Poor optimisation fried my computer. Gave me motion sickness too!
KOSTENLOS
----------------------------------- I recognize that this is a game made by students and also free, but compared to another project by students from the same college (ARID) this game suffered a lot in terms of quality, perhaps some things can still be fixed, such as Steam achievements no longer working. works or the game doesn't have any system so you can leave and continue playing later, However, one thing that I don't think they're going to fix and it's the game's worst flaw for me is the gameplay, a 3D platform game has to have very responsive controls and work well, here I think everything is almost good, but not good enough. enough to make it worth spending an hour playing. I hope they fix what they can in this game and have success in the future guys, it's not the worst game of its kind I've ever played, with a little more care it would be a good game to sell.
Beautiful platformer with zero bugs. Breda University and SMU projects are by far my favorites. Everything about this game is great. I did 100% in about 1.5 hours but for some reason 40 minutes or so isn't uploaded to Steam cloud. Art, control, mechanics, fun... All departments nailed it. Well done guys and I hope you all get to work in great projects. I will definitely play this later in the future again. I love platformers with vibrant and chill environment with great music and ambience in the background. Far better than demonic nintendo's mustache guy imo.
"Viking Hiking" is a student project that has been published on Steam Direct. It's from Breda University of Applied Science in Europe. This is an academic exercise, not a professional game. While it has more quality than most amateur games, it is not a complete gaming experience. Student projects have limited value for gamers because they're not fully developed games, just barely functional demos that show the students progress. Steam is not a place for for-profit colleges to dump student homework assignments... and having thousands of these is not good for gamers. The students made what could easily be mistaken for a real game... an admittedly charming looking third person platformer designed for consoles and published on Steam where you guide a big viking dude around various rocky platformer challenges. Unfortunately, like all student projects, it's a bit of a rug pull, it's not a complete game, it's short, and it just teases what might have been but never will be. The other issue here is that like many student projects, it's papier mache, the back of it is chicken wire and string... no optimisation or robustness, it runs like it's running through a vat of molasses, runs your GPU up to 100% and delivers far fewer frames per second than gamers deserve. And of course, as a student project, these problems will never be fixed... the students got their grades and walked away. The graphics in this game are really quite good, which at least makes the game look more appealing. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. It would be unethical for students to try charge money for their homework assignments, so you don't have to pay any money for this. But you'd still have to spend your time downloading this, and "time is money", as they say. There's the other problem, too... as a student project, this wasn't made for gamers. There's no requirement for them to polish and balance the game properly, all they need is something to show the faculty so they can get their grade and move on. Let's once more ask... why is that good for gamers? It's obviously not delivering a solid product. Yet here it is, on the store page, and here you are, reading my review for a student demo that's going to waste your time. While genuine amateur developers who made real products get ignored because they have to compete with this stuff. In some ways, this deluge of student projects on Steam is harmful to everyone. You can always judge a game by how popular it is with the general public. Steam has over 130 million unique gamers, and over 40 million unique logons every day from dedicated PC gamers. But this only ever had a peak player count of a dozen or so people... that's very poor public reception. Gamers rejected this, most likely due to the reasons I supply in this review. This student project/tech demo/glorified homework assignment provides no Steam profile benefits, no +1 to your game count, and little value to gamers (because it's just a small, unpolished student project), so I can't recommend this over the thousands of full, professionally made games on Steam. At the end of the day, my reviews are intended to help gamers find quality and avoid the dregs (with over 140,000 games on Steam... not all of them are masterpieces). If you think my review is wrong, definitely add this to your library, download it and play it... it's surely exactly the kind of game you'll love (but I doubt it will work out that way). Game reviews are for gamers to share their thoughts and help others choose where to spend valuable time. If my review helps you to grab or reject this game, then my job is done.
Enjoy playing this game. Great art style, easy mechanic, good map, nice animation, satisfying sound effect but not with the music background. Overall its a good game if u have 1-2 hour free time and dont know what to do.
