Vholume is a meditative and surreal experience that emphasizes momentum while simultaneously surrounding the player with compelling visuals that enticed me to stop and breath in the atmosphere. Its gameplay consists of fast, floaty parkour which at terminal velocity finds a player practically bouncing around the map. Controls are intuitive and it will not be long before one can speed through its levels. There is not a glut of mechanics, you will mostly be jumping, sliding, and wall running as need be. It is a testament to the strength of the level design that these three simple mechanics can carry such an exhilarating gameplay loop. The genius of this game, however, is in its tone which is simply magnetic. Its soundtrack is dreamily contemplative and its approach to the design of its architecture and npcs is superb. I found myself often leaving the beaten path simply because I wanted to fully explore every corner of each map. For a game that wants you to speed run it, I could not spend enough time making my way towards the finish line. Unfortunately, the game punctuates its levels by stopping gameplay to show you your time and ranking. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed working my way towards gold medaling the levels, but it is immersion breaking to have my flow state constantly interrupted when all I wanted to do was get lost in the games exemplary landscapes. Vholume’s most interesting levels take place in Potemkin cities that evoke a depressing feeling of solitude. There was a civilization here, it’s gone now. What few characters you do meet are as outlandish as their surroundings. They will share some words with you but will not converse or answer questions you may have. There will occasionally reference a ministry that may have at one point been of some importance, but it seems more a figment of the past than an active force within the game. Rather than fill itself with exposition and plot, Vholume correctly concerns itself with cultivating a particular vibe and in doing so succeeds wildly in creating a world full of mystery that is utterly enrapturing to inhabit. There are abundant secrets and the developers have a clear interest in opening up pathways to community designed levels so that the game can have a life beyond their influence. I look forward to periodically returning to this game just to dip back into its unique world. Vholume is clearly a passion project from a small team with an outsized creative ability, their singularity of vision and dedication to cultivating a particular kind of serene, contemplative tone has created a work that speaks volumes.

The game is pretty and all, but this is the worst I've felt speedrunning in a movement based type of game since garbage like Klei's Hot Lava. If you play through the levels slowly this might be passable if you really liked Babdi and Straftat. The meditative part is strong with this one. By this point the devs could've improved the dialogue and story of their games, instead of just pulling off random vibes. NPCs just toss random flavor text at you and it doesn't pay off looking for them other than wasting your time getting the achievement. All the cool looking design npcs are out in the open anyway. The parkour is too basic, you just bunnyhop while crouched, wallrun to gain height, and quake-type zigzag to gain speed, you can crawl any wall slowly while just jumping off of it while going forward, or you can circle the same wall and eventually climb it that way as well. The game is too barebones to invest into the speedrunning aspect that this title heavily implies. The top scorers use double wall boosts to break the levels. That's it, there is no other mechanic. The bonus levels are mostly godawfull chinese CrossFire platforming instead of cool stuff like real Source game type surfing. There were some levels that reminded me of early cs:source jumping servers where the light wasn't properly baked yet because of lazy kids making the maps. The speedrunning aspect conflicts too much with the serene atmosphere this game has, and actually running, ruins the game too much for me. Should've been another open adventure game instead, with optional speedrunning for mentally ill.
10/10 game 10/10 music 10/10 devs listening to the community 10/10 atmosphere

My megastructure brutalist fetish is having a full-blown orgasm with this it's actually life changing btw
Игра 10 из 10 Механика безупречна, классная механика с топом, вы видите, на какое время прошли карту ваши друзья, также игра онлайн и уровни можно проходить с друзьями, очень понравилось, рекомендую.
More people need to play this. Everything hits for me: the movement, the aesthetic, the music- really, really good. I thought I'd pick it up for a few hours and then forget about it, but from the first level, I got hooked and ended up getting gold on every map. Even now, I don't think I'll be done since I haven't even dived into the community maps yet. Absolute gem.
ALL MY HOMIES LOVE BRUTALIST ART DESIGN
Vholume is what I imagined would happen if you combined Half Life 2 and Mirror's Edge. The brutalist architecture coupled with the simple yet fluid movement system makes Vholume truly a one of a kind experience. Going through the stages in the game gives you a feeling of melancholic serenity of a world that once was. I was initially satisfied with clearing the game with silver times on all stages but because I didn't want to let go of the game just yet, I eventually went back and got the gold times for the stages as well as clearing the B-side stages (Kreedz stage was annoying). Some of the gold times are definitely hard but not impossible as long as you're willing to learn the movement techniques and run it multiple times. Mastering the movement and overcoming the times set by the developers was certainly an accomplishing feeling. Whether you are looking for a game to casually parkour through its stages or a pro looking to challenge the top times, Vholume definitely fits both bills. Highly recommended!
