Experienced on the Oculus Quest 2
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/m2k-CbuMg4w This is COD zombies, except with only 2 maps, lots of bugs, and lack of polish. Keep in mind, this game is in Early Access. There is lots of potential that the developer may or may not ever deliver on. There's no guarantee in EA. The only reason to buy this game now, is to support development. However, as a reviewer, I can't review a game based on potential or promises. I review the game that I played. The game that I played isn't very good. I couldn't recommend it at any price. There are so many bugs that I couldn't possibly list them all. However, here are some of them: I couldn't get into a house on the swamp level after unlocking the door because there was some object on the floor blocking the way. My melee weapon suddenly would stop working (even though it still had durability). On top of that, there were just general hit detection issues. My weapon would get stuck on the enemy or my hand would move far away from my body. I could never buy ammo no matter what I tried doing. Enemies would get stuck on doors. I couldn't figure out how to use magic (I could select the spell, but nothing ever happened). The 2 maps in this game seem to be well-detailed and they seem to have nice verticality and they seemed pretty big. There were also lots of weapons to unlock, upgrade, and repair. The graphics were decent, although you had poor lighting, poor animations, weird ragdoll physics, and basic sounds (couldn't tell where zombies were coming from, they all sounded nearby). The tutorial was horrible and the UI is ugly. Game is running on the Unreal Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting variable frame rates. Would start at 90, then quickly go down to 80, and go down as low as 40 at times. You do have full locomotion and smooth and snap turning options. Like, I said there's lots of potential here. There are things to like here. However, there's so much wrong with this game and it will take a lot of work to fix all these issues. Also, the core combat just isn't very exciting. We shall see. Rate 4/10. Needs a lot of work. Buy only to support development, if you feel comfortable doing that.
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program. Great concept and a great game! A little buggy at times but i can say its one of the better games out there!
TLDR: Janky COD Zombies clone with melee combat. You earn points, buy weapons, open doors to new sections of the map. This game has potential, but I do not think it was ready for release, even as an early access title. Cons: In 38 minutes of playing I encountered plenty of bugs. So much so that I have to question whether this game has received any play testing at all. - The worst was the one where I couldn't pick up any weapons (so I just lost). - There was also a piece of geometry that stops you from getting into a room on the swamp map. - Translations are terrible, so it's very hard to figure out the tutorial, e.g. there are a few tutorial cards that simply say "use the button" without specifying what button to use. - The guns sound weak, and the animations make you feel like you're firing BB guns. - The player's hands are way too big and the LOD seems to mess up on them a lot, causing my fingers to occasionally become polygonal spikes when viewed at certain angles. - The grabbing and holstering doesn't seem very responsive most of the time. Often I had to repeatedly try to grab things or holster things. Pros: - zombie models are good, with some decent-enough looking dismemberment (headshots felt fairly satisfying) - ragdoll phsyics are good If you want Nazi Zombies in VR just get Pavlov, but this game definitely has the potential to be worth the asking price. It just isn't at the moment.
Was a great experience, I started playing just after the release and this is what I've found as pro and cons; Pros: -Melee weapons feels good -A lot of weapons -Dark & scary -Good graphics Cons -A bit buggy at times but nothing immersion breaking - Darkness can be too much at times
My personal recomendation: avoid at any costs. Sorry devs, but you are trying to trick by positioning the game as not what it really is. I would recommend to skip this one, and if you are looking for something similar, go get Saints&Sinners or Arizona Sunshine. I doubt we'll have a chance to see something better in the upcoming years.
(Warning I only have one hour playtime under my belt! I will update the review later on) What I liked so far: - Finally an original VR game that is not a clone of another popular game. - Game physics are really impressive, similar to Sword and Sorcery. - Graphics are really good though I have rtx3080 so I may be biased. - Open world. - Scary What I disliked so far: - Small bugs here and there but not immersion breaking. - I don't like when games gets too scary. - I prefer blinking as locomotion method since I get VR sick fast.
Game has allot of potential. As previous review stated the game did not fair well the first month it came out. It is working now. If you like Cod Zombies, the is basically it. Game is much better than a negative review. I think if most people went back and tried it first now, they would have a different opinion of it. Would give it a 6 or 7 out of 10.
2/10. Had high hopes, but it is a Disappointment in VR
Ok, so I have added this game to WL a very long time ago and expected to see a much better product. This is actually very sad… Pros: + Points are earned to buy weapons + Weapons have durability + Creepy Cons: - A very poor optimization on high settings - Game is very dark and it is hard to see anything at all - Zombies are buggy, models are poor and hit from distance - Entrance to second house on a second map is blocked by something on a floor - Shooting sound is bad - Only 2 maps, no story etc.
Summary
The game is being developed by two persons. Ok - but we have real examples when nice VR games are made by small team or even single person. So having a small team is not an excuse for a poor game. You know what I see? All these games being made by even well sponsored companies recently are really weak (Medal of Honor, Walking Dead Onslaught etc.), and games like HL Alyx created such a high competition that titles like Buried Alive cannot be treated seriously though cost a half of Alyx price. If you want a good wave based zombie game – try Propagation VR – which is free.
At this moment i can´t recommend this game! The reason is as simple as frustrating: I can´t start it. Well, i can, but i only see the loading screen. After a few seconds it disappears and the steam area is shown and then i see the loading screen and after a few seconds... This keeps on untill shutting down the game manually. I tried both Quest 1 and Reverb G2. Both headsets gave me the same "experience". A game, that doesn´t start, can´t be recommended. Too bad, i was looking forward to this zombie slashing game. Early Access does mean, that i can PLAY the game, right? "Played" with an HP Omen Notebook (Core i7 10750H, 2070 SUPER MaxQ, 16GB of RAM and a M.2 NVME SSD).
