"Experience Versailles" invites you to live two historical events that took place at the Palace of Versailles : the visit of the siamese ambassadors during Louis XIV's reign, and the Yew Tree Ball, organized by Louis XV.

This is a purely educational experience, so don't get it if you expect it to be a fully immersive gaming experience. The experience was generally okay, if not rather short. The narration was probably one of its best aspects. visuals-wise, however, do not expect to be blown away by the 1990 graphics and limited NPC's range of motion; I personally liked it because it reminded me of Versailles 1685, a great (yet little-known) historical intrigue game from the 90s, but others may not like it very much. You also have an extremely limited range of interaction with characters which is restricted to pointing at specific characters to know more about them. You also cannot move around the courtyard or the palace freely. This experience, however, did well in spite of its clearly limited budget, and I do hope that the Versailles Palace Foundation will one day produce a robust 3D recreation of the palace in VR so we can visit and learn more about this historical priceless gem that is Versailles.
Played on Rift CV1. As a frenchman, I was looking forward to this game as it reminded me of the remarkable "Versailles 1685 : Complot à la Cour du Roi Soleil" game. Turns out it's worth a watch, but nothing stellar. Unlike the previously mentioned game, here you can't freeroam in the castle, it's very short and very straightforward. Interactions are extremely limited, and the game crashed at some point for me. Versailles deserves better than this. Playable in both french and english languages. 3/5 stars.
Apparently VR is not supported, but required. I can't even get past the damn start menu. This is a huge disappointment. Would've been nice if this actually worked for us plebs too.
ce jeu ne fonctionne pas
First off, If you have a GTX 1060 or slower, don't even bother downloading this. 2nd, unless you speak/understand French, change your language to English before starting your experience. The game list's it minimun requirements as only needing an i5-3570K, 8GB RAM, and a GTX 1050. With my setup: AMD's Ryzen R5 1600 | GTX 1060 6GB | 16GB RAM, I'm only achieving 32fps. This experience needs a lot of optimization before it's enjoyable by most. I can run "Nefertari: Journey To Eternity" (also free) on the High Preset and maintain 90fps with very few dips into the 80's here and there. And that experience is beautiful! (It's built on photogramtery). I was hoping to get the same experience here as well. But until it's performance is greatly improved, I won't be launching it again.
The palace of Versailles will charm you into two tours. Luckily the palace is a charming and engaging speaker as well as a bit of a flirt so it makes some of the game's less sparkling features OK. There is no free movement, so you can't explore at your own pace exactly and I often felt too far from the action to see anything properly. The palace itself is lovely so it would have been nice to have free roam. But there is at least movement in the game, even through teleportation and the historical figures move.
