There's enough content currently in War of Wheels to provide some casual fun for a few hours and it looks quite promising from what is on offer at the moment.
Currently, you can drive five different cars and have death matches in a variety of arenas against the CPU or friends locally in split screen. It's enough to give you a rough idea of what their vision is with the game and it is quite fun to play. There's a lot of features and content still to add but they appear quite receptive to suggestions and feedback so it might be a good opportunity to help craft the game if you want to through their Discord channel. You can choose one of the five classes (Knight, Ranger, Assassin, Barbarian, Sorcerer and Artificer) which gives you a different vehicle along with different stats like speed, maneuverability, acceleration, armor and defense. There’s a selection of different items you can bolt on to the car for free, as well as changing the colors and adding some magic elements it would seem. There will also be a campaign mode to run through at a later date. Each vehicle has a primary and secondary weapon which can be short or ranged and include things like various types of shields, an invisibility cloak, and boosts on stats to make your vehicle momentarily more powerful. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3577376481 There are five arenas currently built around a fantasy medieval theme and these can be customized with number of enemy vehicles, day or night cycles, time of event, and whether you want traps and healing items on the stage. Some objects are destructible in the arena although I wanted more explosions and destruction. Destructive objects seemed a bit bland to me. The traps could have been more inventive also. As far as I could tell there is just fire breathing turrets and not much else. Holes in the ground and destructive elements affecting opponents would be a good start. The arenas look quite nice though with some weather effects and a day and night cycle. I would describe the game play as a destruction derby type of game although I found that ramming into vehicles didn’t seem to cause any damage, not aesthetically or indeed in any form, because no damage was displayed. It’s used more as a way of pinning down your enemy and then using the primary or secondary weapon to finish them off. I love Destruction Derby type of games so I found the lack of damage to be very disappointing and the vehicles didn’t really behave the way I would expect when smashing into them, sometimes leaping into the air and just behaving oddly. I’d like to see the vehicles display damage rather than just explode and it’s quite easy to destroy a vehicle with a few hits so I’d like to see them toughen up a bit so that they last longer. When you are destroyed you will automatically re-spawn after a few seconds and your score is continually updated throughout the session scoring points for vehicles killed and assists on kills, along with how many times you perished in the session. The vehicles felt quite responsive to drive and can turn on a six-pence almost, but there is a weird blur when driving which left me feeling a bit disorientated sometimes. Although weapons are quite imaginary, based around their classes, they feel a bit under-powered sometimes. For example, I didn’t feel excited when I was shooting at vehicles. There’s a lack of fanfare when shooting and it’s difficult to see the projectiles. I’d much rather watch rockets flying across the screen into my target than just watching damage points come off the vehicle. The game felt more like Robot Wars because most of the damage was caused at close quarters with a hammer type weapon rather than any long-range attacks. More weapons are planned in future updates. The game is still fun to play though, with a rock-based soundtrack that is pleasant to listen to and creates an upbeat feel to the game, and I am looking forward to seeing how they can advance the game play and content, especially the campaign mode. I think ultimately, they are going to need a multiplayer online experience for this to have any longevity though.
🍳Conclusion🍳

War of Wheels is still in its infancy of early access but there is still quite a lot of content currently and the early signs are promising. There’s a demo you can try out which should give you an idea of how the game feels. There’s definitely some more work to do and more features are promised in the future so if you like the look of the game and want to shape its future, give it a go. I didn’t really know what to expect with War of Wheels, but I ended up enjoying it way more than I thought I would. One of the things I liked the interface, very clean. You can jump into the game without spending 30 minutes trying to figure out the menus or controls. It’s all pretty intuitive, which I appreciated a lot. Felt like the game was made to be accessible and not overly complicated, which is kind of rare lately. The gameplay itself is quick, which is perfect if you don’t have hours to sink into a session. The rhythm is fast but not chaotic, and I never felt lost or overwhelmed. The objectives are very clear, and the controls are responsive and simple to get used to, no need to memorize a bunch of combos or weird mechanics. You get in, do your thing, and it’s fun right away. That said, if I had to point out something that could be improved, I’d say the variety of weapons and worlds/maps. After playing a few rounds, things start to feel a bit repetitive. It’s not a huge problem, but adding more content in those areas would definitely take the game to the next level. More weapons with different effects or unique abilities, and more visually different or tactically diverse worlds would add a lot of replay value.
Годнота. Напомнила мне Twisted Metal, но только красивее и современнее.
The game has a clear and simple goal: to be pure fun. And it does so very well, with a fast-paced and relentless rhythm. I really appreciated the various classes available, each with its own distinct style and feel, which is undoubtedly the game's strongest feature. The settings are highly scalable, and the visual effects are truly impressive, especially the explosions, which greatly enhance the gaming experience. I recommend purchasing the game in its current state even if only to have fun with friends locally, but also because, despite some uncertainties due to its stage of development, the team behind this project seems to have done an excellent job so far and the game has enormous potential (I can't wait for the story mode to be implemented).
Good but raw.
When playing racing games, I've always liked more the crashing into things and other cars and destroying them, than the actual racing, so this meets my taste! Love the medieval punk style, the environments, and the music as well. A game with great potential! What I would like in addition: even more destruction and spectacular effects, and of course more maps, but the possibilities for those are endless.
It's a fun game! The cars are cool and very diverse in gameplay, my favorite it's the knight. Can't wait for the updates!
L'estetica di War of Wheels è semplicemente affascinante.
