About
Warhounds is a turn-based tactical & strategy game, inspired by XCOM and Jagged Alliance, about a mercenary squad with an old-school action movie vibe. Command an elite team of bold, stylish operators, wage a campaign in an alternate-future Africa, and decide the war’s outcome mission by mission.
Calculate lines of fire and flank angle, break cover, and seize the high ground. Every turn is decided more by your planning and tactics, less - by RNG.
Combine classes: Assault, Specialist, Sniper, Machine Gunner, and Grenadier. Pick the right gear for the job, treat and extract, and protect key operatives. Take calculated risks. High combat lethality makes every decision count.
Recruit, upgrade, purchase equipment, and handle logistics, finances, medical supplies, and downtime. Choose allied factions, build relationships, gather intel, and execute covert ops. Your choices have consequences: your decisions determine your access to missions, gear, and allies.
Deploy drones, combat scanners, smoke, and optical camo. Upgrade and improve your kit to win under any conditions.
Knock out a mission in 25-40 minutes, or settle in for a long session. Customize the challenge: go for a brutal tactical hell or a light, relaxing run.
No point-blank misses - flank + close distance = 100% hit chance.
Real ballistics, destructible cover, vertical gameplay, and cone overwatch.
Mercenaries with character and mission-focused loadouts without any busywork.
Base management, contracts, budgets, allies, and consequences for your actions.
Assemble your squad. Take the contract. Decide Africa’s future beyond 2035.

Reviews
I'm still early in the game, but I'm enjoying it so far. I think some of the negative reviews aren't being entirely fair. You shouldn't expect XCOM-level polish at this price point, so let's be reasonable. The XCOM and Jagged Alliance inspirations are obvious. That said, the game does fall short of how clean XCOM looks, despite the age gap between them. Compared to JA, the mercs feel pretty generic so far — the game hasn't produced those unique, lovable characters JA was known for (think Ivan or Fidel), and I don't think that's just a "too early in the game" issue. What bothered me most was that the game gave off a white/Western supremacist vibe at times. I felt a bit offended on behalf of the African nations portrayed. I'm fairly sure it wasn't intentional, but it still came across that way. Despite all that, the core game loop is fun, and so are the missions. The thing that bothered me the most is that I got a white/ western supremacist vibe from the game. I felt slightly offended on behalf of the African nations involved. I'm pretty sure it was not intended however it still came off that way. Despite all this, the game loop is fun and so are the missions.

Honestly passing on this game. I love the Xcom Phenoix Point.... but their is way to much Cover, Snipers feel horribly week, each mission simply becomes a slog. Tasers wear off after a single turn, meaning you have to charge that machine gunner to get into melee range with two people. The enemy will hit you from cover, while you will miss over and over again with repeated turns.... A shotgunner can shoot two floors up and hit my sniper on the top of a building, but the sniper can hit him cause he is somehow in cover. Hate the fact that I cant choose what classes to train people as. Hate the fact that all the dialogue that happens is only connected with the starting characters and non of your recurits can bother to say anything. Then I learn that their are veteran recruits that have skills that simply make them better. Why can't I make the troops I train into a Vertan? All in all just lot of little things that are making the game seem rather unfun.
Once the bugs and frequent crashes are fixed, this will be a great strategy games. One of my favorites for 2026
The game spends 45 minutes of my time explaining what a cover system is and how to use grenades. I've played XCOM. I've played Jagged Alliance. I've played enough tactics games to understand that standing in the middle of a road is generally considered bad for your health. But It took me a few missions to stop playing it like XCOM and start actually thinking about the new system.
This game can be much much better than Wages of War - Business of Battles. Really fun to play to kill times.

I went into this expecting the usual “we have XCOM at home” situation, and honestly… yeah, XCOM is definitely at home. But it’s actually a pretty comfortable home. The cover system is familiar, movement makes sense, and the combat has that satisfying “okay, just ONE more mission” problem. The cone-shaped overwatch took me a little while to get used to. At first I was like “why is my soldier staring directly at the guy he is supposed to shoot?” Then I realized positioning actually matters. Revolutionary concept: the soldier needs to look at the enemy. Who knew. Definitely needs more polish, but the foundation is solid.
