Into the Metaverse is a Virtual Reality Theme Park Ride experience about humanity's quest for ever deeper immersion, showing scenes from the past, present and future. 32 scenes total of which 8 are available in this 10 minute polished and very immersive "DEMO". If you love dark rides like some of the greats from today and the past such as Horizons, World of Motion, The Haunted Mansion, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Spaceship Earth, The Amazing Spider-Man, Journey into Imagination, Adventure Thru Inner Space and so many more, you will be pleasantly surprised how much of that experience can be had in Virtual Reality now. The Future of Virtual Theme Parks starts here.
Experienced on the Oculus Quest 2
This is a nice, free experience. I'm not sure I would pay for it though. You basically go on a 10 minute long, slow rollercoaster ride while you learn about the history of information. The experience has a low polygon art style. The graphics aren't great, but they're not bad either. There is a voiced narrator that I believe is a computer generated voice. However, the lines are well-written and it's a nice sounding robot voice. I guess I just wasn't impressed with the information. It's very basic information about the past. It feels like they skipped several important steps in the evolution of art / writing / information. Game is running on the Unity Engine. It ran fine on my RTX 3080. I did not experience any issues or bugs. However, you are given instructions on how to recenter your view and it's basically just a how to do it from Steam VR in general. This information is inaccurate for the Oculus Quest (you have to go to the Oculus system information to reset view). In any event, for free, this is a nice experience for any history fan or rollercoaster fan (although it is a very slow ride). The visuals are just nice enough, it's well-narrated, & it's free. However, I would expect a lot more for a paid experience and I don't mean just more scenes. I expect higher quality scenes and more high-quality information provided about the subject matter. "Into the Metaverse Theme Park Dark Ride Experience" is a non-interactive slow ride tour through the ages that I can only guess ends with us inventing VR technology. I say that I can only guess because this free version is only 8 out of the 32 scenes planned. Sure, it might be only 8 scenes, but I have to say they are all well animated and filled with interesting facts about that time period. Also, there are hidden symbols all around that encourage you to look at the full scene which I thought was a nice touch. Sure, there isn't a whole lot here, the graphics are a little basic and the narrator's voice needs improving. But I for one will be looking forward to the full ride tour.
This ride is the future of VR! There aren't many VR rides out there, and this shows just how good they can be. Gone are the days of traveling and waiting in crowded lines. I can travel from the comfort of my own home where I can adjust the volume and get off the ride any time I want. I look forward to riding more of these in the future!
Into the Metaverse Theme Park Ride Experience is an Early Access free VR experience. It worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. Currently, has a very slow Epcot like ride with 10 minutes of documentary. Non-interactive slow ride tour through the ages that currently is only 8 out of the 32 scenes planned, for the Into the Metaverse ride. The narrator is English but sounded artificial. The lobby looked nice and had space for a few more rides. Warning; might cause motion sickness. Try it, if you want but there is very little content right now.
I can’t imagine a better thing to put first-time VR users in to blow them away. This dark ride looked so crisp and believable I felt as though I could climb out of my cart and have a look around. And I’ve been a regular VR user for 5 years. The tale it tells about the origin of storytelling is also excellent. The only thing I would have liked is an option to pause the ride to soak up the atmosphere. Maybe that's not possible due to the character animations. Can’t wait to experience the full thing when it drops.
Note: mostly experienced via Quest 2 standalone. This was very cool! It reminded me of the Spaceship Earth ride at Epcot. This was a good way to reconnect with that experience. And in many ways it is actually better. The part with Shakespeare was amazing! The ride is already a great length, and it is only act 1 of 3 so far. Loved all of the little touches like the security cams :) I've ridden this more than a dozen times so far, it is so relaxing.
I was really surprised by this one. I get the low poly style the metaverse is going for but this felt lazy and kind of hallow. Still excited to see what metaverse will bring to the game world but I promise you that if this is a demostration, I will not be purchasing any games from this dev. Sorry Immersive Matthew.
