Very fast paced, reminds me a lot of Race The Sun. The first few levels might be easy, but it ramps up in the difficulty pretty quickly.
BUT!!!!
Pretty hard, but not unfair. You fly (drive?) a ship at high speeds while dodging and shooting obstacles. As you gain XP, you unlock customization options for your ship like shields and different guns. Game has a great soundtrack to listen to as you die repeatedly before you finally grasp victory.
An arcade looking driving game that is about making it to the finish line while dodging the obstacles. I liked it a lot when I first played it.
It's pretty good. A lot like Race the Sun but with the occasional enemy. I bought it on a sale (I think) and it was worth it.
not bad
Summary
A straightforward endless racer/dodger/shooter mixture which, despite what could be (and should be?) a derivative design and aesthetic, somehow feels incredibly satisfying and addictive. Apart from extreme analog control sensitivity in menus (but not in-game, inexplicably,) I've been enjoying it in small doses for years.
Who is this game for?
Anyone who enjoys endless dodging games (automatic forward momentum, with plentiful obstacles to dodge, enemies to shoot, etc.) Anyone who appreciates wireframe models, polygons, retro aesthetics, and throbbing synths. Anyone who just wants an endless game to zone out to.
Who is this game not for?
Anyone looking for something more substantial or involved. (There is a very rudimentary upgrade system, but the game is very barebones ultimately.) Anyone bothered by buggly/overly sensitive menu controls (with a controller, at least - it's fine with mouse + kb.) Anyone who dislikes endless runners/racers/dodgers/shooters or the vibe and aesthetic. Anyone who dislikes repetition.
PROS
Clean, neon, glowing visuals with wireframe models and pleasing enough ship designs. Genuinely endless. Simple but effective upgrade system. Daily runs. Very straightforward and understandable. Fun to zone out to. Decent challenge as you progress. FOV and menu size settings are appreciated.
CONS:
Overly sensitive analog controls in menus. No workaround found thus far. (In-game is fine. Just use a light touch in menus.) What you see is what you get. Don't expect more from the game than what it is, and if you dislike repetition, you likely won't enjoy this game.
General
I expected this game to be yet another endless racer/dodger with retro visuals and sounds, and on paper, that's exactly what it is. Nevertheless, something about this game clicks with me. It becomes progressively challenging the more you play, the daily runs keep me coming back for more, endless mode is great to zone out to, and it's one of those games you can enter a state of "flow" or zen with and just space out in. Surprisingly addictive and fun. Worth checking out if the caveats above don't deter you.
VR implementation is incredible. Despite fast left/right movement and acceleration I didn't experience any motion sickness. Game is fun, but if you are like me and want to see a quick Y/N on VR implementation, this can be recommended.
