About
Development Status – Important Note:
VR: Under a Desert Sun was originally planned to be a full single-player adventure with both story-driven content and a wave shooter mode. However, development has been discontinued, and the game remains in its current form—a wave-based shooter designed to test core mechanics.
Rather than keep VR: Under a Desert Sun in Early Access forever, I wanted to be transparent and officially close this chapter. I did not reach my original goal of developing a full single-player campaign alongside the wave shooter mode. However, as some players requested, I’ve kept the finished aspects of the game available for those who want to explore them.
Thank you to everyone who supported this project—hopefully, we’ll see you for the next adventure!
VR: Under a Desert Sun places you in the heart of a classic pulp adventure, reminiscent of the action-packed stories from old movies. Step into the role of a reluctant hero in World War II, battling against ruthless Nazi forces and an ancient magical power that has awakened from the desert sands.
This VR experience features realistic weapon handling and immersive environmental interactions, bringing the adventure to life in a way only virtual reality can.
While the game will not receive further updates, this horde mode remains fully playable, offering an arcade-style VR shooting experience in a pulpy, action-packed setting.
What is there?
Realistic weapon handling: use your controllers to handle realistic world war 2 weapons.
Flight: use your flying skills to fly airplanes and avoid death.
Free movement and exploration: explore large environments any way you want.
Impressive VR Graphics: feel immersed in the desert while being overwhelmed by the desert hordes. Incredibly detailed environments, weapons and enemies.
VR only: this game has been built from the ground up for VR. All interactions and mechanics were built to experience in VR.

This game is fun to play and since the developers are very responsive, it has great potential. I'm really happy with the fast based updates. Can't wait for the new features to be implemented!
Do everyone a favour and bury all contents of this game in the desert
Story N/A Story - 0 out of 10 Gameplay There are a few elments I would like to focus on regarding gameplay so here we go! General goal of the game - At the moment its a wave shooter, there are plans for a story but nothing great yet Combat - I have to be honest, it just feels empty nothing special about it, you shoot with trigger (duh) but you also holster with trigger, so you will often find you've just put your gin away and then you lose lots of health. Speaking of which, I have a verey steady hand but somehow when I aim down sight it shakes rediculosly! No proper melee weapons is a dissapointment, however I love the realistic reloading to a point, its brilliant you can pull the bolt back but its shakey at best it needs a total rework. Movement - OMGGGGG you will get stuck at literally every corner lets just not get into this as a whole. UI - Nothing really makes much sense not like it's explained, my favourite part (not) has to be the menu, its a cool animation of a rock rising but then me (5ft 11) on my tip toes trying to reach some of the options, well why not walk closer you ask? Haha it just spawns further away. The games biggest let down - Quit wave shooting, refund do a new game, rework everything because there ARE some GOOD ideas but it's rushed, bring in a story the whole desert setting is rather unique just really wish it was pulled off better. Gameplay - 0.5/10. Graphics Lifeless, small maps, unacsessible zones, the mummies/soldiers are just child textures, im sorry but what is this? Maybe a little unfair, with super sampling it is atleast clear. Graphics - 1/10. Price - £0.39 Still feel ripped off, I imagine for myself and I assmume evryone reading this, 0.39 is nothing but I am going to refund because I am that dissapointed, you could say at £0.39 what were you expecting? Well I have played many F2p games with much better effort involved. Value for money - It's £0.39? Still 0/10 I don't endorse this, don't waste your time, I may come across a bit harsh and some may say well what can you do? I am not paid to play games, I pay to play them, maybe in time this will become something but like having a full equality in the world, I wouldnt hold my breath. Things I liked: It's clear Things I didn't like bland gameplay Clunky controls No achievments or cards?! Pretty much everything Overall rating - 0.5/10 Spoiler alert:
I hated it, odds are, you will to.
Looks interesting but I cannot get the crossbow to work...cannot draw an arrow. Also as the other reviewer mentioned the button assignments are not easy for me to ge tthe hang of... BUT has great potential!
Fun game, Has potential. Spooked the ♥♥♥♥ outta me seeing a zombie come from behind or a corner. The only wacky thing about this game are the controls. But you will get use to it overtime
The controls are weird and you cant even fit any ammo in your belt
Vive Pro Looks like the big vision for this game is a single player campaign, but in early access it's just swarm levels. Nothing wrong with that. [Pros] Graphics are great. It's Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark or The Mummy VR (no levels yet) It has both firearms and melee [Cons] It's not very intuitive. From level selection to even the options menu, it will take a bit to adjust. There's some collision issues with the level cubes too that I found really annoying. I bought this a while back but I couldn't even get past level selection because of this. Not sure if the developers have Vive controllers. It was ok, but felt unpolished. Of course this is Early Access so it's ok. [Conclusion] I hope they do a better job of marketing. I did enjoy their Reddit posts back then but I'm not surprised that they're not posting as much any more given how toxic the virtual reality sub-reddits are. Hopefully, they can find another outlet to tell people about the progression of this game.
Note: I played on HTC Vive, with Vive controllers. This game has some potential. It is still fairly early in development. The game has free locomotion, which is quite nice, and snap turning. There is manual reloading for weapons, which is pretty nice. The animations still need some work but it is not bad. It still has some quirks occasionally but nothing game-breaking. There is not a huge amount of content or levels yet. FOr now there are some preview wave-survival maps but the developer is planning to create a proper single player campaign. Appearance-wise it doesn't look too bad. There are some graphic style inconsistencies but for the most part it looks just fine. It still lacks some polish but that is understandable as there is only one dev working on it.
Game has potential but is not quite there yet in terms of content. Though will definitely recommend it when the singleplayer map has been released. Edit as of 29/3/2025: After 5 years, the promised singleplayer mode is now canceled. For that reason, I honestly cannot recommend it.
