Fragments and details, rainy nights and blurry lights are all VOID&MEDDLER focuses on. A non-linear cyberpunk adventure where genders and species melt into each other.

I've played and enjoyed a few point-and-click games before, but this really wasn't for me. It was confusing and felt incredibly unfinished. For Episode 1, there are three paths across two acts. These acts are short and felt like they ended abruptly, only for accumulated items to be lost for the next act. I'm the type to explore everything a game has to offer and happy to take my time, but the issue is that I still felt that the majority of my playthrough felt hollow. I got the alt path on my first run and finished wondering what happened. The gameplay here is its biggest flaw. You walk back and forth between the same locations - hindered by a slow walking speed (you can run in some areas, but it isn't enough) - hoping your character agrees to do what you want/you do things in the specific order the game wants. I found that I explored each area, only to exhaust everything and have to move on to another place before getting the object/interaction needed to progress and having to go back. These things felt inconsistent and sometimes just trial and error. The dialogue is both pseudo-philosophical and nihilistic, but mostly waffle - it's not a great start when the opening lost me. The world has so much potential and it seemed interesting, but the storytelling was really poor. I felt like the game was trying too much to be "show not tell", but forgetting that it should still introduce these concepts and make things clear. Instead, you are just thrusted in to this world and culture with no explanation of anything - some stuff you can figure out, but it could have been done so much better. I wanted to know more, but the game never delivered. In addition to the concept of the world being interesting, the visual style is unique and appealing. So there are a couple of good things going for it. I can't remember how I heard about this game, but it has been sat in my library for almost a full decade, where I even sorted it into a "want to play" list. I see it is now delisted on Steam. I also see there was a second episode and the way pricing was handled was controversial. I don't see a way to get that episode today though - and honestly, I don't have a lot of desire to continue this game even if I could play it.

Alright, so apparently I played a game (or, the first episode of a game that I expected to be a stand alone title with no episodes) with a sociopath protagonist that clearly had little empathy and talked to herself quite a bit about her deep thoughts. That's an interesting concept for a game, and as much as I like serious point & click adventures Void and Meddler couldn't get to me at all. The mixture was just strange. Blurry graphics that seem somber and just a bit loveless, packed with effects and lights that on one hand totally fit into the dystopian cyberpunk world that we get to know here, yet it was difficult for me to find some objects at all and my interest and it seemed a bit soulless and hard to spot to me. The soundtrack is awesome, but why is there no voice acting? It would have given the game so much more soul! As for the story... I didn't really get it. At some point I thought I would get into it but then the episode was cut off. The whole game / plot tries desperately to be poetically edgy, but it's missing the interesting characters, funny sidenotes and anything that is NOT depressive/edgy and cool in a dark way. I can't recommend it, even if your love for cyberpunk is strong, better spend your money on other games.
Subpar music, unlikeable protagonist and the worst off all: the writing in this game is horrible. Did a dropout high schooler provide the script? At least the artstyle and the atmosphere of this game are good (not great, just barely good). My rating: Meh don't bother/10, not recommended.
Interesting story with a very comfy yet drab aesthetic. Totally would recommend if you're the type to try and do everything in a click and point.

it's a messy game, but very fun. I really like the neon gloomy visuals and decadent vibe. Also, the soundtrack is absolutely amazing.
