If you like Grey Knights, this is the Grey Knightyest of Grey Knight games. Boy howdy.
Felt compelled to review since I see some recent negative reviews. I'm not sure why because this game is fantastic. If you like 40k and Turn Based...this game is quite to the point and incredibly fun. The story is compelling as well. Good variety of units and tough fights that feel fulfilling when/if you win. Do not sleep on this game and I truly hope the devs release DLC or sequel. The Emperor provides...i hope!
Hard but good fun
Jak by to się nazywało Chaos Gate imperial guard to tak . Dlaczego jednostki w pancerzach go nie posiadają.
A turn based action-strategy game with high difficulty even on the low setting. The art is awesome , though some times repetitive, and the gameplay reminiscent of the old school games! Take heed to save after successfully completing a mission because the auto-save can be a fickle companion many times!
Almost 30 hours in and this is by far the hardest game ive ever played and i liked it but holy ♥♥♥♥ the game keeps having the same bug, im stuck on the enemy turn and nothing happens, and aparently this happens randomly at any moment and u cant do anything about it, even if u load the game before and decide to try another mission, it will happen again and restarting the game, pc, re installing and all that ♥♥♥♥ dosent ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ work i dont want my money back i want back the time i spent on this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Great game. Difficult and extremely punishing but I got realy hooked and kept coming back.
This game could be an 8/10, but for reasons ill get into its hard to give it even a 4/10. I want to say that this game is weird. The story is questionable, half the game is a power-trip, the rest is an insane grind. My primary gripe with this game is that the swines who made it abandoned it without fixing bugs that a 10 year old could fix ie. you cannot legitimately get all the achievements because the swines broke one of the counters making at least one achievement un-obtainable. They tried to make 40k XCOM, but really failed badly, if you want 40k XCOM, play Mechanicus - that game is excellent, I promise you'll enjoy it after getting you butt kicked 2-3 times.
If you are a fan of X-COM style games this is a must play even more if you are also a Warhammer 40K fan, the gameplay is satisfying and the story is pretty interesting the only real thing I must warn you about is the difficulty spike you can have 3-4-5 missions where difficulty is **Extreme** and have no issues but then a random normal difficulty mission appears and its like the hardest mission I have ever seen up to that point, so be prepared for a mixed difficulty. The bosses are pretty cool and some of the mechanics needed to defeat them are also very cool. One tip I would give new players is take it slow and don't be afraid to restart your run after learning some of the mechanics. Also keep in mind slight spoiler but you will need to have 8 level up units for the final mission so don't just play with same chars expecting end game to be 1 squad. Also invest early in the ships speed upgrades as you will need to be able to go to 2 missions per **cycle of missions** honestly I don't know how to call this but usually every couple of days you get 3 missions and with the speed upgrade you should be able to tackle two of those before they disappear. The DLC are also pretty cool as they introduce new units for you squad and also enemy elite variants if you enable those. Final thoughts game is pretty neat but be prepared for difficulty spikes and multiple restarts until you learn all the mechanics and mission types, also grenades are super powerful so keep that in mind if you struggle use them. The performance also for some reasons suffered on my PC but then again my PC is old and my specs are not very good.
Still working my way through the campaign but after putting in the dollars/hour ratio, figured it was due a review. Chaos Gate is a tactical role playing game (TRPG) wherein you control a small strike force of Grey Knights returning from a taxing mission against Khorne's followers. You are commandeered though on the way back to your home world for R and R by an Inquisitor who portends an immediate and great risk across the set of systems she interdicted you in. Gameplay takes place on a strategic layer where you make story progress and upgrade your ship and forces for more efficient missions. These missions take place on a gridded tactical layer that allow for range and melee attacks along with a host of special skills and abilities rendered in turn based, 3d, and immersive combat environments that take around 15-20 minutes. Warhammer/XCOM does not quite sum up the game, as I think it reduces how many differences there are between the games. It goes way beyond just window dressing or a 1:1 replacing of aliens with Chaos and XCOM with Grey Knights. The bits of lore are scattered throughout in totally optional conversations with Lunete, Vakir, and Ectar that are pretty tone perfect when it comes to the lore interplay amongst the Mechanicus, Inquisition, and Space Marines. That is all to say: the 40k identity is here and explorable, but isn't leaned on superficially or falsely to put out an XCOM clone. Leveling my knights for specific roles, synergizing their abilities, and generally mopping the floor with Chaos Marines and cultists alike with different strategies is good fun and hasn't gotten old quite yet. The only real issue comes when building characters incorrectly on harder difficulties; some of the speed bumps can feel insurmountable but it comes with the territory of more difficult TRPGs or strategy games in general. Bad strategy makes for a bad time. I have yet to finish over a few runs thanks to some bad strategies, but I've stuck with it and genuinely enjoy the process of getting to the victory screen.
