Cleansuit

Cleansuit is a horror title that basks in the niche sub-genre of oldschool text-based adventures; though it does come with a modernized graphical twist. You take on the role of an average Joe who is home alone at night, when all of a sudden there is a knock at the door. Answering it head on just might be your first of many deaths, as you attempt to outwit the mysterious Cleansuit Killer. Unlike many older text-based adventure games, Cleansuit is very easy to navigate. The game only responds to a handful of commands, and most of the items that you can interact with are denoted in the descriptive text of each room. The real challenging part is figuring out which objects to combine and where to place them. There's a lot of trial and error to be had, but once you start figuring out what to do the game goes by fairly quickly. There are even some secrets to find, Easter Eggs to enjoy, and laughs to be had. In total, there are five main endings with seven variation twists; meaning that you can replay certain end sequences, but figure out different ways of killing the killer, or how to get him captured. They're all worth working toward, although the variations usually aren't that big of an outcome changer. The really fun part, for me at least, is figuring out all of the ways that you can be killed. There are far more self-deaths than there are killer-deaths, and a lot of them are hilarious; for instance, try typing in "jerk off" repeatedly. Despite the tongue-in-cheek nature of Cleansuit, the game itself does have a decently creepy atmosphere. The fact that you're unsure of when the killer will appear next keeps your blood pumping, and creates a sense of urgency in your movements. If you're down for a great little dark comedy title with subtle hints of horror, then Cleansuit is the modernized text-based adventure that you've been waiting for. The hour/hour and a half long content is definitely worth the $4.65 CAD. If you're looking for something that's more serious but within the same sub-genre, check out Dark Fear. Ever watched a horror movie and thought to yourself, "All I would have to do to get away is..."? Now is your chance to prove your skills in either escaping or destroying a muderous madman. Cleansuit is very deceptive. The simple 'slideshow style' graphics and 'retro' text interface mask a seriosuly engaging experience. With bonus replayability, thanks to multiple endings!

5 bucks well spent. Randal is the most powerful character in gaming.

Incredibly dumb but also strangely amusing. The humour won't be for everyone, but it tickles the sarcastic, slapstick childish part of my brain so right. I have definitely spent the price of this game on far worse things, and this just makes me hungry for more text adventure games.

Now this takes me back to my Spectrum days playing games like the Hobbit and Subsunk. It's a nice little game, and recommended to anyone who enjoys old text adventures.

I enjoyed this short text game and all of it's endings. The trial and error of finding the right inputs and puzzle moves was really fun. The art was cool too. It's got retro glitch vibes.

Nice short text based little romp. he fun is in the exploration rather than progression. I had the honor of speaking with some of the developers at the Franklin Institute recently and their view on bring back a genre that you don't often see anymore was refreshing.

Cleansuit is short and sweet! It's a lot of fun exploring the different ways to survive (as well as the different ways you can die). Check it out!

Took me less than an hour to score a few different deaths and find a way to get rid of the cleansuit man. It has fairly good replayability though with all its mini puzzles. ❌ The exposition is a bit lacking. I would have loved to have a little bit more insight into what is happening exactly. The game is pretty nice, its length may be disappointing, but again it is very cheap, especially on sale. I'd recommend it as a small horror-adjacent experience.
