago, but still not fun for me. But everyone is different. - original review - i wanted to like it, but it's just so painfully boring. And the first quest really shows how needed a map is and how tediously slow your movement is. Introducing yourself to all the characters shouldn't be a chore, yet it was. I didn't even managed to find them all. Some redhaired person walked in a room with only one exit, I follow them in and they aren't there. Never saw them again. Even if I did, you move the same speed as the NPCs so you can't catch up to them. Maybe if they just upped the movement speed it wouldn't feel so boring, that combined with the size of the areas... most of which is empty, seemingly unnecessary space is just not a fun experience. To be fair, I didn't get deep into the crafting before I bailed on the game. It also made me laugh that the intro is of you exiting your house to be shown your property for the first time. How did you get inside? Did they blindfold you and dump you inside? Teleporter? Why didn't the NPC who shows you your property just walk you from some kind of bus station to the farm or something? That would make sense. Or just don't frame it as you seeing your farm/house for the first time when you were already inside it. Strange. Conceptually I like the idea of NPCs being based on historical figures, but they have no personality to start [maybe they will later]. They just info dump about who they are, but it's a weird structure for conversation. You don't meet somebody and then start talking to them about working on the atomic bomb and what negative implications that could have or just start talking about racism in the medical field in x year. They just tell you about the real person outright, rather than act like a character. Given the game goes out of it's way to say it's not necessarily historically accurate, go a bit more cartoony with the personalities and have a system where once you get to know them they talk about their work history. Make it similar to the person it's based on, don't limit yourself so much when you've already admitted it's not going to be entirely based on them [likely for legal reasons]. It's just odd, nothing in it worked for me.

When getting into it, there is a lot of political bias/agenda. I won't speak for everyone, but me personally I don't want that stuff thrown down my throat in a game, I get enough of that in the real world. I play games as an escape. I really wanted to like this game, but I could not. Hi Ben, I will admit the pronoun choice thew me a curve ball, but it only took me a couple seconds to get over it and felt it was a good choice. It seemed the few characters I talked to were all "pro" something. I loved the programming aspect of it being a software engineer, I spent most of my time going through that tutorial and beating all of those levels and then spent the rest of the time trying to complete the first quest and as I was talking to people it just felt like I was walking down town getting pamphlets handed to me that I didn't want to read. I loved other farming games and picked this one up because of the automation/programming aspect, I'll keep an eye on it as I really love games that offer that.
🎮 WoMen in Science 🎮
Also sehr umfangreich! A science-themed farming sim with lots of references to real life scientists. Information • Game involves: farming, foraging, collecting, cooking, crafting, animal caretaking, raising NPC affection, puzzle mini-game, science trivia • No combat. • No romance. Praises • Myth busting/debunking references. • Lots of science puns and jokes. • Video game references too, of course. • Trans representation. • Autistic representation. • Decent diversity overall. • Puzzle mini-game is actually really satisfying to figure out. Several levels to complete. • Science trivia is interesting and fun. To be honest, I got quite a few wrong at first. (Pop culture has done humanity a great disservice in teaching us lies.) • Parody character of Elon Musk. • Can build a robot dog. Complaints • Technical issue: Potted plants in the greenhouse can’t be placed against the wall or next to each other, because when a harvest is done, sometimes the items get stuck within the wall or the neighboring pot. • Technical issue: A chicken got stuck in one spot within the coop for the entire game. It was still happy as though it were eating and living normally though. • While the game page claims it has full controller support, that’s technically not true. There a few situations where a mouse must be used. Also, anything requiring precision needs the mouse because the controller’s input is too clunky. • No overall story at all. • End goals are for achievements only. • Not a fan of the title; it’s weird. Especially since it reinforces the gender binary. I just don’t see the point in bringing up gender at all when the game is just about people in science. Nothing in the game really draws attention to whether someone is a woman/man or not, with the exception of a trans character and that’s extremely brief. • A few typos. Normally, a lack of story would earn a game a negative review from me, but given that the price is $4, I’m totally willing to forgive it this time. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much at all because of the low cost of the game, but there’s surprisingly more to it than you’d think. I was expecting something even more casual, but there’s plenty of things to do in the game. It’s a nice, little game for killing time if you don’t mind playing something you won’t take too seriously. I certainly appreciated all the science references, but that’s a more personal taste. I recommend it given that the game is more than what it’s worth.
It feels like Stardew Valley. It plays like Stardew Valley. It is charming like Stardew Valley. But it is NOT Stardew Valley, but something really nice. Welcome to „WoMen IN SCIENCE“!!! To say it in one Phrase for those who know Stardew Valley: „WoMen IN SCIENCE“is a wonderfull Nerd Version of Stardew Valley. The Developer took the Stardew Vally Concept and wrapped it in a new Garment. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2845186686 You start with nearly nothing in the Game. You are the new owner of a House in a Community of Scientists. In the Beginning the Game helps you with easy Quests to learn about the Mechanics. Meet the other Scientists, a total of 20 and talk with them, learn about them, too, about what they like or not, who they like or not , create friendships. Your main Goal ist to raise your Farm and use the Help of Science like Drones to keep it running. Have an eye on your environment and avoid pollution. While you do this you are able to raise special Abilitys like Biotechnology, Robotik and so much more, that will appreciable help you. Yes, you are able to build Robots later in this Game and there are also little Events like Drone Racing or Quiz with the Community, depending on special Days in a Week. You are also able to explore the Areas to find useful things or also Secrets. And yes, you can also build Stables and have Animals. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2845187210 Oh yes, you have to care of them and also don´t forget the Irrigation of your Plants. Feels boring after a Time? Then let Drones do your work. Don´t forget, it is Science Stardew Valley. It is all up to you, what you like to do. Farming, building, cooking, exploring and so much more. And that in a really charmed Graphic Style and Soundsetting. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2845186564 To make one thing clear. „WoMen IN SCIENCE“ is NO Copy of Stardew Valley, even i fit feels so much like it. It is well thought out new Experience where the Developer put very much Passion and Heart into it. It is a Homage, a bow to a great Game and it is a consistent further Developement of a beloved Genre. It is still Early Access and the Developer is working hard on it and listening to the Community to create a great Gaming Experience for Everyone. Thank you for inviting me to your World, Ben. You have created something nice here. A wonderfull Game, not only for Stardew Valley Fans, for an absolut fair price for what you get. WoMen in Science does really need more attention. You should have a look at it. Thank you for Reading. I bought this games because it reminded me of Stardew Valley, but has a more up to date style (computer lab/scientific stuff) When I read the reviews someone said that this game was "leftist, woke" What I saw in this game had none of those qualities, I guess when you're represented in all things, you don't know how it feels when you are finally represented in some. The only thing I noticed was the Pronoun choice in the beginning of the game which didn't bother me at all. I like the bot game using the Scratch type programming style. This game is great for us nerdy types that don't want to fight anything. I like Stardew but I'm not a combat game person and it seems that every game has to have some type of combat in it. Every crafting, farming or anything else has combat. I just want a relaxing game and so far this game has given that. I don't know what this game has in store, it might have some combat that I don't know about yet since I've only played for less than 2 hours. There seems to be a decent amount of content so far, can't wait to see how much better this game will get in time.
Spiritfarer.

WoMen in Science allows players to join a community of talented scientists, automate tasks and program robots amongst other things as they build and customise their own farm, striving to maintain both the environment and productivity. Overall, WoMen in Science has a lot to offer. The gameplay is varied and engaging whilst also being very relaxing, this is further emphasised by the charming aesthetic and sound design. There are enough different things to do and build, skills to learn, places to explore and people to meet to keep players entertained for a long time. "WoMen in Science" is at face value, a cheap mobile-tier ripoff of Stardew Valley only not as good. Where this LGBTQ+ friendly game differentiates is (only slightly) better graphics (only because it's not pixelcrap), and a loosely science themed twist, as well as some different kinds of minigames, as well as much worse storytelling. I suppose one of the best ways to encourage women to engage more in STEM would be to avoid making crap mobile app garbage pandering (badly) to women in science and dump it on Steam instead of the app stores. This game, as far as I can see, is the equivalent of enticing women into Computer Science by making pink keyboards. Mission failed, I guess. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The game features simple, cartoony 2D graphics, of the type you normally expect to see in low effort mobile apps. 3D graphics programming does require a degree of skill and competence and unfortunately not all developers have the budget or talent to deliver this, despite 3D graphics cards hitting the mainstream in the 1990's. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing. This looks and feels like a mobile app, but it doesn't seem to have made it to the app stores. It's unclear why this was put on Steam instead of the app stores it seems to have been designed for. Maybe it was removed, maybe it was rejected by Apple and Google (they do have more rigorous quality standards than Valve does for Steam, after all). Regardless, for all intents and purposes "WoMen in Science" might as well be a mobile app, it has the same limitations and dumbed down qualities. It's impossible to recommend such a game to PC gamers. We don't spend all this money building gaming rigs so we can pretend they're iPhones and play games that might as well be mobile apps. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. "WoMen in Science" didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for chopping down 5 trees (very environmentally friendly), trivial to get, but less than 25 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game. The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a modest spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. "WoMen in Science" has the ridiculous price of around $4 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam. This is also competing with over 9,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
