About
Windrose is a survival adventure set in an alternative Age of Piracy. It features the classic “build, craft, survive” formula along with intense combat and engaging exploration on land and sea.
Progress through vast procedurally generated biomes filled with hidden mysteries, hand-crafted dungeons and quests. Gather your crew and captain your ship through brutal naval combat with boarding actions and seamless transitions between ship and shore.
Defeat challenging bosses on your swashbuckling adventure driven by real-world characters and supernatural forces alike.
Every legend begins with a reckless crossing.
You are a captain who dares to challenge Blackbeard. What begins as a grounded story of survival and revenge draws you into a growing conflict between empires, pirate clans, and mysterious dark powers looming on the horizon. Windrose is steeped in the allure of the Age of Piracy.
Answer the call of the seas and move seamlessly between ship and shore. Naval combat is shaped by your decisions, whether you’re trading cannon fire at range or closing in for fierce boarding actions. Equip and customize your ship to suit your playstyle, from nimble ketch to versatile brig and monstrous frigate. And when the cannons go silent, claim your spoils and share a sea shanty with your crew as you sail onward.
Establish a foothold in vibrant, diverse biomes, gather resources, and build to your own taste, from simple shelters to elaborate mansions and fully developed forts. Recruit NPCs and grow your settlement to speed up harvesting and production.
This world belongs to the brave and the curious, so venture into the uncharted lands. Over 100 hand-crafted dungeons and points of interest contain endless secrets and treasures, though such rewards rarely come without risk. Trade with different factions to gain the edge you’ll need.
Hack, slash, batter, and shoot your way forward! Master a wide arsenal of melee weapons and firearms. Parry and dodge enemy attacks, chain different strikes, and keep an eye out for new gear, including sabers, rapiers, halberds, greatswords, pistols, muskets, and more.
Shape your combat style through talents and flexible loadouts with unique armor sets. Use food and potions to gain powerful buffs. Test your skills against a wide range of enemies and challenging bosses, defeat them, and claim their treasures.
Windrose is fully playable solo offline or in co-op with friends, supporting up to 8 players, with both self-hosted and dedicated servers available. Procedural generation will make each journey stand out. Please note: due to performance, especially in the late game, we recommend to play in the party up to 4 players for the optimal experience.

this game is basic. not really exciting. more of a chore than fun. combat is hard, which is fine if the combat mechanics didnt suck
great game just need sharks in the water and maybe for fishing as well , and possible treasure hunts under the water and a way to stay under water with out drowning ,just food for thought
Amazing, a very well done combinaison of many game types. Love it.
Lækkert hygge, find nogen venner eller en klan og spille med :)
Great game if you like sea of thieves, assassins creed black flag or midieval dynasty, lots content and exploration
# **Windrose (PC) Review – A Pirate Adventure That Finally Gets the Fantasy Right** There have been countless attempts to capture the magic of being a pirate, but few have truly nailed the feeling of charting unknown waters, building your own legend, and battling both nature and supernatural horrors. **Windrose** comes closer than most. While still in Early Access, it already delivers one of the most immersive pirate survival experiences available on PC, blending open-world exploration, challenging combat, crafting, and naval warfare into an addictive adventure that constantly tempts you to sail "just one more island." From the moment you step aboard your first ship, Windrose understands what pirate fans have wanted for years. The seas are vast, storms are intimidating, and every distant island promises treasure—or death. ## The Good ### A World That Begs to Be Explored The greatest strength of Windrose is its atmosphere. Dense jungles, haunted ruins, hidden caves, and mysterious islands make exploration genuinely exciting. Every voyage feels like setting sail into the unknown rather than simply moving between map markers. Dynamic weather, crashing waves, and an impressive day-night cycle create an incredible sense of immersion. Critics have also praised the game's handcrafted points of interest and environmental design as standout features. ### Naval Gameplay Feels Fantastic Your ship isn't just transportation—it's your home, your weapon, and your greatest investment. Sailing feels rewarding, and upgrading to larger vessels creates a satisfying sense of progression. Naval combat is approachable while still delivering cinematic moments filled with cannon fire, boarding actions, and desperate escapes. Although some reviewers feel ship combat still has room to grow, the core mechanics provide a strong foundation. ### Survival Without the Tedium Unlike many survival games that bury players beneath constant hunger meters and inventory micromanagement, Windrose keeps its systems enjoyable. Crafting feels meaningful, base-building offers creative freedom, and food acts as a helpful buff rather than a relentless punishment, allowing players to focus on exploration instead of maintenance. ### Excellent Audio Design One of the game's most memorable features is its soundscape. The ambient effects, crashing waves, thunderous storms, and especially the sea shanties performed by your crew breathe life into every voyage. Few games capture the romance of sailing quite like Windrose does. --- ## The Bad ### Ground Combat Can Be Brutal Combat borrows heavily from Soulslike design, emphasizing stamina management, blocking, and careful timing. While rewarding once mastered, it can feel unforgiving early on and occasionally frustrating when fighting multiple enemies at once. Some encounters overwhelm players more through enemy numbers than tactical challenge. ### Performance Still Needs Polish Being an Early Access title, optimization isn't perfect. Some players report memory leaks, occasional frame drops while exploring, and performance hiccups during multiplayer sessions. Thankfully, crashes appear relatively uncommon, and the developers continue improving stability. ### Solo Players May Feel the Grind Although completely playable alone, Windrose clearly shines in cooperative play. Resource gathering, base construction, and long voyages become significantly more enjoyable when shared with friends. Solo players may eventually notice repetitive exploration loops and slower progression. ### Early Access Means Incomplete Content While there's already dozens of hours of gameplay, some systems—particularly naval mechanics, progression, and endgame content—are still evolving. Upcoming updates are expected to expand the world with new regions, ships, and gameplay improvements. --- ## Final Verdict **Windrose isn't a finished masterpiece—but it absolutely feels like one in the making.** It succeeds where many pirate games have failed by making the journey itself exciting. Every island offers discovery, every ship upgrade feels earned, and every voyage tells its own story. The combination of survival mechanics, exploration, naval combat, and atmospheric world-building creates a pirate fantasy that's difficult to put down. Its flaws are impossible to ignore. Ground combat occasionally becomes frustrating, optimization still needs work, and some gameplay loops can become repetitive over long sessions. But these shortcomings are outweighed by an incredibly solid foundation and developers who appear committed to expanding and refining the experience. If you've been searching for a game that captures the spirit of **Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag**, **Valheim**, and **Sea of Thieves** while carving out its own identity, **Windrose** is well worth boarding. ## Score: **8.8/10** ### Pros * Gorgeous, atmospheric open world * Excellent exploration and discovery * Engaging ship progression and sailing * Fun survival and crafting systems * Fantastic audio and memorable sea shanties * Strong cooperative gameplay ### Cons * Difficult, sometimes frustrating ground combat * Performance optimization still needs work * Repetitive solo progression * Some systems remain unfinished due to Early Access **Bottom Line:** Windrose is already one of the most promising pirate survival games on PC. While rough around the edges, its immersive world and rewarding gameplay make it an easy recommendation for fans of open-world adventures and cooperative survival games.
It's an OK game. It feels a bit railroaded. There is not much to do besides kicking blackbeards ass and build your base. It's a little boring that the only ships sailing on the seas... is yours and blackbeards fleet. I wish there were neutral ships, belonging to different factions that did not attack you on sight but you could choose to attack and maybe risk losing favor with that faction. I also built a massive coastal fort... really cool... but one thing bothered me alot. Why did I build it? It's not like Im ever gonna have to defend it. It would be cool if you actually had to defend your base sometimes. Also cool if you could design your ships interior. Make it a floating base with bed and a small workbench and stuff. Maybe all this will be possible in the future... hopse so. Its a bit content lacking right now.
