Works in Linux! :D Otherwise it is not that good... for now. (BUT KEEP READING TO THE END!) - Repetetive Gameplay (its alway: walk around, find object, find number and input code, remember code and put it in) - Wonky Hitboxes and Physiksbased Objects - Its easy to miss stuff because there isnt really a guide or anything. It took me quite a while to figure things out (Like picking up the Helmet right at the beginning that I didnt see because I seem to be blind, which is kinda frustrating if you dont notice) - Character animations are kinda bad. They just switch from one repeating repetetive animation to the other -sprinting seams to exist but it is so similar to now sprinting that it almost feels the same - Changing display resolution changes it instantly making it very confusing - They managed to spell their own band name wrong i the credits spelling "TESSERAC" instead of "TESSERACT" BUUUUUUT - It is still early access and they have been working really hard on updates from what I can tell but they just didnt seem to release any since 2023 and I REALLY recommend to check out their YouTube channel for it because it almost looks like a different game now with some things like new gameplay mechanics, a new artstyle and especially animation (Oh boy does it look GOOD!) - It also seems to be a VR focused game with desktop playing option, so playing in VR might be a better experience - Music is incredible like expected from TesseracT! I hope that the game receives an update soon (because not updating the early access for 2 years is kinda weird)
Games haven’t brought me this much joy in a long time. From the moment it started, the atmosphere promised total immersion in a world whose rules were exciting to discover. Every challenge the game threw my way made me smile, sparking hope that the gaming industry can still rise up and create products with real heart. The gameplay may be simple, but developers these days seem to forget that a great game doesn’t need tons of features packed in—it needs features that are balanced just right for an ideal experience. The world should feel alive and self-sustained, making the player want to understand the rules it operates by. I loved that I wasn’t being led by the hand with constant hints; instead, I could explore the world and its locations on my own. The only thing I missed was a slow-walk feature to soak in the beauty of the game world at a relaxed pace. To the team: thank you so much for your hard work. It was wonderful to be part of the beautiful world you created. TesseracT’s music has carried me through some tough times, taking me to otherworldly places. And now, I get to touch this world myself. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
I haven't been able to play the VR version, but to me it doesn't matter, I was still heavily immersed in the game. It genuinely is a beautiful game - Even the first view you have when you load into the game had me sit back and take it in for a few minutes before carrying on. The secrets and puzzles are fun to find - a few were challenging, but by fully exploring it was really fun to find all of the details. I think it's really well designed, it stays true to the concept which is really cool - I loved watching the music video again after playing and seeing pretty much everything I'd seen in the game. I can't wait to see how this is expanded on when it's fully released! I highly recommend you check it out, even if you aren't a TesseracT fan first
I know this is early access but i'm truly amazed by the price and also how detailed the game is. For the old tesseract fans there's a few nods to the past as well as the war of being album. i'm trying to write this without giving spoilers but i will say you lose nothing by buying this game! i've spent the last hour doing nothing but go on about how good this game is. i look forward to seeing how they improve on what i class as perfection. i will say though i would love to have a way to pause the game and come back to it.
A really original, clever and beautiful way to showcase music. I'm impressed!
I received this game for "free" but it was due to me pledging to the Kickstarter campaign. Currently, War of Being is a working concept game based on the music album of the same name by the band TesseracT. This early access build was used as a way to promote a single called The Grey before the albums release in September 2023. It achieved it's Kickstarter funding target in late 2023 and is scheduled to be released at some point in 2025. From the Kickstarter page the description of it's aims is "War Of Being can best be described as an indie first-person exploration game with elements of sci-fi fantasy, horror & puzzle solving.". This current build is quite short but is a nice set of levels that showcase the feeling that the final game will be aiming for, in particular the moody setting and a strong emphasis on the ambient soundtrack. My recommendation is positive based on the promising progress I've seen so far via development updates. Purchasing War of Being now would primarily be to support development but there is still fun to be had here, especially if you are a fan of the War of Being album and the band TesseracT in general. I will edit my review when the full game is released.
As a longtime fan of Tesseract, having a game imagined and developed by such amazing musicians is a treat. Even though i do not have VR, i really enjoyed the game, which i believe attains new heights if VR is used. Personally, i loved the exploration, the ambience, the scenery, the story, and to hear Tesseract's music, even in the melodic parts was beautiful. For any Tesseract fan this game is to experience their music in a completely different and immersive way, letting you discover the incredible world of 'the war of being' and many more Tesseract gems. Hopefully we will get more.
As a big TesseracT fan, it was a must buy when I found out about it. I enjoyed playing it, although I kind of wish I had a VR headset. I can always re visit the game though if I get one eventually. Game looks/runs superbly in 4K! The soundtrack, of course, is MEGA. What a great band, see you guys in Bristol in February!
Added on 12/12/23: There are some notes on the map, which contain some secret message. Yet I haven't deciphered it, only the note in the level "The Dark" have I deciphered, it is a portal to a theatre playing trailer-like something. Have to say there are some puzzle in it, and yet to be solved. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Would be better of there's more puzzle & platform game element, also, the game really need some polishing. More songs are welcome.
Played on the Quest 3. This was such a unique way to present a new song! I had so much fun exploring The Strangeland. The visuals, ambiance, sounds, everything was amazing. I can't wait to see which direction this game goes next.
