Unfortunately I reached a point where I can no longer continue the game. The platforming got too complicated and hard for me. Still the game gets a positive review from me. It does everything someone would expect from a Metroidvania and it does it nicely. The characters are fun, the voicing is really good. The bosses are challenging and took me quite some tries. The skill and weapon systems are not too complicated but still engaging enough to try different playstyles. And I like the graphic and art style very much. The only negative thing I have to mentioned (beside the platforming being way too difficult for me) is the music. I turned it off pretty soon, because it was very monotonous and making me drowsy. This game could really need some epic soundtracks, at least for the boss battles.
The game really surprised me in a good way. The first thing that grabbed my attention was the art — it’s genuinely beautiful. The environments, characters, and overall style feel fresh and thoughtfully crafted. The music and sound effects also fit the world perfectly, making the game feel alive and immersive. Even the menu and UI look clean and polished. The enemy designs stand out too, and the whole gameplay concept has a lot of promise. As a regular gamer, I genuinely enjoyed exploring the world and taking in the visuals. You can clearly see the passion and effort the team has put into this game, and that’s what makes it feel special. I’m excited to see how it grows from here.
Had a whole lot of fun while playing Winds of Arcana. Well made game from Brewed Games. Looking forward to updates and more games from them! The game has a great foundation with its art style, exploration, and combat potential. The developers seem to be actively working on patches to address the reported bugs and improve performance which is great to see. Definitely a promising title for Metroidvania fans.
Winds of Arcana: Ruination – Honest Review from a Game Dev Student I really enjoyed my time with this game, especially as someone studying Game Development with a focus on UI/UX and Level Design. The art style immediately grabbed my attention — it gave me a mix of Prince of Persia vibes blended with a touch of Valorant-style design. The environments, props, and overall artistic direction are genuinely impressive. The music, SFX, and general atmosphere also fit the world nicely. However, while the visuals and foundation are strong, the gameplay and UI still need some polish to give players a clearer and smoother experience. Pros Beautiful art direction and strong character/cutscene illustrations Great main menu presentation and UI aesthetics Good sound effects and audio atmosphere Gameplay concept has potential and feels inspired by classic action adventures The controller recommendation screen is clean and well-made Enemy designs are interesting and unique Areas that Need Improvement Lack of clear story introduction: The game starts suddenly without explaining why the character is there or what the main objective is. UI navigation issues: The Story button doesn’t highlight properly, and controller navigation has no feedback. Important UI elements should be enabled by default: Player damage, enemy damage, enemy health bars, etc., are hidden behind settings and should be automatically ON to help players understand combat. Some settings don’t work: Controller vibration and screen shake do not function even when enabled. Missing gameplay guidance: The UI doesn’t help players understand where to go or what to do next. Platforming issues: Sometimes the character clips into walls when jumping + sprinting. Difficulty spikes: Certain areas with spikes feel too punishing for early players. Final Thoughts The game has a beautiful art team, a great foundation, and tons of potential. With better UI feedback, clearer storytelling, and fixes to some mechanics, this could become a very solid action-adventure experience. I’m giving this review with full respect to the developers, hoping it helps the game improve — because there is something special here, and I’d love to see it polished further. Excited to see future updates!
