TLDR: Please do not buy this and support their dishonest practices. This is a money grab.
Character Creation
You sign in and are presented with a massive character creation screen where you can pick from 5 faces, one hair style (and bald) and skin tone. There are no facial sliders, no hair color selections, no eye color adjustments. Oh and you have to play as a man as being a woman is locked? Very odd design choice and a wonderful way to drive away half of the gaming population. So what you end up with is every new character looking exactly the same. They all have the same hair, all have one of 5 faces. Here is the full character creation screen. Once created I get to a party screen where I could group up with friends but since they weren't foolish enough to buy this I am playing alone. I also notice several broken UI Elements.
Getting Started
So once you get in you get presented with the alpha version of the game. First you may notice that you are just standing in the middle of a town. If you weren't paying attention to the loading screen that showed you the commands, you're SOL. There is no tutorial, no initial quests, nothing. It just throws you into a town doesn't tell you how to draw your gun or even where to go to get started. There is just something in the upper left that says UI_HUD_TownReward.. That's helpful.... So I look at my map and I see a cabin in the distance and it says something about it being used for crafting and fast travel. This sounds great so I head over there only to be shot by some guy sitting outside the town (level 43 running in a group of 4 guys) This is outside of the STARTER TOWN and within 1 hour of the steam release. I eventually sneak out of the town avoiding the gank squad and finally make it to the cabin so that I won't have to respawn in the town and I can try to play the game. Boy was I wrong... Upon reaching the cabin, I get presented with this screen So I can find these keys in camps and chests? but no indication of where these things are. Note that this costs 10 cabin keys this will be important later.
Something happens!
While mining a nearby metal deposit it (not sure why but it was something to do) something pops up on the screen that there is a stagecoach that is being raided by bandits. Great! something to do/shoot at! When I get there there are a bunch of players running around on horses shooting at eachother. No NPC bandits or anything, just players being asshats. As I am a level one guy (still right outside the starting town) I of course get shot in the face by some high level with a rifle. Boy that was exhilarating! So I spawn back in the town and notice that my weapon had now taken damage and notice that you need to buy specific items to repair it. Let's head to the gunsmith to fix it. Oh... all but one of the repair items are sold out. Same goes for campsites... All sold out.
Graphics Sound and Game Design
I decide that's enough of this and sign out since there is absolutely no direction or guidance. Definitely not an MMO the "world" is humorously small. This entire "MMO World" is smaller than many of the maps in SQUAD. To write this review I had to boot it up again to get a few more screenshots and suddenly I am in an entirely different area of the map. I'm not even in a town just in the wilderness. Not only is this immersion breaking, it's hilariously nonsensical. Was my character roaming around while I was offline? I disconnect from the server. There is no exit button there so you have to pick a character to sign in as first then you can quit the game (wonderful game design. The graphics look pretty good if it had been released in 2006. Animations are not fluid and I'm 90% sure the person who did the horse animation as never seen a living animal move before. resource gathering nodes look like some sort of standard asset poking out of the ground. When you hit it with the pickaxe it makes a hilarious plink sound that sounds like stock footage. Servers must be running on a potato since it shows that the number of players are low yet they are both one star for ping.
World of Microtransactions
Now for the criminal part of this game... the microtransactions. Before clicking the play button there are a few options at the top. First is a special items offer. Next is a community marketplace that isn't implemented. And then is the store. It greets you with their premium currency called treasury notes. You get 250 for $4.99, 450 for $8.99. But they really want you to buy their $24.99 (on sale for $19.99) or $69.99 (on sale for $49.99) packs. I'm going to refer to these as TN for the sake of brevity. The remainder of this section is going to correlate these in game objects to their real world cost using the 250 for $4.99 number (rounded to $5 because it's easier to say $1 for every 50 notes). Keep in mind the size of packs you can by are almost always slightly less than what you want to buy. For example we have vault slots which cost 488 ($9.76) for the lowest one. But the closest treasury pack to that is only 450 ($9). So it forces you to buy the larger pack (888 for $15). Tell me that isn't intenteional to make the item 38 notes higher than the pack size. IIn fact every other pack costs a number divisible by 5 except for this one. hmm where to begin... had this game since 2nd stage of tech testing. thankfully one of my followers bought it for me, i feel bad he spent 80 dollars on the game. ok so lets get into the meat of the game shall we? when it was first released in ea, it was stated this game would be an open world mmo, with pvp AND pve aspects. along the way that changed, there is almost zero pve content, yes there are chase quest, but doi9ng them you can get killed by other players, there is crafting, but only to make things for pvp. you can buy houses, but to decorate them you need to pay real cash or use what you get from the beginning. they put a cash shop in early access.... not sure the reason for it. the hit boxes are meh to wtf. there are no anmials, and they play to put them in one spot called the hunting grounds, so if you need to do a quest you run there and take your chance getting killed. nothing happens to you if you pk, so there really is no worries. the economy is crazy it costs more to buy apples then you get from handing in gold...... it literally takes about 45 minutes to cover the whole map... its very small. the lag issue is real in the game, there are several exploits also. along with some pretty crazy hack (feel free to search a bit, not going to promote hacks or people hacking). this game is a basic br clone of others with cowboy (and indian later...maybe) skins. you can customize your outfits (again with the starter bags) and real cash. i wont get into the garbage you get from them just to try and get the look you want. anytime a company decides to put in a cash shop early it makes me very nervous. lets get into the devs and mods and forums now. alot of things have been and are promised... very few have been followed up on. there are some people saying hey be patient its a small dev company (if you see the 2 pages on their website, they throw out some big name games their devs worked on). they opend a forum but do the majority of any news goes to another site. they had a few mods at the start that were 50/50, meaning they didnt take the companies side nor did they take the players side, they did their job (as much as they could). the dev team decided they needed some mods for damage control and insterted 2 ( one of which a few people including myself think he is a dev) yes men. they rule over the forums with a very heavy hand any negative posts (even if its to help the dev team) usually gets squashed within a day. one of the mods (he claims its joking) belittles people that disagree with him, but is very quick to implement bans on others for doing the same towards him. all in all this game had HUGE potential, but for some reason the dev team decided to make a clone of a br. adding the cash shop drove a few players away. continuing to use tactics simular to a ww2 dictaor on the forums drives others away. would i buy this game? NOPE. there is so little content, the updates are always late, and by late im talking 2 weeks to months. there is no transperancy, there is very little communication. there are way to many simular things to make it scream cash grab. ultamitely its your money and its your choice, but i hope this review helped you a little. sorry for the typos
Don't let the play time fool you, I bought into this during the Alpha Access period. And barely anything has changed in that time. It went from "Only cosmetic items will be in the cash shop" during the alpha/beta to "Oh and XP boosters" when it came to steam. No music outside the title song. Things that they claimed WOULD be in the game at " launch" such as female player characters are not there. This fact alone leads me to this: This game IS Early Access despite them pretending it isn't, and the fact they delete forum posts saying as much does not make them look respectable. About 4 PvP events, and a bunch of "Gather X Items you might get in less than an hour with a lot of luck" PvE missions.Animations are amateur at best. And practically all the "screenshots" on the store page are marketing lies not reflective of the actual product. Nice water effects though, and the scenary is decent, if you ignore the frequent floating grass and rocks. The game DOES have potential, but it needs WAY better developers than it has to make that a reality. Oh, and the devs are actively begging for positive reviews.
DO NOT BUY! Let me start out by saying i backed this game from the very beginning and was incredibly excited, however come to find out nothing from their "hype" gameplay video was actually in the game and still isnt nearly a year later. I asked for a refund after 1 week of playing and continued to ask for my refund that the devs promised was 100% guarunteed several times only to have them keep delaying to process until finnally i get an email that says "your refund timeframe expired" $60 down the drain... Not only do they expect $30 bucks they also have micro transactions and a pay to win system. Do not buy from these scummy devs... Wait till RDR2 comes out to get a real wild west online game.
The WarZ - Wild West Edition This game is an absolute disgrace! cash grab and false advertising. Stay away! if you want more info just google "sergey titov wild west online" and you will find a very detailed reddit post. Devs also delete any negative posts from the forums and even one of their mods asked for people to leave positive reviews specifically to counteract the negative ones: https://gyazo.com/335058614247abece1454c334f0bce02 If you really wanna try it, wait for it to go free to play.
I joined the Wild West Online community and started Playing November 22nd 2017, and played every day, My main character is Pink, following the Steam release, I have played 659 hours, as an active member of the official community, I endeavoured at all times to be polite and constructive with my criticisms, with regard to the development, unfortunately the owners of this game have no moral compass, they are not interested in producing a game for enjoyment, they are only interested in taking money under false pretences, they have lied, and will no doubt continue to lie, they will delete any incriminating posts on their forum, and they will ban you if you complain, the direction of the game will change, and to quote MrBlack (Nick, the leading member of the development team, and forum administrator) "We're not worried about Steam at the moment to be honest. And on Steam it will not be called "Frontier" (The New name for Wild West Online) Steam is a small part of the game community in general, even for WWO it was a small part, and outside PUBG, most hugely popular games are not on Steam anyways" This game is a sham, the people behind it are dishonest, if you do download the free version of this game, please do not pay for any content, it is only cosmetic, and after a few hours playing you will uninstall the game, and you will have saved yourself some money, and hopefully stopped charlatans such as these blighting the gaming industry. You may wonder why it has take so long for me to write a review, I will tell you, I have wanted this game to succeed, but there comes a time when you must say "enough is enough" stop these people stealing money.
Is this game worth playing at all in its current state? No. But does it show potential? Also no. I've been playing this game since the first Alpha, and had very high hopes. I wanted a western game so bad that I probably stuck with this game longer than any sane person would. The devs really showed their asses with this Steam release, and solidified the game's fate as a steaming pile of dog ****. Everything the devs do screams "cash grab." They are either incompentent morons at best, or sly con artists at worst. Every change they've made since Alpha, has been against the general population's consent. You guys like the outlaw/ sheriff gameplay? Okay, we'll get rid of that. Yall want full/ partial loot? Yeah, we'll get rid of that too. Yall don't want factions, and would rather have player made guilds/gangs? Nah, we'll give you factions. And of course there are now a million loopholes/ exploits to "game the game" so capturing towns is completely pointless as is the rest of the game. Lost a town? No problem, just hop on your alt on the other faction to collect the reward, seeing is all characters on an account have a shared wallet and shared global inventory. This game has absolutely no direction, objective, or purpose to it whatsoever. You literally just go around shooting people on the opposite faction for no reason. When you kill, there is no gain, and when you die, there is no loss. Sure, running around killing people can be fun... for about an hour or until you realize there are better shooter games out there. And btw, this game is NOT an MMO by any stretch of the imagination. It is a very primitive 3rd/1st person shooter game. The "pve" in this game is so trash/ pointless that the only reason they put it in at all, was so that they could put a "check in the box" and say "Look at us! We have PVE stuff too!" Now, you might be asking yourself, "But what about some of the positive reviews? Sure there aren't many, but if they could find something interesting or fun about the game, then maybe I could too?" Let me put it this way. The only people who enjoy playing this game are people that would be just as happy playing with a ball of yarn. The positive reviews would go as such: "Wow, this ball of yarn is so entertaining! You can unwind it, wind it back up, bounce it on the ground sort of, and roll it across the floor. I mean there's just so much you can do! It also comes in red, green, blue, and yellow. I even heard they are coming out with pink and purple next patch! 10/10 recommended!" Now lets talk about the devs for a second. They are possibly the worst dev team in the history of ever. 1. Communication? Rare. 2. Patches? Few and faaaaar between. 3. Patch notes? Rare and hard to find. 4. Listening to community and progressing the game in a good and productive manner? Not at all. 5. Advertising and hyping up the game to sound 100x better than it actually is? 10/10 amazing job. In Conclusion: Looking for a good MMORPG? Don't buy this game. Looking for a good shooter? Don't buy this game. Looking for a good Western game? Don't buy this game. WWO fails in every measurable aspect of gaming. DO NOT BUY!
It happened. Probably happened to you too. I got scammed. I haven't been scammed this bad since War Z. I bought into this game believing what the devs were saying. Believing that they would continue working on the game. Believing that they would fulfill their promises. I believed it when they said they aren't tied into the same War Z dev team and this isn't a scam. I was a fool. It's incredibly disappointing because I really wanted to enjoy this game. Nothing would make me happier than a Red Dead Redemption style MMO. A time period that isn't often captured in gaming but has so MUCH depth to it. I was lied to. I was scammed. Don't buy this game. For the record... the lead admin last logged into THEIR OWN forum August 16th. A month ago. He last posted in July. The devs have not answered any threads or replied to anyone on the Steam forums. This game should be pulled from the store.
Pro: A wild west game Large map to explore A game where you can team up with friends or guildmates A easy crafting system to learn Could be something different and good BUT Cons: NOTHING TO DO AT ALL GAME IS DESIGNED FOR HIGHER LEVEL TOONS ONLY ( 100% nothing nothing to do in the game as a low level toon except getting shot and trolled by higher levels ), most things to do if you can get there must be level 15 or higher Takes way way way to long to level up per level Game hasn't been out for that long, but, somehow has level 50 and 100 toons ( how did they get there so fast, might have some cheating going on ) Chat window 100% DOES NOT WORK nor can you whisper anyone including folks you team up with GAME NOT FINISHED 100% BUT THEY CLAIMED IT IS Very limited toon designer and NO GIRL TOONS Lots of lag and rubberbanding also you will get stuck on EVERY rock in the game 100% a micro transaction game EVERYTHING COSTS REAL MONEY Getting shot by higher levels with better guns everywhere you go ( all one shotters ) Higher levels camping towns and houses that you buy with real money just to shoot you as soon as you leave them Takes to many mats to craft one thing also must be level 15 ( exp=10 ore just to make one metal bar ) also takes to long to mine the ore, stone, gold, etc. etc. . Just to get shot by some camper waiting for you to do all the work and you get nothing. Can't complete any crafting because one of the key elements are not in the game ( exp=need crafting chemicals but crafting chemicals DOES NOT EXIST ) ALL weapons cost to much in game money to buy and MUST be level 15 to start getting better weapons ( starting gun sucks a55 100% ) Only one quest in the game, make birthday cake, but, the things you need to complete it DOES NOT EXIST ( EXP=need oranges and blueberries which DOES NOT EXIST ) Can not fix weapons at all due to the fact the very things you need to fix them DON'T EXIST Can only pick one of two factions at which EVERYWHERE you go you will get shot by the other faction ( fun but annoying at times ) also when your faction mates are bandits then can shoot you even though your in same faction When you help your faction mates rob stagecoachs, rob banks or take over towns since they are bandits they will shoot you after it even after you help them out ( low levels toons are NOT welcomed ) I could go on and on but that would take to long to type it all out. I really really like the ideal of a old west game, but, in it's current state I wouldn't recommend this game. I know it's a new game (all new games has bugs), but, it ain't finished in ANY way. Hopefully it will get better as time goes on.
Be Warned! This Game seems to be dead. Both Servers (yes, there was just 2 Servers!) are down and the developers runs off. You cant play WWO anymore, all you will see is the menu. Steam should finally remove the game. MY SUGGESTION: DONT BUY IT!
