Wanderlust: Travel Stories

I grew up and live in Thailand so I can vouch for the authenticity of much of the Thailand portions of the game. That said, the game is a tad on the dry side. But I understand the challenges of creating branching story paths. It's not easy to do it in a way that really shows the impact of your choices. And this is because so much work ends up going into things that only a very few people will ever find let alone appreciate. So usually in order to solve for this, there need to be systems in place that can create a breadth of outcomes at the player's behest. Either AI has to be employed in this regard, which today it could be. Deep seek for example is capable of providing outcomes for players based on their choices. Systems for money management too could provide interesting outcomes. Systems for mood management and their effects. But the systems this game employs aren't dynamic enough to be interesting. I do like the idea of one's mood altering the experiences a person has. It's realistic and taken to another level this type of system could create really interesting outcomes. Interesting I think is what this game lacks, unfortunately. Some of the writing is really good. But in some places not so much. I noticed a few errors, both grammatical (I'd saw) and spelling (haed).

This is an interactive novel experience. That being said, don't expect complex choices with consequences, don't expect an edge of your seat spectacle, and don't expect every moment to be exciting. That isn't the point here. This is an anthology of personal journeys, not vacations. Going in with this mindset helped me relate to the characters more. While you have some choice in some things, like where you may visit next, the included stories are those of the characters. I enjoyed learning some things about cultures and regions. As an avid traveler myself, I appreciate the inclusion of the various and often depressing or grim realities tourism can bring. It's something I struggle with personally. Overall, I found myself engrossed in the stories and enjoyed the characters' growths and experiences. Every story felt similar, but very different overall.

I really loved the writing in this. It was descriptive, well-written, atmospheric - really felt like I was transported to the places and experienced those things myself alongside the characters. GOOD STUFF

It really doesn't feel like a game, users will feel it to be something else.

I am going to try to make this brief and my taste in games might be considered boring , so please take this with a gain of salt when I recommend this. But if you can look past that as well if you like anthologies , stories about travel, time that you can burn and a love for reading. This is the type of game for you.

Haunting, hilarious stories from the far corners of the globe (and Europe). Deft. skilful writing that tugs at your heartstrings, reveailing the frailty of our souls and the thin veneer of civilization when power makes its presence felt. Occasionally poetic, often humorous, well-paced for an empathetic reader. But above all, it captures something about the kaleidoscopic nature of social relations and human emotions. Grapples with the questions of the meaning of life when all too often, it is marred by grief, guilt, sadness, and longing. Wanderlust always shows that there is hope, redemption, and thriving to be found, no matter where you go. Let us step away from the computer for a while, and talk to one another. Gain perspectives. And unite.

As many other reviews mention, if you enjoy travel and reading, you will enjoy this game. I only wish the game were longer
