Experienced on the Oculus Rift
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program. You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/sJnNhtewJhY I really liked Witching Tower. So I had high expectations when I got offered a free Steam key to review this game. Then I played the game and my exuberance soon gave way to despair. My original goal was to play at least two hours before reviewing the game. I could barely play one. It honestly felt like work and that ain't good. This is a combat wave shooter / melee game. You have four different sets of weapons with different strengths & weaknesses. You have the sword & shield, bow & arrow, magic wand & healing item, and the drill & pistol. Some of them also have special abilities, such as the bow & arrow being able to shoot ice arrows that slow down enemies or fire arrows that explode. You have 4 different wave levels. You can play on easy (normal), normal (hard), or hard (actually hard) difficulty. You kill all the enemies and then the next wave starts. You can switch off weapons if you go back to the starting spawn area. You can click a button to switch weapons from right to left-handed. There is full locomotion and smooth turning. You can also choose teleportation. There's also different graphical & sound settings. The game ran fine for me, even on epic, on my 1060 GTX. The problem with the game is that combat is just too basic and the enemy AI is too dumb. There's just nothing fun about the combat, even though there are weapons with different abilities & special attacks and enemies with varying attacks. The only difficulty in the game is just the sheer amount of enemies on the battle field. In the heat of battle, I couldn't tell whether I had connected with a an enemy or if the enemy had died. The game ran smoothly. I didn't experience any major bugs. However, it did seem like on the magic wand that the weapon angle was too low by default. Also, there was hit box and collision detection issues, along with clipping through objects. This game does seems like it was meant for online coop play with the synergy that having all 4 weapons together on the battle field would have. However, online coop is currently not available. Rate 4/10. I know it only costs $8, but I just didn't have any fun. Maybe when they add online coop it may be fun in a group, but as is, I can't recommend it.

The visuals in the screenshots were not taken from in-game footage, they are substantially more basic in the game. In fact the visuals even at ultra settings are blocky with low quality textures. Animations are simple. Basic collision detection, the enemy are like ghosts with your sword strikes and you passing cleanly through them. Use teleport movement as the free locomotion is useless, it's a snails pace is required rapidly navigate the map which is very much a requirement. Any redeeming features, no! The gameplay is really dull so I'm skipping a bunch of other general fails as I can't be bothered to waste my time. And you shouldn't either. Game is in early access but there is nothing present that impressed there will be anything better to come here. INSTANT REFUND.
Game received from ViveVR groups curator program see bottom of review to join. Video Gameplay https://youtu.be/LFR600G_bB4?t=2415 Ok, I liked the witching tower when it was released and had high hopes for this one. Now this is a totally different animal it's a Fantasy action game that boils down to destroy certain objects and survive the waves of enemies. It is fun, has a selection of four weapon sets each bringing something different to the game. I imagine this is mainly for when the MP part is finished and you can load up with three other players all doing your part to survive the mission. Problem is the single player is frustrating at times and the weapons need more weight added to them. Firing the pistol feels weak and you really have no idea what you're hitting. The drill though is awesome and I'd love just two of them instead. They have limited ammo or over heat so you have to be wise to what you're using as the waves of enemies are thick and fast. The other weapon choices are the sword and shield warrior, the mage with staff and health and the bow with different types of arrows. There does not seem to be leveling up at this stage or bonus extras. You do get health from killing the demons. It would be way more fun in MP with a team of you combating the enemies and really this is all this game should be. It's really a slasher as you just don't have time for stratargy or thinking. You die and respawn but that just speeds up the demons mission. Graphically it's ok, has that antialising blur and the animations are fine. It is ok and priced right it just needs the MP part and co-op with other players will make this game a whole lot more fun. Also some work on the number of enemies and the maps could be bigger. There are only three maps atm and due to the size you could tire of them rather quickly. Anyway I'm recommending on the MP being implemented and the future of the game. Right now it's very close to a not recommend and only the reasonable price has saved it. + Price? - Waveshooter-esque - Not very immersive. - Boring Gameplay. - Terrible Swordplay 1/5 I try to find something positive to say about every game I review. At the current stage of EA that this game is in, I just can't really find anything positive to say about it. It's swordplay is bad, it's random drill weapon is bad, the actual game play is like a mix of the worst VR game type to exist - Wave shooters. Combined with something that wants to be a Hack and Slash RPG, without the leveling up or fun elements. The swordplay is nonexistent, there's no collision or anything that makes you feel like you're actually having a sword fight. --- I'll play through the entirety of this when it gets fully released, and re-review it. But until then I just cannot reccomend it. Needs a bit of work. Pretty basic game play with under powered feeling weapons. Bow and arrow is fun as heck but just under powered. The drill and pistol thing is just a busted design, in my opinion. It isn't fun at all. The sword and board is fun. But there is no haptic feedback as of yet so it just feels like you are swinging through the air... but, the game is early access.
This game did not have a lot a content even with the small price tag. 3 levels is hardly what I would call a complete game as you can essentially "complete" this game in less than an hour. That being said, I had a lot of fun during my first play through. While I didn't like the wand and the drill was really weird, the bow was so much fun! I have yet to try the game on nightmare mode but I would be interested to see how hard this game can be. The thing we need to remember is that this is in Early Access, and for a game that is cheap and still under development I can still recommend this game. It will have Online Co-op at some point which I can see being really enjoyable with some strategy coming into play. Once you have beaten the whole game you can still go back and try to beat your times and place on the global leaderboards. I encourage you to check the Early Access notes from the devs and see what they are planning. If they include more maps and game modes then this game could be a huge success. Keep in mind that the price of this game will likely increase in the future as more content is added. I have high hopes for this game but I understand it won't be for everyone. If you are looking for a story driven game then this is certainly not for you.
Witching Tower was really good, but this has nothign to do with it. It's a bad wave "shooter", with no progression, and only 3 maps. There's 4 sets of weapons : - Sword and shield : can't use it because if you move your sword to attack, or your shield to block, you'll move randomly to follow where you're hand is pointing at. - Wand and potion : can't use it either because the wand has a really weird angle - Gun and drill : can use it but really bad, the gun is more like a shotgun with the reach of a sword, and both weapons have cd (gun needs to reload after a few shots, and drill overheat) - Bow : The only good weapon, but like in most VR games with bows, it's broken, since you can just spam arrows Even for free, it wouldn't be fun. If you want something similar but better and free, try Trickster VR
Since Witching Tower was such a great puzzle game, when this came along I grabbed it. Very little innovation here. Just a wave fighting game, nothing to get excited about...I would pass (but do grab Witching Tower).
неинтересная бессюжетная арена. С первой Witching Tower не сравнится
