About
Windrose is a survival adventure set in an alternative Age of Piracy. It features the classic “build, craft, survive” formula along with intense combat and engaging exploration on land and sea.
Progress through vast procedurally generated biomes filled with hidden mysteries, hand-crafted dungeons and quests. Gather your crew and captain your ship through brutal naval combat with boarding actions and seamless transitions between ship and shore.
Defeat challenging bosses on your swashbuckling adventure driven by real-world characters and supernatural forces alike.
Every legend begins with a reckless crossing.
You are a captain who dares to challenge Blackbeard. What begins as a grounded story of survival and revenge draws you into a growing conflict between empires, pirate clans, and mysterious dark powers looming on the horizon. Windrose is steeped in the allure of the Age of Piracy.
Answer the call of the seas and move seamlessly between ship and shore. Naval combat is shaped by your decisions, whether you’re trading cannon fire at range or closing in for fierce boarding actions. Equip and customize your ship to suit your playstyle, from nimble ketch to versatile brig and monstrous frigate. And when the cannons go silent, claim your spoils and share a sea shanty with your crew as you sail onward.
Establish a foothold in vibrant, diverse biomes, gather resources, and build to your own taste, from simple shelters to elaborate mansions and fully developed forts. Recruit NPCs and grow your settlement to speed up harvesting and production.
This world belongs to the brave and the curious, so venture into the uncharted lands. Over 100 hand-crafted dungeons and points of interest contain endless secrets and treasures, though such rewards rarely come without risk. Trade with different factions to gain the edge you’ll need.
Hack, slash, batter, and shoot your way forward! Master a wide arsenal of melee weapons and firearms. Parry and dodge enemy attacks, chain different strikes, and keep an eye out for new gear, including sabers, rapiers, halberds, greatswords, pistols, muskets, and more.
Shape your combat style through talents and flexible loadouts with unique armor sets. Use food and potions to gain powerful buffs. Test your skills against a wide range of enemies and challenging bosses, defeat them, and claim their treasures.
Windrose is fully playable solo offline or in co-op with friends, supporting up to 8 players, with both self-hosted and dedicated servers available. Procedural generation will make each journey stand out. Please note: due to performance, especially in the late game, we recommend to play in the party up to 4 players for the optimal experience.

lOVE THIE GAME
The mechanics are smooth, the buildings not having limits on where to build or how high to build is great, being out on the ocean feels amazing especially with the crew singing. And this is one of a small handful of games that not only does gender not matter but you can change the gender of your character freely without loosing progression or needing an alt, and as a genderfluid individual that is actually a really big thing to me.
I love this game, and have 80 hours of playtime, now. I have played through it first with friends on normal difficulty, now I am doing a solo playtrough on easy. Normal is pretty difficult, but if you remember to set a spawnpoint on each new isle, youll be fine. Easy is a more chill experience with far fewer deaths. I enjoy the building aspects, cou can build some amazing houses, one of my friends build a stonefort, another a chill holiday hut with all the plants. The naval combat feels smooth, too. The scenery is beautiful, clear blue oceans and golden beaches. There are quests, but self directed exploring is an essential part of gameplay. You will have to gather resources, and collect things for progress, it takes many resources to upgrade armor and weapons and build beautiful living spaces. So if you like pirates, and resource gathering, and difficult combat, and beautiful ocean views, try it out, it's well worth the price in my opinion. If that did not convince you: -your character can have all the tattoos (and they can be fat, rare option, that) -you can costomize your ships -you can cook and do alchemy -the people you hire will walk around your base, sleep, chill on chairs or work on things -you can decorate your space with pictures, funiture and different building materials -you can board enemy ships and subdue the crew - getting a really good angle with your cannons is very satisfying -you can have a pig friend fight for you (personally waiting for an update to have a combat crocodile)
Should have been called "Mediocrity & Wannabe", because thats everything it is. What an overhyped mess of a game and if i could i would ask for a refund of my money and my time. It is the most basic and mediocre survival game ive played in the past ten years, with issues literally everywhere, down to the fundamental conceptual level. And that for no less than 30 bucks... And in the past two months since its release the developers worked additional (but useless) ships and more outfits that look the same as every other outfit the game already has, instead of polishing systems, fixing bugs or implementing basic features. What paints a grim picture of the priorities of these developers. Early Access is not an excuse for a game with no vision. And i dont see how this is ever going to be a game worth more than 20 bucks. Right now. 15 bucks might already be questionable at best for what you get. Literally play anything else. The "pirate"-element is so borderline irrelevant in here, that it could as well not exist. You gonna play 95% on land and 95% of your progress happens through activities on land. The moment ship combats starts picking up with your second and third ship, there is barely any reason left to engage with it anymore. Honestly, just play Black Flag (doesnt matter if original or remake) or even Skull and Bones if you want to play a game about Ships of the Age of Sail. (the latter literally costs a tenth of Windroses pricetag these days)
Great game, 👍🏻 for developing this game. Loved absolute everything about the game en looking forward to the updates 🤘🏻
