Collect crystals and help some folk while munching on invested creatures to get their ability and become stronger yourself! No missable achievements and takes around 5h to complete. Unobtainable/glitched achievements: No I had a lovely afternoon with Monch! Exploring this open world and collecting all kinds of stuff while finding all the secrets just felt so good. Time flew by without me even noticing, as there was always something to do or work toward. In Monch! You play as a slime kinda creature that isn't afflicted by the corruption that is going on. You can eat the crystals and the infected creatures without any adverse effects... even better, if you eat the infected creatures, you gain their abilities. That way, you get the ability to jump, glide, roll, and blow wind, and use those abilities to get further and solve puzzles. There are four zones in the game; in each zone, you find one of each creature to improve your abilities. So with the first creature that gives you the jump ability, you gain the jump ability, but the second gives you double jump, and the third gives you triple jump, etc. Each ability gets stronger that way. Finding the creatures isn't too challenging, as there are purple tentacle/bone-like things coming from the area they are in, so look for those to gain their abilities. Most of the crystals are also relatively easy to find. However, if you're struggling with finding the last few, each elder of their zone can give you a hint where to find another crystal for 10 of the small currencies that can be found in their zone. And this isn't the only quality of life feature, as you also quickly unlock the warp ability as soon as you reach the area of an elder. Another thing that I really love is that there is no fall damage or damage in any way. It is just a relaxing game in which you explore the world and find all the secrets. I'm happy that for the achievements, you don't need to find the lore items or small collectibles. Those last ones are only used to get hints for the crystals, but you don't need them to unlock any of the achievements. The lore items are optional as well. If you want to go nuts and still find them all, you can, and the game will tell you on the pause screen how many you're missing in each area. None of the achievements are missable, and completion takes around 5 hours without a guide. You receive achievements for unlocking all the abilities, getting the abilities to max level, completing quests you receive during the game, and for finding all the crystals in each zone. You can go through the ending and still get back into your save afterwards. I give Monch! 4 out of 5 stars.
Do you enjoy games that don't have missable achievements? Very cozy game with a perfectly sized world. I grew up playing collectathon platformers like Banjo-Kazooie and Spyro, and this feels like a very chill, modern take on those. I especially like that your abilities level up—it adds a nice sense of progression and keeps things fresh. Something about the controls, simple as they are, feels really satisfying. I was able to seamlessly switch between keyboard/mouse and controller without any issues. It plays especially well on a controller! If you're looking for a bite-sized game with laid-back vibes—something to chill out to... this is it.
Not a bad game. I knew going in that this was likely from a new/small dev team and I didn't have unrealistic expectations. I was actually a bit surprised by a few things. You actually learn new abilities and upgrade them. This is something that is sadly missing from many other 3D platformers. The world is actually quite large with a surprising amount of depth and different regions. You need to explore some areas carefully to find some hidden collectibles. Otherwise, don't expect a lot of variety with the puzzles and expect a little bit of jank with the platforming. For example, you can use some walls to reset your glide meter. Not bad for a quick play though if you like the genre.
Super petit jeu, très détendant. La petite ambiance mignonne est bien supportée par la musique, et si les énigmes vous feront pas vraiment travailler le cerveau elles sont parfaites pour se vider la tête et juste s'amuser.
Cute and cozy little collectathon game that was very nice and relaxing! Appreciated the feeling of progression as you went along monching stuff. Definitely recommend if you wanna just turn your brain off for a bit and relax for a while.
Loved Monch!! Very cute and charming little Monchling is such a fun character to play as (the monching sound was my personal favourite). Visually the game was incredibly aesthetically pleasing and the gameplay itself was fun and relaxing without being boring, and the puzzles are clever and interesting. Very beginner-friendly and low stress. Overall cosy and fun experience, would recommend!!
The land has been infected by strange purple 'stuff'. Oh noes! Fortunately, you have just hatched: a Monchling, a formless blog who monches the stuff and thus gains abilities which allow you to move around the land and monch even more stuff, saving people as you go. A cute platformer-style puzzle game, where your character's solution is to eat the purple stuff, you travel around and try to find out what has happened when the land has been infected before, assisting the elders in the four regions. Search for and collect the purple crystals, and meet various critters as you go. My favourite NPC so far is the one who has made up a song about rolling in the sand to the tune of 'Row, Row, Row Your Boat'. Or possibly the one who tries to nickname you 'Monchurian Candidate'. I prefer 'Monch Ado About Nothing', thank you very much.
Very enjoyable cozy game to play after a day of work. Big fan of the exploration and abilities in the cute world of Monch :)
The Good: This is a fun open world 3d platformer with lots of exploration, fun collectibles, and satisfying puzzles scattered all over the game world. The ability upgrades are fun to acquire and make your character stronger. The art style is colorful and nice to look at. The Not-so Good: A little bit of jank. A few times I got stuck in the terrain and couldn't move, but doesn't hurt the fun experience of this game. Overall, this is a brilliant 3d platformer that is satisfying to 100% complete. I got it on sale, but it is absolutely worth the full $10 price as well. I recommend, and it is worth getting in 2026 and beyond.
Just from getting through the majority of the first zone, it is easy to see that this game is fairly chill (especially since people seem to cheer you on to "Monch" down on anyone infected). Having the option to roll around and glide relatively soon gives you just enough movement options to feel like you can handle getting anywhere you'll need to by the end of the game. While I was hoping for a few more transformative effects from the Monching, what is there gives the perfect moveset for traversing this world comfortably. Hopefully more people in search of a casual exploration game find there way to this one.
