About
Warhounds is a turn-based tactical & strategy game, inspired by XCOM and Jagged Alliance, about a mercenary squad with an old-school action movie vibe. Command an elite team of bold, stylish operators, wage a campaign in an alternate-future Africa, and decide the war’s outcome mission by mission.
Calculate lines of fire and flank angle, break cover, and seize the high ground. Every turn is decided more by your planning and tactics, less - by RNG.
Combine classes: Assault, Specialist, Sniper, Machine Gunner, and Grenadier. Pick the right gear for the job, treat and extract, and protect key operatives. Take calculated risks. High combat lethality makes every decision count.
Recruit, upgrade, purchase equipment, and handle logistics, finances, medical supplies, and downtime. Choose allied factions, build relationships, gather intel, and execute covert ops. Your choices have consequences: your decisions determine your access to missions, gear, and allies.
Deploy drones, combat scanners, smoke, and optical camo. Upgrade and improve your kit to win under any conditions.
Knock out a mission in 25-40 minutes, or settle in for a long session. Customize the challenge: go for a brutal tactical hell or a light, relaxing run.
No point-blank misses - flank + close distance = 100% hit chance.
Real ballistics, destructible cover, vertical gameplay, and cone overwatch.
Mercenaries with character and mission-focused loadouts without any busywork.
Base management, contracts, budgets, allies, and consequences for your actions.
Assemble your squad. Take the contract. Decide Africa’s future beyond 2035.

Reviews
expected nothing but it turns out pretty decent. a bit rough around the edges but i really like this action movie vibe here
Boring and bad

i had a lot of fun with this great turn based game
My current opinion after spending enough time with it: Probably Not a masterpiece. Not an XCOM killer. But a genuinely fun tactical game with its own little quirks. Must have for tactical fans. Maybe on a discount
Could have been descent, unfortunately having to restart missions over and over again from the start due to bugs killed it for me. It really sucks when you near the end of a mission and suddenly the game freezes during enemy turn and there is nothing you can do but restart the mission
I recommend this game! The developers have openly said they were inspired by Jagged Alliance and XCOM. There's actually very little Jagged Alliance influence here—mostly just the mercenary theme and the interactions between soldiers during battles. Everything else is XCOM. It doesn't just take inspiration from it; it copies almost the whole formula. There are very few original ideas. I finished the story in 45.5 hours on Normal difficulty with a relaxed playstyle. Pros: - Tactical combat is the heart of games like this, and this one absolutely nails it. It's incredibly fun, and the pacing and flow of battles feel great. The combination of cover mechanics and Overwatch works really well. - The graphics are pleasant, and the maps are nicely designed. - Environmental assets are reused less often than in the XCOM games, which makes the maps feel more varied. - The environment is destructible, and that meaningfully affects your tactical decisions. - The hit chance system is much better than in the XCOM games. Cons: - In many places, the game feels unfinished. - You can only build drones in the Workstation. - The drones are rather weak and not very useful. On top of that, they don't look very good either. - The character pathfinding often looks really stupid. - The equipment system is heavily simplified, just like in XCOM. - A lot of the equipment is completely useless and serves no real purpose. - The AI often behaves very illogically. - The allied AI, however, is always terrible. Some of the things they do are downright embarrassing. - Quite a few times, the game crashed with an error message while loading. Fortunately, it auto-saves everywhere, so I never had to worry about losing progress because of it. - The missions become repetitive after a while. There are no twists or meaningful variations. - The story is a bit weak. Despite all its flaws, this is a really good game, especially considering it's from such an unknown development team. If you enjoy turn-based combat, you won't be disappointed. The combat system works so well that it makes you overlook many of the game's flaws. I highly recommend everyone give it a try. Unfortunately, there isn't much replay value, but it was still a good experience overall.
Hot take maybe, but I think Warhounds is a better tactical game than Star Wars Zero Company. Not the better looking game. Not the bigger game. The better tactics. And after all the hotfixes made here - right now Warhounds has better performance and less bugs comparing to ZC 😂
