I have had this game since launch day, and although I have enjoyed playing it a lot, I wouldn't recommend buying it right now. It feels like Magellan has all but abandoned it, they haven't released any updates to/about the game since April 25th. In all fairness, there's a road map that points to late 2025 as introducing new features, and we still have a couple months to go, so I'm holding out hope. Until then, I'd save your $24.99 until that update materializes. I'll update my review then. My feedback to Magellan is to be more transparent with your customers. From our point of view, it seems like you took our money and ran, not even leaving a Dear John letter. We'd love to see behind the scenes work and whatnot. I hope the road map stays accurate and new features are just around the corner.
Abandoned - nothing on the road map has been delivered. Unless you are happy with the current state of the game do not buy.
As a pre-release, this is a solid, great experience. The visuals are the main selling point for me. The graphics are stunning! You've done a great job portraying the true size of just how big this wreckage is. The tutorial is sufficient to allow you to master the controls on your first time through. The only negative critique I have is that the rovers can bump into invisible geometry causing damage. If that were tightened up a bit this experience would be flawless. For future development, here's my wish list. * Added in-game education. Maybe having the option to see a cut scene on objects that provide animations or slideshows with narration. * Choose a point in history. The ability to choose points in history from 1912 to present that will allow you to explore the Titanic in different states of decay. Again, for an early release, this was a home run. I'm VERY excited to see how this develops.
If you're a Titanic fan, this 'game' is a must - completing the missions to enable free roam is awesome as you can then just spend hours gliding around the bow and stern of the ship and investigating every last detail. I'd really love to be able to fly over the debris field between the bow and stern sections, hopefully Magellan will do an update to allow this (please!).
These scans are a dream come true for any fan or follower of Titanic. I only hope that with more updates come higher resolution options and also a way for you to free cam without being tethered to the ROV.
i need this is vr sooner than 2027
Recently found out about vROV Pilot and sat down with it last night. I understand it’s still early access and basically unfinished, but have some thoughts about the experience. First of all, the idea of taking the real life scans of the wreck and placing them in Unreal engine as a playable experience is fantastic. The first time you come up on the bow section in first person really does give you chills. I also don’t mind the interiors not being modeled in any way since that’s not what the experience is about. I do think calling it a “game” is a stretch, though. It’s definitely more of an slightly interactive 3D model then a game, and over my four sessions last night, I found the timer to be a completely arbitrary restriction. I would be looking for something to scan, get distracted taking in the detail of the wreck or a specific part, and then have to stop so that the timer didn’t run out before I scanned everything. I realize a “free play” is available after the mission is complete, but I find it odd that you can’t just select that option from the beginning. I also get that they included two rovers in case you lose one, but even playing on Realistic difficulty, you kind of have to really try to lose the rover. One thing I kept imagining while playing it was how well it would work if they leaned into the “tour” aspect of it. If you were given the option of selecting a “Free Play” mode from the start, I think it could look like this: - No timer, no damage restrictions - Remove the aspect of “finding” specific items, and instead have the map function as a 3D wiki article. If you hovered over the lifeboat davits or the anchor for example, a pop-up would display the name of the part/area of the ship, as well as a rendering or photo of it in its original new condition/placement on the ship. There were a few times I was tasked with finding an item and I had no idea what it was actually supposed to look like, even after I found it. I think a small text blurb/diary entry on each item appearing as you inspect it would also be pretty cool. Other thoughts: - the scanning mechanic is very basic, just clicking on some circles around a certain item. There is no real animation and it feels like an afterthought. - the low resolution really lets it down once you get close at all to the ship, you'll find yourself struggling to make out details that aren't there - the ROV really could use a strafe control. I kept trying to inch slightly to the side and finding myself rotating instead - the radar targets are super frustrating to find at times. You'll head off in the direction of a blip, then find it has magically moved somewhere else, then drop down to look for it, and continue ping ponging around looking for whatever item you're tasked with finding. it doesn't help when everything looks like melted wax and is all the same shade of blue, so I often found myself getting lucky and eventually the scan targets would magically appear after passing by the same item 5 or 6 times - It could still have gameplay elements, like requiring you to scan each “article” to unlock it to keep it interesting. I realize it’s probably not the intended scope of the project/requires much more labor and effort, but just felt like that might make for a much better experience. I also found it weird that certain items (like the boilers/debris around the ship) that were obviously very visible and noteworthy were never listed to scan, instead repeating some of the same items over and over (like the anchor or plaques). Anyway, still an interesting experience, just extremely basic gameplay-wise. Excited to see what they do with it in the future, but a little worried looking at the Road Map published by the developers and seeing almost nothing checked off so far besides the low-quality Stern section (which is really let down by the low quality since the Stern is such a mess, and it appears like a melted blob in a lot of areas. Also, the Stern section is much more demanding on your PC than the Bow section seems to be.) I wouldn't really recommend it for $25 right now unless you're a die-hard Titanic enthusiast, and even then, keep your expectations low. You can finish the entire game in about 30 minutes as it stands. If they can add a higher resolution or some more features to give the player something to do, I think it would easily be worth that.
DO NOT BUY. Completely abandoned after release. Nothing from the roadmap has happened and there have been zero updates from the developer anywhere. This was 100% a cash grab.
If you're a Titanic nerd, and not a billionaire that can physically go to the wreck, it's cool to be able to explore the actual real scans of the wreck. I like that they created a "game" aspect to it, but I agree with the other reviews that a free camera mode would be an excellent addition. It would also be great if free camera mode included some notes on what we're looking at.
With all due respect to the creators and thankful for their efforts to make this program, I am still really dissappointed in the quality. Either make it a game, or make it interactive informative for the Titanic-enthousiasts. Now you have neither, and it's pretty annoying to have to use a rover, while I personally couldn't care less about a "game" content. It's just too tragic a story. But the graphics are the true dissapointment for me. I watched our friend Mike Brady demonstrate it in his brilliant podcasts, and after he mentioned this was only 10% of the actual available quality, I interpreted that (my mistake), as that the commercial version would show all the details. Especially after seeing the History Hit podcast with the HD details and whole debris-field, i thought that they used that too. I was wrong, and I would never have spent this money if I knew this. While i love to submerge every now and then to visit the ship, it's not at all what I hoped it would be. Let's hope there will be a new release, updates or DLC's for all I care, but this is nowhere near what Titaniacs would love.
