[h2]Virus at Home[/h2] [h1]Russian Sounds Awesome[/h1] I was really skeptical about playing this game at first since it looked like the usual indie shovelware. The game looks like a meme on the ongoing Covid-19 situation. Surprisingly enough, the game was very entertaining! I loved the sense of humor the game had. Everything was a joke & that’s what made the game fun. The best part was the Russian theme the game had. [h1]About This Game [/h1] [h2]Storyline[/h2] The plotline of this game is so random & funny. All dialogues are in Russian. The game has a very short gameplay length but you will surely enjoy every minute of it. I finished the game in about 30 minutes. So yeah, the plot goes something like this: [code]You play as a normal resident in Russia. You get a call from some government-related dude who tells you that due to the storm & the time of the day being night, viruses started attacking people. The only way to kill them is by spraying some anti-virus spray on them. He guides you & gives you tips to survive. Well, your survival is in your hands & the mysterious guy will benefit either way. The game takes some weird twists & turns, you are suddenly asked to clean a Sofa for no reason. In another instance, you’re asked to celebrate with the anonymous dude by drinking some Potato juice. The ending is weirdly amusing. I recommend playing the game by yourself to understand the entire plot! ;)[/code] As you can see, the story isn’t really something serious. The game just aims to give you a humorous & amusing experience and they do it perfectly. I love it when games have crazy & meaningless stories! Complete the story to be titled “The National Hero”. [h2]Gameplay Mechanics[/h2] [b]Movement[/b] The game has surprisingly smooth movement mechanics. The basic movement mechanics are present; walk, run, crouch & jump. Jumping has no actual in-game but I appreciate their efforts to include it for a complete FPS experience, unlike some other games. [b]Enemies[/b] I was surprised to find out that the game had more than one type of enemy. The other types are the mutated version of the base virus. There is a huge difference between these different types of viruses. Here are the types of Viruses & their descriptions (They don’t actually have names, I am just naming them myself): [olist] [*]The Red Virus: This is the first type of Virus you face. They move rather slowly & are easy to kill as they disintegrate in one spray. [*]The Golden Virus: This is comparatively bigger than the red ones & it takes multiple sprays to take it down since they have a high tolerance against the spray but aren’t completely immune to it. They get rather annoying if you face multiple Golden Viruses at once since they eat up your spray’s ammo. [*]The Purple Virus: These are small in size & move way faster than the other types. They can be killed in one spray but you need to kill them before they hit you which is a herculean task. [*]The Green Virus: They are as big as the Golden Virus but they reduce in size the more you damage them & eventually die. One of these is enough to give you a hard time as it takes multiple sprays to take them down. [/olist] Apart from these enemies, you face a huge boss with an even bigger health bar. This boss at least has a name given by the devs; “The Virus Mothership”. Defeating this abomination finishes the game! [b]Weapons & Utilities[/b] The guy on the phone informs you that the only thing that can kill the viruses is a bottle of some antiviral spray (I think, I can’t read the label on the bottle since it’s in Russian). The spray bottle has two shooting modes, normal shots which can be used to hit viruses in mid-range & ADS shots which are meant for close-range encounters. I didn’t even use the latter firing mode even once since the normal shots were sufficient for close & mid-range. Then the Russian Government guy tells you that you can also use Toilet Paper Rolls as a weapon to kill viruses. I wondered how at first then I saw that these toilet paper rolls weren’t ordinary ones, they exploded on impact! This proved to be useful asf since it could instantly kill all the variants of the virus except the boss. Near the end of the game, since the virus count increases, the Government Agent guy permits you to use lethal firepower. By “Firepower”, he meant an AK-47. Let me just say this, the AK is strong alright, it can one-shot all enemies except the boss…but it has a lot of drawbacks. If you go somewhat close to a wall, the gun faces up & prevents you from shooting. This is pretty annoying since you are fighting in a very tight space. The gun is also very unrealistic since it has an infinite magazine since you don’t need to reload. It also has no ammo limit, unlike the spray. When you get infected by several viruses at once, the gun becomes unusable for a while. It refuses to shoot. [b]Miscellaneous Information[/b] [list] [*]To prevent enemies from entering your house, you are supposed to close the windows in different rooms whenever they open. This sounds easy alright, but sometimes, the handles on the windows break & you are forced to search for a replacement handle in a drawer. This was an interesting addition that increases the game’s difficulty by a bit & adds variation to the gameplay. [*] When you get hit by a virus, you become “Infected” & you can see your level of infection on the top right of the screen & it’s indicated by a skull. If the skull becomes completely red, you die. You can cure yourself by searching for antidotes & consuming them. It usually takes a few seconds for you to die after getting infected. [*] The bathroom is rich in resources. You can find spray bottles & a ♥♥♥♥ tonne of antidotes there. Oh, and everything gets replenished when the game enters the next phase. You don’t need to worry about running out of resources. [*] I don’t know why we are made to clean a Sofa & drink a cup of potato juice. It’s just too random & weird lol. [/list] [h2] Visuals & Audio [/h2] I was astonished when I saw the graphics of the game. Everything looks so good. It’s not realistic, obviously, but the visuals fit the humorous gameplay. The only bug I encountered was the viruses clipping through walls. An uneasy moment is when you look into the mirror & don’t see a reflection of yourself. They could’ve added a character model to the player. The dialogues were amazing. Although I was forced to read the subtitles since everything was in Russian, it was still pretty amusing. The voice acting was pretty dope! No complaints in this segment. [h1]Pros[/h1] [list] [*] A rib-tickling gameplay experience. [*] Storyline is so random & weirdly entertaining. [*] The gameplay mechanics are surprisingly smooth. [*] The dialogues in Russian were pretty fun to hear. I loved the overall Russian theme the game had. [/list] [h1]Cons[/h1] [list] [*] Very short gameplay length. You can finish it in 30ish minutes. The only replayability value the game has is to get the Steam Achievements for it. [*] The game has a few bugs & glitches, nothing game-breaking though! [/list] [h1]Conclusion[/h1] This game caught me off-guard. I didn’t expect it to be this fun. The price tag is perfect too. At least these indie developers weren’t greedy to extract a lot of money from us for a game that is 30 minutes long. I recommend buying the game at the full price to support the developers!
