About
*STEAM DECK and PROTON users please note that a build is available in an accessible beta branch for testing
This game is my homage to Trade Wars 2002, a text/ANSI graphic based multiplayer space-trading game from the '80s/90s that I've tried to recreate the core concept and look and feel faithfully without being an exact clone, and also inspired by the computer UI's from science-fiction films/TV shows of the '70s and '80s with wireframe graphics and all caps text. I hope for those of you that play, who know what I'm talking about, it will bring back some nice memories for you, and those of you who don't, I hope you enjoy what the vision of the future in the '80s looked like.
Made with love and care to bring a modern touch to the old style with respect.
Every session begins the same way: you, a Merchant Scout, and a galaxy full of opportunity. What happens next is up to you.
WHAT CREATORS ARE SAYING
"I don't have any complaints, which is very rare. Everything is tasteful, everything is tacked the hell down, everything is squared away..." - SplatterCatGaming
A LIVING GALAXY
▸ 2,000 sectors, procedurally rewired every run. No two galaxies are the same.
▸ A five-zone economy that reacts to supply, demand, distance, and sudden shocks like mining collapses and tech embargoes.
▸ Epoch shifts every 2,000 turns: pirate uprisings, trade booms, and faction wars across six eras before the Final Epoch locks in.
▸ Ten alien powers with capitals, patrols, and long memories. Hail any ship for intel, buy off a hostile captain, or demand a surrender, and watch your reputation open doors or close them.
▸ Strange readings emerge as you travel: distress beacons, fuel caches, convoys, and gravity wells, each a branching arrival incident with real stakes.
▸ Establish Colonies to grow your empire and provide resources to help you climb from Recruit to Admiral.
COMBAT AND CONTRACTS
▸ Tactical Combat, a real-time duel of phases, stances, and a momentum meter either alone or with wingmen where one mid-battle call can bury you.
▸ Fleet Combat, for when brawls get really big and have all your hired captains firing beside you, calling for an entirely different set of strategies to use.
▸ Work the faction bounty board: pirate hunts, patrol sweeps, cargo runs, and named targets or work the other side of the fence and accept missions for the Black Market.
BUILD YOUR FLAGSHIP & FLEET
▸ Eleven ship classes, from a Courier that outruns trouble to a Dreadnought that ends it.
▸ Customize your ship with weapon, defense, and utility upgrades.
▸ Hire AI captains and post them to guard, patrol, trade, or follow, up to a fleet of twenty-five.
FIVE PATHS. FIVE ENDGAMES.
▸ Trader, navigate and dominate the galactic market.
▸ Warrior, wiping the scourge of pirates from the map.
▸ Explorer, the map filled corner to corner.
▸ Diplomat, every great power calling you ally.
▸ Settler, a frontier stitched with your colonies.
THE PRECURSOR MYSTERY
▸ Discover the remnants of long vanished alien civilizations and their legacy.
▸ Chase their clues through the anomalies they left behind: scan-down gauntlets where the right choices pay out in rare loot and permanent edges.
TUNE THE TERMINAL
Make your own perfect vision of the '80s.
▸ Eight customizable CRT presets, with fine tunable settings that can make the game a crisp flat panel to a full retro burn pixellated vintage throwback.
▸ Customizable UI to make it as spartan as a '70s terminal to a glorious '90s effects display.
LOCALIZATION
▸ Japanese planned for the Early Access release.
▸ French, and German shortly after.

Reviews
Loving this so far. It brings back such great memories of TradeWars and nails the feel and gameplay, all while updating it with 40 years worth of game design evolution and refinement. Can't wait to dig into this more (and without the daily turn limits, and the modem disconnecting from the BBS when someone picked up the phone)! I'll update my review as I play more, but already I can see how the deviations from the original will increase the gameplay depth and fix some of the few shortcomings of the original inspiration.
In Warp to Sector One, the main gameplay loop involves warping to new sectors to explore them, finding ports and checking their prices on Ore, Organics, and Equipment, identifying profitable trade routes, and then flying back and forth buying and selling for as long as it remains possible and profitable to do so. If you run into pirates, you can fight them in turn-based battles where you choose a stance (Aggressive, Balanced, Defensive, or Evasive), manage heat, and can optionally use fighters in a number of formations or perform utility actions like repairing or targeting the enemy's weapons or engines. There's a sort of paper-rock-scissors aspect to it, but there's also a notification at the top of the screen saying basically, "Enemy will play rock - play paper", so I've never lost a fight against pirates. You can hire captains to escort you, guard locations, or trade automatically, and colonize planets by sending down colonists and paying a startup fee, and they'll produce Ore, Organics, or Equipment for you automatically. The game also includes diplomacy, missions, buying new ships and upgrading the current one. Overall, I feel like the game does everything ok, but it doesn't really present any challenge, and very little depth to any of its mechanics. Making money while trading is trivially easy - with only three resources you can often find adjacent ports that will each buy what the other is selling and just ping-pong between them until they're out. In combat, you just do what the indicator tells you to do, and although you could do something else, you don't really have enough information to know the effect of each option. It's not a bad game, and I have no doubt it will become better, but after a couple of hours, I feel like you've seen all there is to see.
A huge potential for this indie title. Roadmap looks packed and realistic. Art direction is right down my alley. This is a worthy addition to any space game library.
Of what I've played so far, pretty good. What you see in the demo, will give you a pretty good idea of how the game is. Though iirc it doesn't really show what the ship upgrades are like, but basically you have module slots, and you buy modules to put in it. A lot of them are tradeoff style though, you pick something to boost, and weaken something else a little. Like a combat ship doesn't need that much cargo space, or if you have a string of colonies with fuel stations, then being a little more fuel inefficient doesn't matter that much. And yeah, your colonies have upgrade slots too, though these are more pure upgrades, taking into account they have upkeep costs. Early game grind doesn't seem that bad. I did a few trade loops that I was fortunate to get where it's just 2 jumps either way, and I managed to get myself a Merchant Cruiser. Which seems like a good jack of all trades ship. Now it feels like I can more or less do what I want. Or at least it no longer feels like I have to scrape for everything.
Fun and well made from what I've seen so far. Been waiting for a game like this for a long while. Excited to see more of it and for features yet to come!
Seems pretty fun so far! Will post more as i play more
Highly reccommend this space indie game in your library. It gives you Oregon Trail in space vibes, while also serenating you with it's in game music ambience. The ability to type in code or point and click gives you a strong feeling of being at the helm of your own spacecraft!
game is good but is missing some basic conquering gameplay : - expansion- you can colonise some planets but your empire does not expand , you can raid enemy faction colonies but you are not able to wipe them to 0 to make them neutral and available to you to colonize and expand your borders . NPC factions expand but you cant and this is some big minus that I hope will be resolved asap. Overall game is good and i will back to it when more update is done.
