WarBreeds

Warbreeds was one of my favourite games growing up and I was looking forward to it coming to Steam. Unfortunately, this release doesn't seem to have had much work done to make it compatible with modern systems. It's kinda unplayable in it's current state.

I want to start by saying that I loved WarBreeds as a game. It has huge nostalgic value. I'd love to recommend this on steam, I'm a huge supporter of bringing old games back and making them available. Unfortunately at the moment no matter what I try I simply cannot get the game to launch. The best I can get is a plain black screen with a white mouse that I can move around. Nothing more. In the discussions community section there are a fair few players who have issues. Not being able to get videos to play on the campaign is a common one. So I guess be aware if you are buying this that it just might not work. I'm not going to refund for now, it was very cheap, I'm hoping something will be done to make it playable. Though I am not very optimistic. Edit: I have changed my recommendation to a positive, not because the game has been fixed to work on my PC (I don't think that's going to happen) but because I got it to work on a laptop and so got to play the full campaign.

Great game! Sadly on linux its getting randomly slow and crashes. But i try to fix it.

É feio, é difícil, mas tem alma. Se você viveu a era dos RTS clássicos no PC, [b]WarBreeds é uma viagem direta pro passado[/b]. 💾👾

I use to love this game, and yes, there is not improvement toward pathfinding, but it's still good to play this game again, I wish the multiplayer is enable, and there is not cutscenes (?)

An awesome old school RTS, that is said completely influenced by nostalgia. It is an old RTS: controls are dated; path finding is dreadful; unit AI is woeful. But I still love it, the creatures, building, & structure designs are fantastic. Base building is somewhat unique with crop fields instead of resources; collecting genes from your enemies to steal their technologies, each faction has a unique look and theme.

A new edition of this game with better quality of life would have been great. But, no, this is the exact same game as in 1997, just made compatible with modern hardware. With this low price tag, I would have been fine with it, but this version of the game lacks the campaign videos for some reason. The setting and art have charm. The gameplay gimmick (adding limbs to creatures) is not that deep in term of strategy, but it's original and fun. But the quality of life is terrible (as expected from a 1997's RTS), the pathfinding doesn't work 90% of the time and the AI is one of the dumbest I have seen in an RTS. In a nutshell, this game is for the people who played it 25 years ago and feel nostalgia, and those who want to explore the weirdest retro games. Other people probably won't have fun, this is not a great game and not a good version of it.
