As with many VR games, videos don't really sell what it's really like to play. At the main menu, less than 5 seconds after launching, I'm already having fun! You play the game standing in chest-high arctic waters and the controllers are like little xylophone mallets. You can bop the surface of the water to make little splashes. Audio and visual style is very cute an polished. You activate all the UI buttons by bopping. In the game you bop platforms to raise and lower them. Bop the penguins to speed them up. Adorable! Audio is cute to with a couple tracks that cycle through. The end credits has one of the penguines sing along with the main tune. It's a traditional puzzle game (similar to Mario VS Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis). Penguins automatically move and always turn right when they hit walls. Get them to the exit or optionally collect the challenge eggs. Some eggs are a bit hidden and you need to look for them with positional tracking. Some levels have robots that you need to corral and avoid. There's a laser mode for activating distant objects and you can rotate the floating island, so this game will work with a tiny tracked space too. Height is adjustable so it's kid friendly. There's 40 levels and most I could complete with all the eggs in 1 to 4 minutes.
Waddle home is is a a very cute game that does nothing to hide it's mobile app influences. From the start screen, to the puzzle level mechanics and simple interactions, this, at heart, screams app store. I'm not sure that the casual game mechanic is a perfect one for the immersive experience of VR, as opposed to idling away a train trip, but I cannot deny, it was fun. Standing in the freezing arctic water was a nice touch, but I really wanted to resize the island a bit, it looked a little small for my liking. I am giving it the thumbs up as it is well made, cute, complete, well thought out and deserves to be seen. My kids are eager to give it a go and I'm sure they'll love it - but just be aware, this is not a game that utilises VR to its full, it's a casual puzzler that could quite as easily been on my phone.
If you are a fan of puzzle games you owe it to yourself to pick this up. Intuitive controls and a polished experience makes this game a must have.
definitely a family friendly game. very sytlized art, and challenging puzzles. I like it!
This game is awesome! You can tell it was made for the Vive. Easily one of the prettiest games I have right now. The gameplay is a lot of fun, and there seems to be a good number of levels. It feels very polished, not buggy at all unlike a lot of other VR games out right now. I got this game for 30% off ($7), definitely worth the price! Even seems like a bargain for $10. Check it out!
Waddle Home is a fun puzzle game in the genre of ChuChuRocket (Dreamcast). Release a penguin from it's cage and it will walk forward untill it hits an obstacle, then turns right and walks forward again. Get the penguin to the spaceship! Collect the eggs along the way. Sounds simple but the levels become more and more complex. It's a great family game or if you want to cool down from actiongames. Looks good, sounds good, runs great, good price. Specs: i7 6700k, 16GB RAM, R9 390.
Pretty cool game. I haven't played a puzzle game like this before so it was nice to play something fresh. I haven't gotten very far but I was happy to see in the trailer that it looks like the puzzles get much more complex. Good stuff. Check out my overview on YouTube! - https://youtu.be/pbaLPFrBxBY
Sort of like Monument Valley, but in VR and with penguins. Puzzles get increasingly complex and need to be viewed from different angles to complete each level fully. Clever enough for adults but also all ages friendly. 10/10 would bop penguins repeatedly over the head again
Puzzles just aren't for me and VR doesn't change that. If you don't like puzzels in 2D, I wouldn't imagine you would like this game either. They game is very simple. You tap things to create a route for your penguins to get to the end of the puzzle. I don't see why this game needed a VR implimentation. You could play this game on a phone. Only buy this game if you are a diehard puzzle fan.
